Re: [(After)Life: Nel & Mars]
Nel looked up as the door opened.
She'd seen Mars before, during that Christmas vigil at the girl's side. Nel was rather a lot older than other things that came to claim souls, and she'd informed all gathered that this one was hers to take, and only when she felt it was time to do so. It was one of the benefits of her station, and no one had challenged her for it. As much as the christian deity believed itself ruler supreme, it was hardly the case. There were much older, much stronger creators in the universe and in history, and there were many more worshipers than one would believe possible. This girl, with her red hair and Lear's devotion, belonged to Nel now. No one would challenge her here.
But to return to the point, Nel had seen Margot before. She'd been quite surprised that this sickly slip of a girl had caught and held her brother's oft wandering attention, and she'd found herself quite interested as to why. It was sheer luck that Christmas had led them here, where she could benefit twice by the girl's presence; Nel truly did require an assistant, and her curiosity would be sated.
"Margot, is it? Do come in," she said, putting her magazine aside and standing to motion the girl toward the couch adjacent. "I hope you'd no trouble finding me. I'm Nel, though I rather suspect that an unnecessary clarification."
