Re: Hannah & Jeremiah; Jester's Court
He watched her with unspeakable fondness as she said this and he shook his head at her as she spoke, and he said what he knew to be true: "Sometimes the handsome prince needs a girl to save him." And perhaps that was the truth of any relationship that mattered. You saved each other, over and over, back and forth, over again. And each could stand alone, but each protected the other over and over again. And sometimes it was very specific and intentional and sometimes it just happened, because you were there, and you could be a hero for the other person.
He followed after her, watching her as she climbed, eyes ahead of her for any possible danger she might not see, even if this seemed unlikely in their kingdom tonight. Her smile had the same effect it always had on him, and he simply wanted to see it directed at him again.
Jeremiah would have her back always, which was maybe different than being saved by anyway. It was saving yourself, with back-up and someone to keep safe the things you couldn't immediately see or reach. And Hannah might look like someone who needed to be saved by, but Jeremiah was certain she was not. Not really, and so he wasn't even worried as she climbed up and as he followed her towards the top.
"What do you see?" he asked, as he stepped up onto the top step behind her. There were windows near, and she was closer to looking out of them than he was. And as he stepped up behind her, he whispered in her ear. "We could get you a sword, Princess Hannah."
