Re: Hannah & Jeremiah; Jester's Court
Hannah didn't like religion. She'd looked and looked and tried to find something she believed in, but she found that most religion was based on lies. Or, if not lies, then it was something that required pretending her not to believe in true things. Religion and science never seemed to go together, and Hannah was much too aware of what life really was to believe blindly. Blame her circuitry, but she didn't believe that anyone went anywhere when they died, and she was sadly absolutely certain about that. She saw ghosts, and she still believed it. She knew things were haunted, and she still believed there wasn't anything good that came after.
"It's normal for us to want to be liked," she said reassuringly, and she understood. Especially recently, when her interactions with new people hadn't been going really well, she understood. "I think it clouds our judgement a little bit, and I bet in Hollywood it's even more and more and more." She thought it seemed like maybe being liked was everything ever in Hollywood.
She looked down at the weave-cling of their fingers, and she thought about going up, up and coming down, down. "I'm not sure we always need to come down, but I think life has a lot of messy to it. We expect good. Books and stories and television, they make us expect more good than bad, and I don't think life is really like that. There's both, and maybe not even in equal measure." Another squeeze, and she wondered who the dead person was, but she waited for him to finish, to tell his tale of arriving in Repose, and the first thing she did was shake her head. "I don't hate you. I couldn't hate you. And, Jeremiah, whoever he killed? Those were his feelings. Okay, maybe the drugs and drink helped, but he had to already feel those things, right? Was it a stranger? was it someone he knew?" She was putting together a puzzle, slipping pieces in with the satisfaction of feeling them click, and the wheel kept turning and turning.
"You're hiding here," she finally added, soft on the night breeze.
