Re: Hannah & Jeremiah; Jester's Court
Maybe Hannah should've thought of the police. Maybe she should've been scared. Maybe, maybe, maybe, but she wasn't scared at all. Blame it on the fact that she'd never stayed in trouble with the police, even when she'd been arrested, and she knew she was much too valuable to be allowed to languish behind bars. She wasn't worried for him, either, because she'd make sure he was okay. No matter what happened, what they saw, what they didn't see, it didn't matter. She would make sure he was okay. See, mostly people thought Hannah had to be protected from the bad things, but it was really the other way around.
And she wanted his companionship. It was true that she thought the adventure would be better if it was shared. For someone who claimed to not connect well, Hannah did like people, certain people, around her. She liked him, and she liked him being here, and she tugged on his fingers and walked, walked, walked back. She smiled, knowing he would stop her from hitting anything that she couldn't see, and she guided him blindly toward the park's defunct entrance.
She laughed when he stepped twice and and wrapped his arms around her. The sound was like bells on the wind, happy and loud, and she threw her arms over his shoulders and kissed his browbone. "I think I'd like to dance with ghosts," she told him, fearless, and she looked behind herself when his attention strayed to the dark and foreboding castle. She slipped her arms from their perch on his shoulder, and she tucked her hand back into his as he sang. He sounded amazing, and she didn't want to move. Almost, almost, and she watched his lips as the song faded, and then she picked up the tune and hummed it. She wasn't a really good singer, but she could hum just fine, and the sound was pretty softness on the dark air.
"Close your eyes," she said, and then she tugged him again, the song leading them both as she stepped beneath the arch that allowed them inside.
Once there, once just past the arch, she closed her eyes. And she was waiting, waiting, waiting. She listened, and she thought she could smell sugary peanuts combining with the cotton candy. She stopped humming and, with closed eyes, she turned her face toward his. "What do you think we'll see, Prince Charming?" she asked.
