Driving: Marta and Travis
[Marta didn't have that much experience with cars. Sure, she'd hitched rides before and bummed them from people when she was still in school. She remembered the fuck-me lines of expensive metal that Seven had owned, and the solid SUV that Tommy had chauffeured her around town in. But mostly these days she just walked around Repose or took the bus into the city. The car that pulled up was loud and mismatched, and she didn't really mind it, if she was being honest. So much of her life already felt mismatched, that one more thing wasn't going to tip the scales. Especially not when climbing in meant something that would give her mind something to focus on besides the ways her mind kept shoving thoughts into her mind that wouldn't do her a lick of good to acknowledge.
Working for Derek had at least started to give Marta a sense of style again. When she was off the clock, she didn't wear anything like the beautiful pieces of clothing the other woman had purchased for her, but she'd begun to move away from the layers of oversized shirts and low-end thrift. Or, more accurately, she'd begun to put together actual outfits from the inexpensive pieces. So when she got the text from Travis and let herself out the front door of the house, she was wearing something comfortable and easy, pairing it with chunky mittens and a little bag she could shove her phone and a few dollars into.
If she'd had a different upbringing, or watched more high school type movies, the entire situation would feel like getting picked up for a date by the bad boy in school - beat-up car, slipping out of the house with no introductions made to disapproving parents. But instead, it was just a welcome escape from too-quiet rooms, climbing into a car with someone who might just understand how the quiet could be a dangerous thing.]
Hey. [The door was opened and her bag dropped into the passenger-side footwell before she greeted him, and then she was climbing in, a flurry of fraying sweater and slim limbs. The door required a little extra tub to close again with a satisfying slam, and when she turned back, left ankle tucking up behind her right knee, she gave Travis a little smile.]
