"I must. I must go back to him," Ragnar agreed. If he had dreamt of Athelstan this time he could do it again. "I will not stop thinking of you. You must know that. I will love you, always." He didn't know if he'd told Athelstan that enough when they had been together.
There was an ache in his chest at that request. Ragnar had waited. He would continue to wait. His hands tried to grip onto the other man, even as everything felt as though it were falling away from him.
"Athelstan," he said the name once more before he found himself sitting bolt upright in bed. With a hasty hand he wiped his cheeks. His puppy slept on the floor beside the bed, and without hesitation Ragnar scooped him up, letting him settle in the covers. "I will tell you a story, little one. I shall tell you of someone very special-"
