Re: The forest: Derek F/Ragnar L
"The years have changed, and we must change with them," she said quietly, for it was true, no matter how much they might miss the old ways. The hunts, the raids, the sacrifices at Uppsala, a life that was simpler and harder too.
She glanced at him, at the lowered spear, and saw the doubt even as he spoke the words. He knew what she meant, of that there was no doubt, and she smiled when he asked who. That was an answer she wouldn't give -- he'd have it when they appeared. "You'll know soon enough. And I know you have not, but you will be tempted, and I want you to remain true." Especially with this one, but she would say no more of them.
Instead she reached out, and even here the air around her seemed brighter as she cupped the side of his face. "To you," she confirmed and stepped close to kiss his forehead. "We have heard you. I cannot undo what has been levied upon you, but this -- this can be done. It will be soon."
Derek stepped back, smiling fondly at him as she edged the cart to the right. "Not much further now."
