Town at Night: Gabriel & Archie
Who: Gabriel & Archie
What: An encounter in town
Where: Various town locations
When: Recently - late at night
Warnings/Rating: TBD
With a new town came new scents and sounds, and it was in Gabriel's very nature to explore his surroundings in order to obtain a base line with which to compare to in the future. It was late at night when this was accomplished, for it was much easier to explore undetected than during the daylight hours. (And it was a myth, at least for him, that he could not be out during the day. He was somewhat sensitive to the sun, but nothing that couldn't be remedied with long sleeves and long pants.)
Town was on the schedule for that night, each street wandered, nostrils flaring at the multitude of scents that were borne on the wind. He could hear the slow-beating hearts of those sleeping in their houses, apartments, and other dwellings. The sweet, sour smell of garbage waiting to be picked up, the musk of wild animals on the prowl. It all mixed into a unique scent that would become recognizable as the scent of Repose. Changes would be easy to tell, then, and that was the entire purpose of the exercise.
But there were other scents in the air, scents beyond the normal humans that he was used to being around. Other supernatural creatures, and none of the ones that he knew personally. In the back of his throat, the quiet of growls rumbled, a predator on the alert, tensions high. There was no immediate threat, Gabriel was civilized enough to know that, but it had been some time since he had been in such an unfamiliar place, and some instincts were quite difficult to tamp down.
Steps carried him past different buildings, and it was outside the B&B that he caught another scent in the air. Something more familiar to him. Another vampire. But again, there was no need to investigate further just then. It was remembered to visit again later, to discover those that were like him.
