Re: [Orchard: Bea & Holly]
It was a betrayal, certainly. It was the secret, the darkness of it, the idea that Holly's fulfillment came from slavering strangers, that he would share what was supposed to have been theirs with so many, and not tell her about it. That he would expose, in every sense of the word, their marriage to that. Bea did not think herself a violent person, but if she could murder that decision, she would have. With a kitchen knife.
Bea's expression went tense and sour. She did think he was insane. Well, not insane. "Insane" was a kind of Looney Tunes word, describing cartoon mice that talked with a lisp. Holly had serious psychological problems, so bad that he couldn't or wouldn't acknowledge them. "The military only does stuff to protect itself. They don't care about you and your head, I don't care what the commercials say. Holly, you don't just go out into the woods and become a different person. Please see someone." She reached out to try to touch his hand, careful not to be grabby about it.
Why, why she cared about stupid Holly being crazy and back from the dead, she didn't know. Or stupid Noah. She scowled. "He asked me not to tell anyone. I won't." She looked away from him. "I don't know what to tell them."
