Re: [Orchard: Bea & Holly]
Not many people had known Holly toward the end of his life. Or... or at the end. Last end. Whatever. It was totally in character for him to have a complete mental break and divorce himself from the shit he had done, just to deal with it. It was not in character to apologize for it later. It immediately made her soften. Those kinds of feelings, Bea found, did not entirely go away just because the person you love broke your heart. They just took a different form, something shadowy and needle-y, that crept up on you when you least expected it.
Finally, with all of the not-people she could see moving in a stream, she gave up and moved in his direction, back in the direction of the train tracks and out of the dense cluster of far-reaching apple trees. "See, these missing memory things, I'm pretty sure that's part of this whole thing," she said, suddenly feeling urgent that she convince him. "You need a doctor."
She frowned at him, expertly-painted lips not made for the expression. "Nobody's called me. Nobody said anything. I mean the military people." Her eyes grew a little distant. "The people who know we're married, you mean, and see you with Noah? What am I supposed to tell them?"
