Re: log: louis & ren - diner
Ren would certainly prefer to think of himself as a benefactor rather than a dictator, although he wasn't certain he had any right to. With his family history, he was liable to utterly and completely make a mess of power were he given it in any context other than perhaps directing a play. That seemed a manageable amount of power to have. He answered Louis correction with a light laugh, but the smile slid into something more serious, echoing Louis's mood.
"It's fine, it's better in person, I think," Ren told him, even as he pulled in a breath, and with it emotions that threatened to wander off on their own.
Perhaps he'd been preparing himself for something like this since Louis had mentioned it. Rarely did it feel as if any talk about a relationship went well. Largely Ren was grateful if they managed to keep from diving into yelling. But Louis didn't seem like the type to yell, and certainly not in a restaurant, so that left Ren, his fingers tightening around his own coffee mug, until the pads of his fingertips seemed white. He purposefully let go of the cup, and breathed out.
He opened his mouth, started to say something, and then glanced downward into the coffee mug for a beat, his brows furrowing together. He raised his gaze back to Louis, and when he spoke, it was a completely different tact. "Is this because of her? Or - What happened at the park? Or something I said about it?"
