Kratos looked at Rae as if she might have misheard or misunderstood something he had said--not that he had said very much at all. His inked eye went slightly wide as he opened it to peer at her slightly closer, and his scarred one thinned.
He switched to be sure there was no mistake. "Of course she chose. It was her wish." There was a hint of something in this last statement, a slight taste of concern, or disapproval, or regret. Kratos had not been in agreement with his wife about her wish for children. It had taken convincing. His mouth twitched down, then up. "She was most... persuasive."
He drank. "He goes to school." This was not what she meant. He ignored that meaning, supplied his own, and drank again.
