Re: Bookstore: Caleb R/Dietre A
Dietre didn’t laugh, but he smiled. A real smile. It lasted just a moment, though the warmth of it lingered about his eyes afterward, brightening the perpetual gloom that usually haunted them. “No, it is a favorite of mine too. I can most definitely play it for you.” There was a reason the Moonlight Sonata was one of the most famous piano pieces in history. No need to be embarrassed. It was beautiful. It was moving. The somber tone spoke to Dietre in particular, all of his favorites were of a similar melancholy vein.
“...Do you like Chopin otherwise? I’m quite fond of his work.” Chopin was one of Dietre’s favorite composers, actually, and he tried to hide his disappointment over Caleb not liking Nocturne. He understood about wanting to avoid bad memories, however. He had plenty of bad memories he’d prefer not to think about. As for Rhapsody in Blue, he nodded thoughtfully. “I’ve heard it, but I am not sure that I’ve ever played it…” Another glance toward Caleb, less shy now, talking about music was easy. “I’ll learn it for you.” That was a promise he knew he could keep.
“I like Franz Liszt. Liebestraum is nice to play.” That subtle accent of Dietre’s came out fully as he said the German title. ‘Lovedream.’ Being drawn to what meant something to him… Was it too obvious he dreamed of love? He hoped suddenly that Caleb wouldn’t know the translation of the title, and blushing slightly Dietre stumbled forward with the conversation.
“I’d like to see your photographs. If-- Maybe you could bring some…?” Was it bad to keep talking about their next meeting rather than focusing on the here and now? It was hard not to. Knowing there would be a next time gave Dietre a stupidly hopeful kind of feeling.
