Today was just what Sadie needed and she'd been aware of it as soon as she'd pulled herself out of bed in the morning. Going back to Kentucky had been an ill thought-out plan and, good as the trip had been, Sadie had felt the cut of that double edged knife. The questions the trip had raised, the guilt it had stirred in her and the awareness it had awoken, she tried to see them as positives. They were a chance to look at herself, as she'd always been encouraged to do, and to learn where she could stand to change and grow. For certain, some of what had come up in travels with Leena stood squarely in the realm of the unknown. However, if there was one thing that didn't? It was what she'd done to her family. Sadie had walked out on one family, selfishly thinking it was better, and had let them slip through her fingers as a result. That was not going to be a mistake she made twice in her life โ and absolutely not when she had the feeling the one she'd adopted now could use an extra helping of her love. It was why the night before had seen her prepping everything she'd need for the day. She'd gone to pick up a few things, vegetables and some sausages, and mashed potatoes to make Boxty.. She figured it would work well with whatever they decided to get up to grilling and her cast iron pan could see the job done over an open flame just the same as it could on the range. The outfit she'd picked had been laid out, and she'd even put fresh strings on the violin before packing everything up in her, olive drab, travel bag so it could all be carried easily to where she was going. Sadie wasn't going to leave anything to chance on her end and any risk of a sideways turn was accounted for, right down to making sure she had the cash to cover the lift out to the lake house. Any shade, any cloud, that might have been hanging about over her was forcibly shut away. It would be there for another day, no mistaking that, but if there was one thing that could see Sadie put away even the slightest bit of unpleasant thinking? Well, it was being there for the people who mattered more to her than she might ever rightly put to words. So it was that, as she came stepping out of the lift, she wore that smile that could crack the whole world in two. So it was that the music came back to her step, even as the heavy bag was shifted under her shoulder so she might wave while her other hand carried the violin case. "'Lo!" Bright and chipper was the voice, easily to recognize and carrying more warmth than the last days of summer. That set the tone and her feet followed, a steady rhythm that bordered on the best jog she could muster, as she closed the distance with a clear and easy excitement that seemed as natural on her as that violin did in her hand. "Hope you lot brought your appetites!" |
