Derek and Marta Who: Derek and Marta What: A new hire Where: Live and Breathe When: Current, after Marta is released Warnings/Rating: Low probably
The only thing she had been told by the County was to expect her new employee bright and early on Monday morning. As all of her mornings were bright, Derek had been fine with this, even as they continued to list off expections -- that Marta had to come in every day for work, that she needed to call if Marta didn't, blah blah blah. It was a lot of the latter bit, a lot of human law and Rules and Regulations that she didn't care for because they made no sense. Of course Marta would come to work every day, Derek was going to make sure of that, but she wasn't going to turn around and report her if something went awry.
Awry had to be counted on. Still, she liked her rituals, and this morning when she stopped to get her Cinnamon Dolce Latte, she picked up a second coffee (black) with sugar and cream on the side so Marta could doctor as she wanted to.
Her coffee was half finished by the time she unlocked the door of Live and Breathe and the interior lights buzzed to life. Her strappy heels clacked across the floor as she went to greet the hanging plants above the actual bar area and get the oxygen started for the day. If all went well -- and all was going to go well -- she'd stay here with Marta and show her everything, then tomorrow she'd be on her own. Regardless of what the man on the phone had said, Derek was not demoting her down to Receptionist. She needed a manager, and now she'd found one.
Setting both drinks and supplies down on the podium, she sat primly on the edge of the stool there and waited. Maybe this weekend she'd go out hiking, watch as the trees were getting ready to turn colors -- sleep in on Saturday. Soon enough it would be winter, and while not her favorite, she could still enjoy it. A cabin would be nice this winter, maybe a little skiing. Or, ooh, snowboarding. Yes.
