rp: brigitte and nickolas.
Who: Brigitte Dunstan and Nickolas Derrick
What: A rainy day in London spoils everything
Where: First downtown London, but then back at the Derrick Manor
When: After lunch on Wednesday
Rating: Somewhat high. They're going to get drunk. (It'll be Brig's first drunk experience!)
Status: Started!

To say that Brigitte was nervous about her fitting for her dress for the engagement announcement gala was definitely an understatement. She hadn't been nervous until Nickolas said that he wanted to come with.. and then requested to have lunch and a day out with her. Brigitte still found herself nervous around the Derrick heir. She had only moved into his manor about a month ago, and she hadn't rarely ever spoken to him before then. Needless to say, this would be their first big outing, if it could be called that. It would be the first time they had been seen in public.. and the first time Nickolas would hear her measurements. Brigitte found herself so fearful of the outing, she had barely managed to get any sleep the night before.

The morning was stiff. Brigitte couldn't manage to eat anything at breakfast. She didn't trust her stomach to keep anything down. The fitting went fine. Brigitte jumped at every unusual sound, and cowered at everything said to her. It wasn't that she was always so submissive, but she just didn't know what to expect or how Nickolas was going to act. She didn't know anything about him or his family. A very large part of her just wanted to go back home to Scotland, especially the Isle of Skye. Merlin, how she missed the Dunstan Castle. Nevertheless, the fitting went fine. Nickolas' plans for an afternoon out in London were dampened by the London rain that had set in. By the time the two were done with their double fitting appointment, the rain had turned into a thunderstorm.

Once out of the seamstress' shoppe, Brigitte shivered against the cold, winter rain. She hadn't worn enough layers to be walking outside- let alone in the rain. Not to mention that rain didn't make for the best outing weather. She turned to Nickolas for the first time the entire day. "Did you still want to.. spend the afternoon here, sir?" she inquired. It took a lot for Brigitte to pipe up like that. She shivered once more and wrapped her arms around her tiny frame. She hated London for its weather alone.

Nickolas had been a bit nervous himself. He wasn't sure exactly why he wanted to get out, but he knew he needed to. After his antics at Blaise's party, he felt the need to validate himself more than he had already. It was strange for him to be attracted to males let alone actually act on those feelings. He figured this would be a way to show even himself that he was still the man he felt he always was.

After the fitting he noticed the rain. It put a complete damper on any plans he had made. It was a cold rain. He disliked rain above any other weather and decided it would be best to go to a pub to warm his lady up. "No, I think it may be best for us to get a warm up and then we'll head back to the manor," Nickolas said with a slight disapproval in his voice. It had nothing to do with her, but he knew neither of them could wander around in the cold wetness, and he really had wanted to get out today.

Nick lead her to the Leaky and ordered a few Firewhiskey's. It was about the only alcohol he enjoyed and he figured it'd warm them both up enough to be able to face the growing thunderstorm that was brewing outside.

Brigitte couldn't help but notice the tone of Nickolas' voice when he spoke. She shuttered a bit, half because of that disapproving tone she assumed was towards her piping up, and half because she was freezing cold in the stupid black dress she had deemed appropriate for a day out. Stiletto heels clomped over the cobblestone walkway as Brigitte allowed her fiance to lead her. Her bare legs had very visible goosebumps on them. She was frozen.

Once at the Leaky Cauldron, Brigitte still remained quiet. After receiving such a disapproving tone the last time she spoke up, she did not plan on doing that again. How many times had her father told her not to speak until spoken to? It was very sixteenth century, but it was the way she was raised.

Brigitte watched as the two glasses of firewhiskey were placed on their table. She blinked at the dark liquor almost questioningly. Brigitte, though almost twenty-two, had never been drunk. In fact, the only types of alcohol she had been exposed to were wines and champagnes. She had never been curious about liquor either. But she couldn't not drink the drink Nickolas ordered her, right? Brigitte raised the glass to her lips and took a tiny sip before coughing and choking on it. It was so bitter, and it burned her throat! Her cheeks flushed bright red. "Sorry, sir," Brigitte muttered between chokes. The drink was simply awful.

It was hard for him to actually show anything towards the girl, he really just didn't know her. He was afraid to let himself get close in case she may not like him, but he felt horrible about ordering her such a potent drink. Deciding to throw caution to the wind, even if a little bit, "I'm sorry. I need to get you something a bit less potent. I really should think more. Please, call me Nick from now on. I don't think sir exactly suits me."

It made Nick a little unnerved to see a woman of her standing calling any man sir, and he didn't exactly know how to react. His grandmother never told him to expect this, and it was just not something he was going to get used to. This girl wasn't beneath him by any means. Woman or no, he didn't see any reason to shun her in anyway.

"And please, don't be sorry. I really must think a bit more before I order you such things. It was my fault and I appologize to you. Please forgive me for my carelessness, my Lady," Nick said with a smile and he ordered her a butterbeer. He also ordered some wine to have back at the manor to warm them up after they were out in the weather once again.

It was hard for Brigitte to imagine being anything but severely submissive to the dominate male in a household. It was the way she was required to treat her father, and also how she saw her mother treat her father. It was a casting system that Brigitte was raised in, and it didn't help that she didn't have much confidence in herself.

"Please," Brigitte begged, making sure to keep her eyes and voice low. She hadn't even properly looked at Nick's face. She probably couldn't even tell you what colour his eyes were, for she never looked at them. "Do not apologise." Her cheeks were still beet red. Why was he saying sorry? He had provided her with a drink she could not drink. That was her problem, not his.

For a brief moment, Brigitte's eyes flashed up, but only to Nick's chest. She couldn't raise her eyes fully towards his face. "Of course, Mr. Nickolas," she replied very softly. She was always soft-spoken around males. She could be loud and outgoing around her best girl mates, but never around men. "I do apologise, sir." Brigitte's cheeks flashed bright red again. "I mean Mr. Nickolas."

Nick felt slightly overwhelmed by how this woman was acting. It was hard for him to imagine her being told she had to refer to people this way. He wasn't a mister yet. He was still young and so was she. So why had someone done this to her? "Please, no Mister or Sir for me. I'm not that much older than you, not to mention we are to be married. Nick or Nickolas really is okay for me. Actually, I'd rather you call me that."

He walked to the bar again and grabbed the white wine and red just incase she perfered the other. Nick was going to do his best to please her. It wasn't a matter of just spoiling her, but he didn't want her to have a horrible time being with him. He wasn't raised in a way to treat women like they were nothing. That wasn't his nature.

"And it is my fault for ordering you a potent drink. Please, just accept my appology so we can head back to the manor," Nick had a slight urgency in his words. He didn't want things to be like this forever, and he planned on helping her open up to be a woman and not a meak little girl.

Brigitte simply was never put in the situation to not act the way she was. True, she went to Hogwarts, but she was so meek and young then that she mainly stuck around the girls. The majority of her time was spent alone studying. The only reason she got away with it was because she was a Ravenclaw. "Are.. are you certain?" she asked hesitantly. She had never called upon anyone without a formal title.

Brigitte's head raised slightly when Nickolas walked away towards the bar. He was intriguing her with the things he was saying. A part of her wanted to know what he looked like. Of course she had seen photographs, but she hadn't actually seen his face for herself in person. When he turned to return to the table, her head immediately lowered. That was what she was supposed to do, right?

The urgency in his tone made Brigitte think he had a meeting or someplace important to be. She had no idea he had every intension of spending the rest of the afternoon and evening with her. Brigitte had big plans. She would owl her mother.. update her journal.. perhaps read a little bit- all in her private chambers, of course. Brigitte offered her hand to Nickolas. "If there is someplace you must be, then I shall not keep you," she replied very, very softly. Who was she to say anything on the contrary to what he wanted? She never liked the Leaky Cauldron anyways. Brigitte rose slowly. As awful as it sounded, she almost felt a bit lightheaded from the sole sip of firewhiskey.

Nick had been on his own for so long, he apparently needed to learn how to speak better to people he was going to be around. He always had trouble saying the right things mostly because he just never did. He said whatever came to him without a second thought as to what needed to be said. This girl obviously wasn't someone who he could do that with. At least not yet.

"I don't have anywhere else to be, actually. I just wanted to take you out on the town, but with this weather, you're likely to catch your death. And we just can't have that," Nickolas smiled as warmly as he could muster. It was hard for him, real emotion was something he hadn't dealt with in quite some time. In his mind, he realized it was best to begin now, especially with a marriage just around the corner.

"And of course I'm sure. I don't want you to feel you are below me. You are not below me by any means. Please, be formal with me. Don't treat me like I'm some kind of prince or anything or the sort because I'm not," he took her hand before continuing, "I don't want you to feel that you are supposed to do whatever I wish for you to do. It is up to you to actually know what you want. I won't be the type of man that will only take you in if you are to be my slave. I don't think of you that way. And don't think of yourself that way, either. Shall we go, then?"

Brigitte tilted her head slightly, still not quite looking at Nickolas at all. That might take time- or a lot of alcohol. She couldn't just change her ways at the drop of a pin. She had acted like this for twenty-one, nearly twenty-two years of her life. That doesn't change overnight.

"Oh," Brigitte replied as her brows knitted together. She couldn't understand that. He just.. wanted to spend the day with her? That seemed so weird. "Are.. really?" She frowned, lifting her face as much as it had ever been. It wasn't enough to see her full face, but more than ever before. "The day with me?" Brigitte's head lowered. No one had ever wanted to take her out like that before.

"Nickolas, then," she replied softly. "But I might slip every now and then." She felt like the warning was quite fair, but added a "sorry" in there just in case. It was at least good to know where Nickolas stood on how he viewed his wife, even if Brigitte didn't respond to that. Instead of responding, Brigitte offered her arm. She found any excuse not to speak.

Nick understood changing ways. He had trouble doing that himself so if things were to be different, he'd have to try too. And he already was trying. Although Nick wasn't the type of person who got close to anyone, he felt like this arrangement could turn out much better than he had once assumed. He only knew how it'd look for him when he agreed, but now he knew it could be much better and he and the girl both could learn something from each other.

"Yes, I really want to spend the day with you. We don't really know each other. And I think we should begin to. How can a couple be wed if they know nothing of each other?" Nickolas said this and began to think on it instantly. It made him feel a bit wary of the situation. It would be difficult for the both of them if they didn't know each other. And he knew he needed to open up just as much as she did for it to work.

Nick pulled out one of his wizard cigarettes and offered one to Brig, "I'm not sure if you smoke or not. You don't have to or anything, I'm just making sure to be polite," he said before he picked back up on what he was saying before, "I understand things were different where you grew up. But I really would rather you treat me as a husband figure and not someone who's better than you." Nick walked with her arm in his outside until they reached a place that was safe to apparate, taking them back to the gates of his manor. Once there, he lit his cigarette and puffed out slowly before walking.

Brigitte realised she was going to really have to put forth effort. Nickolas seemed as if he was trying. Well, he was at least trying to engage her in conversation and trying to do things for her. She appreciated it, even if it wasn't spoken. He remembered her and tried to include her, and that counted for something in Brigitte's opinion.

"We have to fulfill our family's obligations," Brigitte commented softly. "It is not a matter of knowing, loving or liking. Our families betrothed us, and we have to be married to please our elders." She shrugged a single shoulder. "Having a comfortable or cordial living environment is extra." It was apparent that Brigitte expected the worst in all situations.

Brigitte shook her head at the offer to a fag. She didn't smoke, and she didn't like the smell of smoke. A cigar once in a blue moon was alright in her book, but fags were grotesque in her opinions. Upon arriving at the Manor, Brigitte fell out of step and trailed behind Nickolas. "I.. I don't like the smell," she called out once a large distance between the two had been established. "I'm sorry, sir. Erm.. Mister.. erm.. Nickolas." Brigitte frowned at herself. She wanted to disappear.

Nickolas couldn't believe the way her mind worked. It bothered him to think that a person could really do this to her. He'd never been the type of person to actually believe in pleasing others much. He was always worried about keeping himself happy at any cost. It was hard for him to think that someone thought that it was only a matter of what others expected from them. Noone ever had any expectations of him, so thats probably where his reluctance to please stemmed from.

"I suppose you're right in a way. But I do feel that we can have alot better of a relationship with each other none the less. Let's just try all of this out and see if it works. If it doesn't we can go back to the way things were," It was the best way to put anything in his mind. He figured he may as well speak to her about things rather than just ignoring how she may feel.

These cigarettes smelled vaguely of maple and he enjoyed their smell. Though other smoke made him sick to even consider. "I must say, I do agree. These ones smell alright, though. I'll be sure to only do it away from you if it bothers you, though," Nick smiled and walked backwards to be sure to be nearer to her, "I'm sorry, I'm just not used to walking with someone. I will try and think a bit more from now on. Please tell me if something I do bothers you, alright?" Nick meant it more than he could vocalize, but he didn't know any other way to say it.

For all of Brigitte's life, she had lived to please other people, and tried to jump through others' hoops. In fact, she was born a disadvantage. She was a girl, not a boy.. and that already deterred her family from liking her all that much. It was what Brigitte was used to: not being good enough ever. She molded herself into what others' thought she should be. It the way her life worked.

Brigitte nodded at the suggestion. What she wanted most in the world was to be in a loving relationship, completely with a loving family (and even a dog to complete the perfect picture). It was also the last thing Brigitte thought she would ever get. "Alright," she replied softly. She felt as if she needed to say something.

It wasn't the cigarette Brigitte didn't like, it was the smoke. No matter what smoke flavour it was, she hated it. "I.. I'd appreciate that," Brigitte replied softly, but with a bit of a hidden smile. "I am used to cigar smoke. I don't mind cigar smoke." She chewed at her lip. "I did not want to be around the fag's smoke," she explained. It was the most she had talked to him all day. "I assure you there is nothing.." But Brigitte stopped herself and nodded. "Alright."

Nick was feeling as though things were slowly progressing and that made him feel good about himself. He really would try to be sure that the girl was rather happy with her life with him, even if it meant she had to be something she'd never been before. He didn't enjoy people being whatever he wanted unless he was looking for that. He liked women who posed some sort of challenge for him, and he sensed that in this situation, which made it all the better in his mind.

Nick lifted his wand and placed it to the fag in his hand. It made the smoke stop coming out unless he exhaled, and that would make it alot less annoying with the smoke, "I only smoke cigars when I'm around a group of people. Is this a little better for you? I charmed it so that it only releases smoke when I exhale. That should be a bit easier for you to take," Nick smiled and took her hand in his again.

"Is there anything you would you like me to get for you? I know it sound may sound shallow, but I want you to have things you don't already have. And I'd like to know if there is anything so that I can make you feel more at ease," Nick had no idea what any woman really wanted besides a shag when he offered. He never got to know women other than that, and he felt like this was his chance to make up for alot of the things he'd done to women in the past that he wasn't proud of.
