It's hard to live in the city.
Characters; Abra Dunstan and Dalan Williams.
Date/Time; During the winter break. Very late at night.
Where; Everywhere, London.
Warnings; PG-13.
Status;Incomplete.

The downtown lights were beckoning, and Abra certainly wasn’t going to ignore them. She had been in the house nearly all break with her father catching up, and she hadn’t been out for what seemed like years. She missed the night, the lights, the people, and with Dalan’s sudden cry for some form of excitement, it was the perfect opportunity. If only Abra could remember where her drinking partner lived, and she’d be all set. She was close, she knew that for sure, judging on cluster of houses that were bigger than ten of her apartments, and all pure-blood families had distinctive qualities that separated them from the rest of the pack, so finding the Williams house surely wouldn’t be that hard.

Abra, who had no patience whatsoever, had no time for guessing games. She wanted to get wasted, and she wanted to get wasted now. Picking out a house that she was sure someone like Dalan would live in, she lifted a few pebbles and tossed them at one of the second story windows. She hoped she had the right one.

Dalan was not happy at this very moment. He hadn't really been since he'd been home. He should have been happy, what with no classes and the like, but he wasn't. Possibly, it was because he was basically barricaded in his house like a common criminal. It was completely unfair! How had Dalan Williams dealt with this injustice? By sulking in his room, of course.

It was lucky, actually, for he wouldn't have heard the sound of rocks on glass if he hadn't been sitting near his open window. Out of pure curiosity he looked out at a most unusual site. He leaned out the window to be sure of what he was seeing. "Abra Dunstan, why are you trying to disturb my parents at such a late hour?" What was it, one am? Felt pretty late, at least.

Abra put her hands on her hips and pouted in mock hurt. "I traveled so far to get here darling, I mean, I almost died, and all you have to say to me is that i'm disturbing your parents?"

She shakes her head dissaprovingly. "Oh darling, it's only ten till one. I thought you wanted to escape? Come now, sweetie, throw down your long hair, we have a city to roam."

Dalan grinned down at her. Of course she would risk her life to see him. He was just that amazing, such a risk was necessary. "You almost died? That is a story you will have to share." Eventually. For now, there were more important matters at hand.

How was he supposed to get out? He had remembered a joke about tying his sheets but seriously, they would not hold when it came to climbing down. "Hold on, let me go freshen up." He ducked out of the window and back into his room to find more... appropriate clothing. He moved oh so stealthily through his house and emerged from the front door. His parents were too asleep to notice anything, anyways.

"So love, where's the party?"

"It was a thrilling story, really. It involves a high-speed car chase and a dog with rabies. Highly entertaining, I promise you." To be perfectly honest, there really was a crazy dog. Of course, it was very small and behind a fence, but that certainly isn't the point.

Abra waited outside Dalan's window, half-expecting him to throw out tied together sheets, but alas; he came out the front door, and she couldn't help be heave a dissapointed sigh.

"Darling, you should know there's never just a party. There are multiple parties, of which we'll go in, get a bit smashed, then leave and go on to the next one where we'll get even more hammered and maybe snog for a bit with a complete stranger." She looked at him as if it was common sense. To Abra, it kind of was.

"Yes I know that." Okay, maybe he didn't, but Dalan was willing to go along with Abra's plan anyways because it sounded alright with him. "I was merely asking where the first one was, because we should really get going. There is partying time we are missing right this minute!" The night was only so long.

So with the notion that they should really get a move on, Dalan threw an arm around his friend's shoulders and started walking down the street. No, he had no idea where he was going. There had to be a party around here... somewhere. His neighborhood was not completely boring. "But if you didn't have one in mind, I guess I'll just have to show you to one."

"Also, I brought pre-drinks." It was at this moment that Dalan produced a handy flask. From his pocket, that is. He wasn't that good at magic yet.

Abra rolls her eyes. "Dalan, parties don't start unless we are there. that's just how it is." Atleast, that's how it was at Hogwarts. Downtown partying was a completely different matter, yet Abra wasn't nervous in the slightest.

"Of course I know where a good party is, I haven't come unprepared. There's this apartment complex a few miles from here that is like, party central." She pauses, looking around at Dalan's high-class neighborhood. She gives him a nudge with her elbow in his side, teasing, "That is, if you don't mind slumming a bit."

Abra nearly giggles with delight at the mention of pre-drinks. "Oh Dalan darling, you are too amazing. I would kiss you right now if I wasn't so hell-bent on getting a drink first."

"I know, it's true." Dalan grinned. The party really started when he arrived. "I don't know what people do without us. Sit around and look at their shoes?" Must be awful boring.

At the mention of his neighborhood (which he, to be honest, thought looked like most others), Dalan adopted an extra haughty demeanor. "Perhaps I may allow myself to be convinced to grace the common people with my presence," he said, before sticking his tongue out in a very immature fashion. No, Dalan could not act posh for very long.

Dalan smirked and offered her the drink. "Well you get to the drinking, and we'll work our way back to the kiss." His intentions were not all that innocent at this point. It wasn't his fault, she had brought it up!

"Probably. Too bad for them, I suppose." Abra grins back, punching him lightly in the shoulder as they grew farther and farther away from the neighborhood.

"Oh, but you must let them atleast gaze upon your handsome face," She says with a slightly sarcastic tone in her voice, and she can't help but laugh when the ever-so-charming Dalan Williams sticks out his tounge.

Abra takes the flask and takes a gracious swig. She swallows, wincing only slightly as the bitter alcohol went down her throat. "That's our agreement, we drink and then we kiss." She certainly didn't mind.

Dalan, had he noticed any sarcasm in her voice, would have probably ignored it. "But they can't look me in the eye, of course. We can't have the peasants walking around thinking they're equal." He didn't know why he was continuing with this train of thought. It was kind of funny, though. "Merlin, Abra, what would you do without me teaching you how to be properly posh?" Probably get along just fine, but that was besides the point.

Dalan grabbed the flask from Abra (after she had properly finished her drink, that is) and took a swig of his own. He didn't notice the taste of the alcohol, or at least pretended not to. He was mostly used to it by now. "There's the drinks, and now..." He trailed off, tapping his cheek.

"Oh, of course not. that would just be prepostrous," Abra says, and shakes her head and tosses her hair in a snooty, high-class way to match her falsely prim voice. She looks at Dalan and sticks out her tounge, mimicking him from earlier. "Oh, I simply don't know darling. I am so glad you have taught me well."

Abra liked a man (or boy, Abra wasn't really sure what to consider him)who could take a swig without flinching. When he tapped his cheek she obliged, giving a quick and almost teasing peck.

"I can't give you everything now, darling, then you'll get uninterested, and that would be jsut dreadful."

Dalan really could not keep a straight face after that. He burst out laughing in an entirely low-class manner. "Indeed I have, now I can allow you out in public." He grinned and ruffled her hair a bit. A bit, as in not enough to actually make it look bad. That would be just cruel.

That kiss was just unfair. It was like... a kiss one would give a baby. He most certainly was not a baby! "Abra, love, I would never tire of you. But as long as you are promising more to come, I will just have to content myself with that." For now.

"So, which apartment are we looking for again?"

Abra ducks out from Dalan's hair-ruffling, checking it despite knowing that he was careful enough not to mess it up. "Merlin Dalan, you sound like I'm a dog." She mimes patting a dog on the head, " 'Good job, girl, way to go!' " She laughs and tries to imagine Dalan with a dog. The image doesn't compute.

She smiles coyly, running her fingers along his jawline teasingly. "Trust me, darling, there will be much more to come, considering how much you plan on giving me to drink." Abra eyes the flask eagerly.

"The one with the lights that nearly blind you and the peopel falling all over themselves, of course." The said apartment becomes mroe noticable as they draw closer to the complex. "The entire complex is a party, really. I've been here once before, with some guy I can't remember the name of. In fact, all I really can remember is that it was a bloody brilliant party."

Dalan smiled, unsure for a moment if Abra was kidding or not. Then she laughed, and he was pretty sure it was okay to laugh as well. The thought of him treating her like a dog was pretty... ridiculous. "You, love, are nothing like a dog."

His mind wandered at her touch, mostly to thoughts of completely ditching the party and wandering back home. He quickly snapped back to reality, which was that Abra was rather adamant about getting to party, and it wasn't going to change. "You act like I am taking advantage of you," he followed her eyes to his flask and offered it to her again. "When really, this is all your doing. I think it's your grand plan to seduce me."

He grinned as the lights became more visible and the music louder. Being cooped up in his house had made him pretty anxious for something like this. "We'll just take your spotty memory as a good sign."

Abra looks over at Dalan slyly, putting her hands on her hips and pouting a little. "Oh, then what am I?"

Feeling satisfied with her teasing for now, Abra takes the flask from Dalan with a sly wink and takes a long sip. "Oh darling, it seems you've figured me out. I'm sure you won't mind too much, though." She hands him the flask, letting her fingers brush against his hand with a smirk on her face.

The neon lights are visible now, and the noise of the music and trashed party-goers is louder than ever. Abra bounces excitedly, tugging on Dalan's arm like a child. "You aren't going to believe this, honestly, this is one of the best parties ever."

Uh oh. This was a difficult question. By that, he meant that there was an answer Dalan was supposed to give, and one he wasn't. One that would land him in trouble, and one that wouldn't. Hmm. "The most beautiful girl I know," he said, feigning nonchalance with a grin. Brilliant.

He watched her hand for a moment before sliding the flask back into his back pocket. Probably not the smartest place to put it, but it could always be replaced. "Bloody tease." He muttered, not really caring if she heard or not.

Dalan followed Abra's lead, partly because she had a hold on him that he couldn't get away from, and partly because he had no idea where to go if she wasn't leading him. Well, he had the general direction of the music and lights to go by. "You better live up to these expectations or I am going to be mighty disappointed," he said, allowing himself to be all but dragged to the complex. He knew they were getting close when a drunk girl stumbled passed them, crying about some bloke named Steve.
