Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

WHO : Luna Lovegood and Rolf Scamander
WHAT : Aftermath of the attack on the Ministry
WHERE : Rolf's home
WHEN : Early morning April 12th.
STATUS : Complete.
RATING :  PG (at the most)

One of the witches running by the blonde had nearly stepped on her in the woman's confusion. Relief filled her when Rolf appeared out of the chaotic crowd, coming for her. Luna's fingers had knotted themselves in the fabric of his shirt, as Rolf's arm went around her. His side-along apparation had felt more painful than she thought it ought to have had. His attention was no doubt skewed by the calamity that had been going on around them. The piercing shrieks still rang in her ears when they appeared in a room she did not recognize.

For several moments she just focused on smoothing her breath out until it was less choppy and more even. The pain in her shoulder was bad, but she had felt worse, all though the Crucio had been entirely bloodless while this was not. Even the slightest movement in the joint send arrows of agony through her small frame, her other arm came up to hold it in place to stop the movement entirely.

"Mostly whole," she responded to his frantic question. "Although this wound is rather aggravating." She glared slightly at the bleeding hole in her robe and shoulder. As if she could make the bullet lodged there feel ashamed of itself. A cursory examination over him revealed that he too was injured, making the blonde frown. "Your leg's hurt as well. Will you be okay?" For someone who disliked violence, she had seen far too much of it in her short lifetime, a fact that did not go over her head. "We should tend to these..." she tilted her head at her shoulder and his leg, both of her arms busy at the moment. "Before they get infected, or lose too much blood."

Rolf breathed a sigh of relief at the way she answered. She was in her right mind, thus there was no magical enhancement on these bullets. He should've figured, since he was only feeling the pain of a muggle gunshot and nothing more. When she moved and hissed in pain he felt his heart thud wildly in response. She was in a worse condition than he, and thank god Rolf had training in healing animals shot by muggle weapons.

"I'm fine. You're worse off, love. Lay still for me? I have to numb your pain sensors and get the bullet out before I can give you potions to heal that. The potions I need are at my office, darling. I have to apparate there. It'll only be a moment." As if on cue, a tiny black short hair slinked through the cracked open door and mewed at her owner. The cat padded over to the bed, jumped up, and then carefully curled it's self against Luna's side.

"Bagehra," he smiled gently and scratched the cat's ears. "Watch her for me." The cat mewed and then Rolf stepped backward, cringing in pain from the move, and apparated to his office. Five minutes later he was popping back into existence with a bag of potions. "Just tilt your head back and try to sit up for me, love. I need you to take this. It's going to numb your shoulder and start the healing. It won't set in for another two minutes, but it will make it all better very soon." If not make her loopy as hell, but it was important that she took them.

Rolf stooped low beside her and helped lift her up so that she could take the vial of teal potions. When it was all said and done, he'd have to accio the bullet out.

Not even having been aware of her hiss of pain until it echoed in her ears, Luna kept her wide eyes on Rolf. But while her eyes were boring into his, her focus was on the wound in her shoulder, attempting to feel how much damage had been done to it. Something metal was inside, she could feel that, and had obviously ripped open veins to make her bleed. But by the slow rate of blood flow that began to coat her fingers, it had not damaged any arteries. She was not positive, however, that the object had missed her shoulder bone.

So preoccupied by her analysis of her injury, she did not even feel Rolf moving her off of the floor and onto the bed. Luna had just nodded at his statement when the oh so small cat hopped up beside her, lying against her injured side protectively. Her fingers found their way into the soft black fur, and she stroked the feline slowly as Rolf popped away.

The minutes in his absence passed slowly, with Luna just focusing on the cat she was petting rather than her injury. She hated to be alone while injured, even if it was not a mortal wound. It brought back less than pleasant memories of the Malfoys' Dungeon. Of being waiting below while the sounds of her fellow prisoners being Crucioed for entertainment sounded around her.

His return was met with relief. And when he produced a vial of potion for her to drink, she was glad of his help in sitting up. Gulping the contents of the vial down in one swig, she wrinkled her nose at the taste. "Ick."

"You might feel this, darling," Rolf reached up to drag his fingers through her hair before he tucked a few loose strands behind her ear. Then he lowered that hand and pressed against her good shoulder so she wouldn't move. He aimed his wand at the shoulder in question and very quietly spoke the spell. "Accio bullet."

The metal pieces ripped out the way they came, causing a minor bit of more damage in the process. Rolf dropped his wand and caught the small bits as they flew out. They were covered in blood and hot in his hand. "Merlin's beard," he murmured. Bagehra lifted her head to watch Rolf inspect the bullet remains, then, deciding it wasn't worth her interest she lowered her head again.

The bullet was disposed in the empty vial that held that teal potion and it was placed on the bedside table. "All right, I've got to see if the bone is broken. You might need some skelegrow and then we'll wrap that up for you. See? It.. it was nothing. All better." He put on a wide smile for her as he felt around the curve of her delicate shoulder. It felt lumpy and the flesh was swelling already. It wasn't a sure bet that something was fractured, but there was a good chance of a near fracture. Skelegrow wasn't going to hurt.

Rolf leaned back on his haunches and dragged his bag closer to find the proper potion. It was more disgusting than the teal but she didn't have to take it all. "Just a sip. It isn't much." He helped her sip at it like before and only when all was said and done, only when he could be sure she was going to be fine, did he glance at his leg.

His trousers were blood soaked. "Bother. My favorite pair."

Closing her eyes at his touch, focusing on his hand rather than on her shoulder, Luna took a deep breath. One of her hands came to rest on her leg, fisting itself in her robe, the knuckles of her hand turning white. Her other hand was on the back of Bagehra, and she had to focus on not clamping down on the poor beast. She doubted the cat would enjoy being squeezed half to death.

She cried out when the bullet came flying back out, sending shards of pain outward in its wake. Her breaths coming in gasps, she spent the few moments he used to look over the metal pieces just trying to return her breathing to a more natural level. Calming her heartbeat back down with focused meditative breathing and thought. Things she had learned about in the last several years, when she had needed something to help her banish her nightmares back to the dark.

At the clinking sound of the metal bits hitting the bottom of the glass vial, she opened her eyes again, looking up at him. At his somewhat stuttered statement Luna nodded decisively, taking a quick peek at her shoulder. "Not half as bad as the Slicing Curse," she agreed. "And almost nothing compared to a Crucio." She was just talking trying to keep her mind off of the spike of pain the removal of bullet had created. And of the hiss that escaped her as he felt her shoulder, doing her best not to flinch away.

The first potion had been disgusting, the second was horrific, she nearly spat it out. Instead, she dutifully swallowed the foul fluid. Once he pulled the vial away, she pulled herself up so that she was sitting, cradling her healing shoulder. Luna's wide eyes followed his gaze to his leg, and made a face at the blood she saw there. "We have to fix that Rolf, pants can always be replaced. You cannot."

"Simple, really," he muttered with a forced smile. It hurt like hell and it was going to hurt worse when he fixed it. He didn't want Luna watching, so Rolf did the right thing in pushing himself up on one foot and hobbling away toward his wash closet. "It'll be fine. I'll get it healed up in no time."

Within five minutes he was sitting on his toilet with no pants on and a wand jabbing at his entry wound. Rolf bit his lip hard to keep from making any noise that would worry Luna. This was even more difficult to manage when he whispered the spell that brought the bullet bits out of his leg. Blood stained his porcelain seat, his tiles, and his socks, but at least he was free of that ruddy metal. He had to swig back the same nasty potions Luna had to take and then wrap his leg up nice before he felt it was okay to relax his shoulders and take a breather.

The breather was only a half-minute pause between the wrapping of his leg and the magical cleansing of his bathroom. He peeled off his socks and disposed of them and the pants in a rubbish bin before hobbling back into his room. Wordlessly he crawled onto the other side of the bed and with only a small grunt of an ache he laid out in just a white button up and boxers beside Luna.

"Well," he mused. "That wasn't very fun."

Luna did not believe Rolf. She would have liked to, to be able to think that he was unable to be truly hurt badly, or that everything was right with the world not that he had healed her shoulder. But, as she had learned in her sixth year, the world was not as lovely a place as she had always believed. It just made her so tired sometimes. Mad her wish she could go back to the days where the worst thing in the world were people who insulted her father's magazine without even trying to read it.

While he was gone she decided to struggle her way out of her robe, gritting her teeth from letting any residual pain from her movements make her cry out. Once it was off, she panted in relief, dropping it to the side. Luna barely noticed the cat shooting her a peevish look before hopping off the bed again, as she kicked off her shoes.

Smiling slightly at Rolf's return, and subsequent plopping down beside her, if only because it meant that Rolf was with her again. She turned onto her side, to lay her head on his shoulder, and put her arm across his stomach. Needing the comfort of being beside him, assuring herself that they were both going to be okay.

"No, not very."

"You'll feel it soon," he murmured. "Pretty concentrated." His words already felt thick on his tongue. This was the effect he wanted, something that was going to numb him to the throbbing ache in leg. Merlin, he loved magic sometimes. "It's just enough.. to.." He paused when he felt her head on his shoulder and he lowered his hand to cup her cheek. "I might be in love with you," he stated quietly.

It wasn't the drugs that had him saying it either. It was more that he had thought for a moment she'd catch a bullet fatally and Rolf knew he couldn't live without the blonde in his life. She was in it so suddenly and he prayed she'd never leave it. Rolf dipped his head low and kissed her forehead softly. "It's scary, to be in love. Scarier to see your love nearly... you can't leave me just yet, Luna. We've got a lot of things to do, you and I."

She nodded, the feeling of loopiness already taking over, her mind feeling all fuzzy. Like three week old kittens just toweled dried after a bath, she yawned lightly, tiredness weighing her down. Luna leaned into his hand when it caressed her cheek, moving just enough so that she could look up to meet his eyes.

His admission made her smile softly, making a slight 'mmm' sound. "That struck by lightning feeling," she agreed, not sure if she was making all that much sense anymore. "Mum said I'd feel it when I met the one for me. Happened in your office." She closed her eyes when the barely there kiss was placed on her skin. "I don't want to leave Rolf."

That was how she fell asleep, content.
