Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Michael Corner, his two guest stars and Laura Madley
What: Out in Diagon Alley doing a little bit of shopping.
Where: Diagon.
When: Afternoon times
Rating: Likely not to get above a PG-13?

This was going to be so much easier in about another year...

Though Michael was in a fairly good mood and had wanted to do this. Even if some of his good mood was from knowing his ex-girlfriend was having issues with the wonderboy. Yes, Michael Corner was still a little bit of a bitter individual, but it was that sort of thing that made life a little more fun to deal with. His good mood today though had mostly to do with the 3'7" redhead staying close to him and her 9 month old brother who was getting carried by the floppy-haired hitwizard today. Not having anything else to carry the small boy only gave him one arm at a time to function with, but it was still easier to get around without the baby buggy or the rucksack thing, which he did actually have, but it seemed like more a problem than a solution. Plus he already had one with supplies for the two of them as well as purchases from the Magical Menagerie for Mittens and Gloves. The cats still needed food occasionally and he was there anyhow.

Sammy was looking at everything in the window anyhow while Bri had her hands behind her back to hold back the want to just touch the glass to point at things in the Quidditch store. They were both very well behaved, but then it helped when you offered they ice cream for good behaviour. Otherwise it would just be back to Uncle Michael's little flat to play until their mum came to pick them up. Though Michael would likely insist more on naptimes than playing too much.

Still, it was nice just to spend an afternoon out with his two favourite kids.

Hannah told her it was going to rain, told her, "Golly, Laura, my crystal ball is going nuts about rain! Make sure you take an umbrella or something before you go." Hannah was Laura's personal weather witch. While there were days that she was wrong, the majority of the time.. Hannah ended up being right and thus, Laura took her advice and upon leaving The Leaky Cauldron she charmed her wand to push out a small umbrella.

So far it was all sunshine and most of the folks walking up and down Diagon Alley gave Laura Madley the strangest of stares for her peculiar behavior. It took only thirty minutes of parading about with an umbrella before Laura's confidence shriveled away into nothing. She uncharmed the wand and stuffed it moodily into the pocket of her yellow skirt just as she caught sight of a window display of freshly customized brooms in Quality Quidditch Supplies. There was already a man and his two children there, but Laura paid them no mind when she came to stand beside them to stare into the window.

"I wonder if Terry is in," she mused to herself.

Brianna was looking amazed up at the broomsticks. She had asked for one for her last birthday, but no one seemed actually willing to get her one. Then she really wanted a racing broom to learn how to play Quidditch, and no one seemed to think it was proper for a five year old to have a broom when it would be another seven years before she could even take a broom to Hogwarts. They had reasons, but that didn't mean she wanted to listen to them.

She moved closer to Michael though when Laura came over, causing him to look up and over. "Well I'm sure he is. Unless dear Terry's not working today, which is also a possibility." As long as they were talking about the same Terry at least, which seemed likely.

Laura arched one eyebrow and nodded her head at the Wizard standing next to her. "You know him too?" He seemed to be someone Laura ought to have known, in the very least someone she once helped heal. It was entirely possible that he was a patient that passed through the hospital but he just seemed much to familiar. She ended up squinting and giving him a strange look to decipher how she knew him by reading his face.

The eyes were lovely, and that hair was to die for, but was he some random bloke or someone she.. oh Helga! "Michael Corner!" The name sounded like a mix of an exclamation and a gasp. It was both, really. Laura was surprised to see him and quite excited about the whole prospect in general. She'd hadn't seen him in a while and oh HELGA. HE HAD CHILDRENS.

"Are these guys yours?? Oh, how cute!"

"I ought to. Spent seven years in a dorm with him." Seven very long years of being bad influences upon each other. Though it was hard to say who had been the most changed after all that time. He just shrugged it off and smiled a bit more when she recognized him.

"Ah... Unfortunately not. My niece and nephew." Phillip and Charlotte had both been just two years under Michael, though he was far too shy to be quite as notable other than the other half of the Corner brothers. And yet he was the married one and Michael was still very much single. "Brianna. Say hullo." Unfortunately her name was slipping his mind at the moment, and it was easier to just pass it on to the younger one possibly procure it. The small redhead curtsied a bit, smiling a bit.

Oh, it was maddeningly adorable! The girl curtsied and Laura clapped her hands together before doing the same and dragging the hem of her skirt out a bit in the process. "How do you do?" Her name was not mentioned for Laura lacked a mind that could keep on track with things. Instead of doing the proper thing she launched into a strange little ramble about hair. "You have such a beautiful head of hair, you know it must run in the Corner family or something because your Uncle has a fantastic head of hair himself and we always said he was most beautiful of the Ravenclaws, though his hair was never able to compare to the gorgeous mop of Draco Malfoy. Mm, now that was some lovely genes he inherited. OH. I'm sorry! I'm Laura, did I say how do you do? I'm sure I did."

She felt winded after her little ramble and her cheeks grew red, red, red. "I don't think Terry is in," she admitted, "because he'd be out here already, talking more than me."

Brianna giggled a bit, cover her mouth to keep from doing it too much. Especially once Laura started talking about hair, especially when it involved her Uncle Michael and someone else she had never really heard of. Michael was also blushing just a bit, at least trying to fake modesty. He rearranged the small boy and changed arms around. It could get a little bit heavy just carrying him around! "You diiiiid. But I'm good," replied Brianna. "You, Miss Laura?"

"Ra ra!" Sammy replied, making Michael grin a bit. Plus he had her name now, so all the better. "Close enough. This is Samuel, though we're still just calling him Sammy." He blew the young boy's light brown hair back, making him giggle. "Probably for the best. It's hard to say what Sammy might try to grab of his." Terry didn't strike him as much of a kid person. Especially those that needed diaper changes and the like. "We were heading down the way a bit more if you wanted to come along?"

Laura was happy for the conversation, though it came in a pint size sort of way. She leaned down a bit to look Brianna in the eye, her smile only uncurling wider. "I am the bees knees! I thought it was going to rain, but it's not! Isn't that lovely?" Not to mention she was getting an eyeful of Most Beautiful Ravenclaw three year running! Laura was going to flip on Hannah later!

"Hm? Oh, yes. Terry is very grab-able, what with his loops and hooks and.. whatsits." Tight bum, mmm, very good for grabbing! Laura took a moment to savor a memory of Terry's bum before returning back to earth. "Ah, let me ask you something, Mister Michael Corner." She lowered her voice and covered her mouth with a hand so he could read her lips. "Can they, uh, have I-C-E C-R-E-A-M? Hm?" She certainly could and she certainly wanted some, now that it came to mind.

The small girl looked a bit confused and went about contemplating the ability of bee's to actually have knees. She couldn't recall ever seeing one that bent it's legs, but then she also wasn't that fond of bees. "No rain is always good, but then can't they control it here?" She thought she had heard something once, but then it might have been her dad just telling tales.

"And ickle ones seem to have a tighter grasp than most people are willing to give them credit for." Michael would hate to see what would happen if Sammy got a hold of the wrong thing and yanked. It could cause some serious damage and he did seem to be attracted to anything shiny. He had just teased though that Sam was just going to be a born seeker. Michael just smiled at her suggestion though. "Actually planning on that, so... About now would be good as any other time." And then let them run it off or... well crawl it off in Sammy's case.

"Some powerful people could, I suppose. With the right spell. Never fear, if it does I've got just the spell for a family sized umbrella!" That she did, if she could do it right. There was always the possibility that she'd screw it up and cause her wand to spew underpants instead. It had happened before!

"Have you ever had that flavor of ice cream with those crunchy bits of something in it? I think it's called Crunchy Cookie Crumble Chocolate Chilled Delight. Or maybe it's Crunchy Chocolate Cookie Crumble Delight. Maybe it's none of those words, come to think of it. Maybe I made that up and wish he had that. Either way, they have something crunchy and chocolaty that is really the most astounding ice cream I have ever tasted and I shall have to buy a cone of it for you Brianna, and you Samuel, and even you Mister Michael. It'd make my day to do so!"

Luckily, Laura had taken a smidgen of her potions today and knew well enough that she'd have to have something sugar free for everyone's sake. She didn't want to scare anyone! "Come on then, lovelies!" She offered her hand to Brianna, hoping the little one might take it for better keeping up purposes, then Laura eyed all those packages Michael had. "Ever hear of a shrinking spell, lovely? I'm a master. Shall we shrink those be off?"

Brianna just nodded, looking up at Laura. "A big red one?" She asked about the umbrella. She was rather fond of red at the moment, and her uncle only hoped that would pass soon though. She shook her head though about the ice cream. "Daddy doesn't let us have ice cream lots. And it's usually vanilla." Bri smiled as she took Laura's hand. "But that sounds really good and we just don't tell Daddy, so shh!" She motioned for Laura to be quiet about it.

"He knows..." Michael whispered on the other side. He looked back at his rucksack. It didn't really seem that heavy to him and his hands were already a bit full with the bouncing baby boy. "I think they'll be alright and all. Almost too much trouble to toss everything around. And I wouldn't shrink Sammy." He was fairly sure his brother wouldn't appreciate having a mini!son after all. Though it might have been a little bit cute like that kid in the chocolate factory film.

Just not where Phillip was concerned. He'd likely just kill Michael and have fun with it.

"Whaaat? Just Vanilla?" Laura didn't push the whole shrinking thing. She had merely shrugged her shoulders and began walking with the three of them toward Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor. "That's rather boring! Your daddy is a good man though, too much ice cream can be bad for your teeth!" And for your sugar levels, as she found out, the hard way.

"Unfortunately," she sighed. "I will have to have the blandest of ice creams. Sugar-free." A shudder passed through her body. It was nearly blasphemous to utter sugar-free in her presence, and here she was doing the uttering! "Are you an ice cream man, Mister Michael? I am more prone to Sugar Quills myself. Are these magical children? Do they get magical candies?"

Brianna nodded with her nose all wrinkled up. "I mean it's okaaaay. But it's not really good. Not like strawberry." Then again, red. Or pink rather, so it was close enough for her liking. Her mother was just glad that she didn't want everything red or pink. "And why so, Miss Laura?" What was the point in having ice cream if it didn't have any sugar in it after all? "And I'm gonna go to Hogwarts!"

Michael smiled down at Brianna. "They both should. Or at least both of their parents did. Bri's shown some minor signs of magic, and Sammy's a bit young still. I'm not sure she's had enough though to have a favourite candy. Sugar quills and licorice wands are always good though, aren't they?" The red curls bounced with the large nods the small girl was doing. "And while I'm very fond of ice cream, my work desk is never completely stocked without a bag of fizzing whizbees."

"Yes, Strawberry is a delightful flavor," she smiled. That smile faltered slightly and she opted for a simple explanation to the question. "Oh, too much sugar makes me a mite bit uncontrolled and wild. I wouldn't want to be too wild, they might put me in a muggle zoo with the monkeys!" That was certainly a thread her mother used upon her often enough.

"What house? Ravies like you? I bet these two will be if that's the case. My Mum was a Puff, and so was I. It always seems to run that way... oh. Oh my Godric. I LOVE Fizzing Whizbees! Seriously, the only thing better is a really good piece of Droobles!" She was practically watering from the mouth at all this talk of candy when they finally approached the Parlor. Laura let go of Brianna's hand to hold the door open for the lot of them. "Don't you dare spend a galleon on them, Mister Michael. I don't often get to spoil the children of my friends. They haven't quite gotten to that stage to even have children! My treat!"

"Oooooh." At least Brianna sounded like she understood what was going on. She wasn't sure anyone could get quite as crazy as some of the kids she had met on the playgrounds. They were probably a bit wilder than some monkeys, and that included the one that threw stuff at the bars. "My daddy was a 'Puff! And Mum is a Ravie like Uncle Michael!"

"And grandparents who were Puffs as well. I'd be my luck they both end up in Gryffindor." It was obvious from his tone though that he wasn't fond of the scarlet and gold house. He shrugged it off though. And took Brianna's now free hand with is own as they walked in. "If you insist though, Miss Laura. Though I could also just buy ours." He knew she had already offered to get everyone's but it seemed polite to offer, even if she refused him. "And Sammy just needs a bowl of about anything as long as it doesn't have anything any more solid than the ice cream since he can't chew well and will be wearing more than gets into his mouth."

"Oooh, Puff blood! How lovely! It's not a bad house, despite what people say," she eyed Michael with a small sort of smile creeping up along her lip line. "She should be proud to be in any house as long as it isn't Slytherin." Sure it was a terrible remark but it was pretty true these days, as true as it was when they were in school.

"Mmm, no thank you, but it's going to be my treat, I really must insist." She stepped in after the three of them and to her delight she saw there was no line. She was giddy, until she remembered making that promise to herself about the sugar-free ice-cream. Laura sighed, but kept that smile bright as she ordered at the counter. "Hullo! Can I have a cone of that sugar-free vanilla? And... and, Brianna, dear, you can have anything you'd like! But make it just a bowl of vanilla for the babe, he hasn't much teeth, you know. Michael? What are you going to have?" It was the first time she hadn't said 'Mister Michael' and it felt so strange to say it like that. It felt naked, somehow.
