Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
[Who] Hannah Abbott and Neville Longbottom
[Where] The Leaky Cauldron
[What] Hannah offers him a drink via journals and he accepts! Hurrah!
[When] Night of his entry

Hannah was a talker, which was exactly why a certain group of wizards, witches, warlocks, and other creatures, made it a habit to quickly get their drink and answer her questions in grunts. They would flee the scene with a quick few steps and gather near the back of The Leaky Cauldron to keep their matters private, leaving everyone else to deal with the chattery young manager. Others, such as Miss Jengle, took up every other seat at the front bar and while some, like Miss Jengle, didn't seem to want to be bothered, it was their secret hope that Hannah would kindly ask them about their day. Often, she'd be the only one to care to ask.

At the moment, she was busy explaining why she had a rather strange looking scar across her eyebrow, leading up into her hairline. "See. What had happened was, is that, like, there was this string of broken lights, right? And I was trying to dispose of them proper and in the fashion of productive people, without magic, and I tripped over the cord and one of the broken ones caught my face right there! And, and, I was so unawares how bad it was until blood was just dripping down my eye and I was all, 'Whoa!' and THEN, I thought I could just heal it with magic and stop being lazy but I said the wrong spell and nearly froze my face off so I got frustrated with magic and broke my wand in half by flinging it across the room and hitting a window and having it fly through the window and someone ran over it, a muggle, in a car, and it snapped! I only just got my replacement and I was so annoyed by the magic that I decided to let it heal natural like and now I have a scar and it's horrid looking but I'm going to St. Mungo's tomorrow to get it taken care of proper, yeah? How are YOU Miss Jengle??"

Hannah took a breath, finally, and leaned on the counter to listen to the old witch go on when she caught the sight of her pal out of the corner of her eye. "NEVILLE! Hello!"

Neville had always been a calm being, slow to anger and relatively patient when it came to people. He was only really a wreck when he got to doing things that he couldn't figure out on his own. That's when his patient would run thin and when things would suddenly explode in his face. That didn't really put him a better mood when things like that happened, but he could do little to stop himself when his frustration in his lack of abilities would arise.

However, tonight, he was putting his responsibilities and his issues aside. He did need a night out without worrying about work or the debilitating state of his parents' health. Meeting Hannah at the Leaky didn't seem like such a bad idea. He'd almost forgotten what she was like, only to be constantly reminded every time he opened his journal to read something she wrote. She was quick and bubbly, and he was about as lumpy as a log, though he tried with great fervor to look excited for her.

"Hullo, Hannah," he replied back with a grin, "how are you today?"

"I'm ab fab, the bee's knees. Lookit, I'm Hannah Potter!" She pointed to her scar, the one she'd been blabbering on about. Miss Jengle was mumbling something about people never really listening when Hannah turned to Miss Jengle and cocked a brow. "I am too listening, you said you had a horrible problem with your knee arthritis and you're having to go to the healers once a week for proper magical therapy." That shut up the old hag, to an extent. She still muttered but Hannah was busy talking to Neville.

"Oh dear, you don't look so swimmingly," she spoke on what she knew from reading his journal and from being the type of witch who could read things. Tea leaves, crystal balls, runes, fire, stars, hands and faces. She could read it all and while Hannah seemed awfully stupid about some things, she was very smart in regarding feelings.

"Here is that butterbeer, let me know when you want another, lovey." She placed the open bottle on the bar.

Neville did his best to try and keep up with her. It had been a long day, and he was a bit more sluggish than usual, or was he just comparing himself to how active Hannah was? Either way, he was finding himself having to pause in order to take in all that had just happened in such a short amount of time.

Taking a seat up at the bar, he reached for his drink and took a hearty gulp of it, coming up for air with an almost inaudible whispered 'ahh' sound. "Thanks, Hannah." Neville had always been a bit of an observer, not really coming to any outright conclusions about anyone, but he did find himself intrigued by certain people. Miss Jengle, for example, had him rather perplexed at the moment, more so than Hannah actually.

"Hannah Potter, huh," he said with a grin, "whether it's his sister, his wife or his daughter, all three of those titles are likely to get you in a bit of trouble with someone." It was, of course, said in a joking manner, mostly done to distract her from his own dreary sort of look about him. He'd gotten good at getting people to stray away from the subject of his parents for years. Now, he used that skill to get people to stray away from subjects he wasn't all too keen on discussing, especially not in such a public place with so many people around.

She was quiet the whole time he sat there thinking to himself, and she was still when he opened his mouth to down that butterbeer in big gulps, and then she was just buzzing with a desire to wiggle, giggle, and make funny comments so he’d smile big like he was when he spoke about her silly comment. Neville looked so lovely when he smiled! Actually, he looked very lovely smiling or not. When did he get so tall? When did his hair do that darling floppy thing that Hannah liked in boy’s hair? She sighed and palmed her chin.

She was staring. Not casually glancing or politely listening, but flat out staring.

Then she was being prodded by Miss Jengle, who said, “what on earth took you ta’ Jupiter, youngin’?”

Jupiter? Huh? Hannah jerked out of her daze and felt her cheeks grow hot, hot, hot. “Huh? Oh. Neville, your hair looks nice. And you seem thirsty. Are you okay?”

Neville was not only completely male, but he seemed to have inherited every oblivious gene on the planet. Obvious as it might have seemed, Neville was basically clueless as to the reasons why Hannah was staring at him in such a way. He wasn't sure he entirely hated it, but he still had no idea what that all was about.

At the mention of his hair, he unconsciously brought his hand up to run through his hair. It'd been a long day, and he was sure it looked all of a mess, but for reasons he, again, wasn't sure of, he didn't really care. Hadn't Hannah seen him in school all beat up at one point? Messy hair now was probably not that big of a deal anyway.

"I'm all right, Hannah. Thanks. Just a bit tired, really." He gave her the strongest smile he could muster at the moment. She deserved something better than his gloomy face and tousled hair.

"Liar," she mused, smirking slightly. "Neville, let's read your palms. Come on then, turn them over, open your fingers. Come on!" Tired, maybe, but okay? No. She wasn't stupid.

Okay, she was slightly dumb but mostly she was dumb in tragic and epic ways. This was neither the time nor the kind of issue that she usually went stupid about. She knew something was up and she was just nosy enough to want to find out, all for his sake really. She wanted him to vent if he needed to, like the rest of the tavern's patrons. It always made them feel better!

Hannah reached out for his hands and tugged them forward. Then she twisted them gently so she could see his palms. Her blue eyes squinted and she cocked an eyebrow. "Interesting."

Neville almost smirked when she took the liberty to reach out and grasp his hand. It felt awkwardly comforting wrapped around his, and he was suddenly far too involved with what she was doing to pay very much attention to his drink. "What do you see?"

The question sounded as if he was serious. In truth, he wasn't much of a fan of Divination. He was rubbish at the subject, but then again, Neville barely had normal eyes to see where he was going and not trip up like he usually did, much less did he have the inner eye, the ones potential seers supposedly had. His question was simply out of mild curiosity if nothing else. He wouldn't believe it one way or the other.

"I see, hm.. " her fingers lightly traced the curves and lines of his hand. It was much larger than her own dainty paw and looked slightly work worn. He was a Herbologist, wasn't he? Always working with the outdoors and the greenhouses? It explained why his hands felt the way they did. "You work very hard," she commented finally.

"You work hard, and you do what you love. Your Saturn mount, here," she pressed on his middle finger. "It's quite large compared to your others, which is a sign of a balanced soul. You feel at peace with your job now, but then, your life line has a distinct branching off that leads you into a new direction. So a job change, or a change in relationships is just around the corner! That's fun! What kind of job change are you wanting?"

Neville shivered a bit as her felt her fingers running up and down and left and right over his palm. It was an eerily calm feeling, knowing that a pretty girl was touching his hand in such a way and talking so openly about his future, one he didn't try to think about too often. He enjoyed life at the moment. Though alone, he had very few complaints, save for the fact that life had fallen into this boring, little routine.

"I'm not really wanting a change though. I like where I am, and I don't really see myself going anywhere at the moment." It took a lot of effort for him to get that out, mostly because he felt just a touch uncomfortable with her hand on his the way it was.

"Oh?" She hardly realized that she was just latched onto his hand like a fool. Hannah was too busy reading his mounts and lines to really care. Her blue eyes lifted to meet his darker gaze and she smiled brightly. "Even if you do like your job, there has to be something you wouldn't mind doing beside this job. I wouldn't mind.. mmm.." Now she was just massaging at his hand and humming as she thought over what she always wanted to do.

"I always wanted to design robes! And gowns! And muggle clothes! I wouldn't mind doing that and this. I've always loved this job though, because I get to talk to so many different people! It's loads of fun!" Hannah was so chipper that Miss Jengle felt the need to grumble something ill before sliding off her seat to take her drinking elsewhere. Hannah sighed happily and finally let go of Neville's hand.

"I hope your new job is fun."

Neville felt almost a bit disappointed when she let go of his hand. It was almost as if the energy she carried with her had been transferred over to him through their conjoined hands. It was some sort of strange magic, he could only guess.

"Well, I wouldn't mind teaching Herbology at Hogwarts. I doubt they'd trust me to do so, me being so clumsy and all." Had he.... actually said that out loud? He'd never told anyone of his dreams to be a professor at Hogwarts. Why suddenly did he feel so open to speak his thoughts in front of Hannah? He'd never thought of her as a really close friend, not like Harry or Ron or Dean. She was just a friend.

What on earth was in that drink?

"Oh! Oh my gosh, that's amazing, Neville! You would be SUCH a good Herbology professor! You know what? I bet they could use you. Professor Sprout is getting older and she probably wants to retire. The teaching field is really quite an open field if you're good at a subject. You were always the best at Herbology!"

By now, Hannah was opening another Butterbeer for him, one for herself, and pouring three shots of fire whiskey for a group of Italian Warlocks that seated themselves at the bar. "Hey guys, I mean uh.. Buon giorno!" To which they all cheered and replied in return, "Hallo Madame Abbott!" Hannah grinned and took a shot for herself as they took theirs, shouting, "Opa!" They laughed, and while she thought it was because they liked her attitude, it was mainly the way she kept mixing Greek with her Italian.

Then Hannah return to Neville with a sigh. "I love dark haired guys."

How come everything with Hannah Abbott had to go by so fast? When did those Italian blokes get there, and where had she gotten her hands on Firewhiskey so quickly? Neville was far too slow to keep up with the program, though he tried his best to at least stay just one step behind. "Yeah, I guess I was all right at Herbology in school. Don't know how good I'd be at teaching it though, not to younger kids or anything."

He glanced at the Italians briefly, simply grinning at them and nodding in greeting. How Hannah ever got used to this was beyond him. Then again, she was far livelier than he had ever been or probably would ever be. "Dark haired guys?" he asked, blinking at her. Had he heard her correctly? That certainly had come out of left field. What had she meant by that exactly?

"Oh yes! You're all such fabulous eye candy. Can't stop staring at you dark haired men, what with your dark eyes and," a sigh escaped her lips in a dreamy sort of way and Hannah felt her self smiling a bit more than she had been a minute ago. Her cheeks were even hurting a bit. "You've certainly gotten very fit, Nev! Lookit!"

Hannah leaned forward and lowered her voice. Her eyes darted off to a gaggle of witches over Neville's left shoulder. She had to cover her mouth to keep from having her lips read. "There is a whole lot of witches over there that keep staring at you! See? Dark haired men are divine!"

Neville, being the bumbling baboon that he was, couldn't help but look over at the gaggle of girls that Hannah was referring to, which just sent the group into a fit of giggles. Neville blushed horribly and turned back to Hannah, looking rather mortified. He didn't even know who any of those witches were! And he figured that if they probably took the time out to get to know him, they wouldn't be so keen on eying him down.

"Uhm, Hannah..... do you think we can get out of here? Not feeling too.... comfortable." Which was true, he was feeling a bit sweaty, particularly his palms and armpits. Merlin, if she ever found out about that, he'd probably jump off the fifth floor. He was so terribly embarrassed all the time.

She was sure that he'd feel just splendid after knowing that there were witches who fancied him, but that just didn't seem the case. Poor Neville looked horrified and Hannah felt it was all her fault for even pointing the ladies out. It was only right that she should fix things and do as he asked! Thankfully, the same time Neville asked to go somewhere else was the same time Tom decided to come down for a bit of a drink and look about the place. "Oh, Tom! Hullo, glad you came down.. I'm going to go to my break. I'll be back!"

He smiled kindly and nodded a bit as he took to sipping on a firewhiskey. "Come on then, Nev, darling." Hannah grabbed two bottles of butterbeer and slipped around the bar. "We'll go for a walk." She offered one of the beers to him and popped hers open before she began walking off toward to the exit into Diagon Alley.

Neville nodded and took the beer, making sure to keep his face well hidden from the witches. He was a shy boy, always had been, and he often didn't know how to handle complex issues. Throw at him a snake-horcrux, and he'd make sushi out of it in no time. But a group of giggling girls? What on earth could he do then? Blush and walk off, and that's exactly what he did.

He followed Hannah out back, pulling out his wand to tap the stones in order to be allowed in to the Alley, though he still felt a bit embarrassed, not because of the witches so much now. Here was Hannah giving him much needed company, and he was being all bashful and withdrawn. "Er.... Sorry about that." It was the best he could do without turning red like a tomato again.

"Why are you so shy, Neville?" She couldn't help but question his very nature. It just didn't seem right to her for some odd reason. It seemed that he should've outgrown that boy in him who thought he was not deemed worthy for attention. Hannah stepped with him into the Alley, following a path that the moonlight and fire lit lanterns made on the cobblestones.

"You're really very fit, and so nice. You should flaunt it if you got it! My cousin's girlfriend told me that once. She's a muggle. Her arse is the size of two bowling balls, and she's always shaking it. Because she has it, so she flaunts it. It's crude to say it like that, but you're very fit and I think you shouldn't be shy."
