Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO : Susan Bones and Wayne Hopkins.
WHAT : A...... a.... a..... a date?
WHERE : Starts off in Susan's flat and then goes...... somewhere.
WHEN : Saturday morning.
STATUS : Thread/Incomplete.
RATING : Probably PG-13 for Wayne's inevitable language. XD

Straight? Curly? Straight? Curly? Straight? Curly?

She couldn't decide. Did it really matter that much?

I always have my hair straight. But... if I wear my hair curly, will he think I want to be serious with him? Would it be too much? I mean.... I could wear it straight, but that'd be like every other day, and clearly, this is not like every other day, and he'd probably take it as me not wanting this to be special and.....

She was clearly overthinking the situation, and not ever having been a boy herself, she would have never imagined that Wayne probably couldn't care less how her hair looked. Still, she wanted to look nice and not like she usually did as if she was coming into work. So, curly it was!

Then, it was time for pacing around as she waited for her hair to curl. Will he kiss me again? I wonder if he'll kiss me. Maybe he'll kiss me. Merlin, I hope he kisses me. Though her thoughts were interrupted by a sound in her living room, which meant he was here, and she was late, and there were curlers in her hair! Plucking them out as quickly as possible, she splashed on whatever perfume was sitting in front of her and went out to meet him, not noticing she still had half a head full of pink and purple curlers.

"Fuck, shit, fuck, motherfucking wanker, shit, fuck fuck fuck!"

Wayne's pacing was causing Zeus to go mad. The German Shepard was anxious enough knowing that it had chewed one of Wayne's shoes into oblivion, it could only assume the pacing man was cursing because of that. He had no clue that Wayne was actually venting about his upcoming date and thus Zeus kept barking and panting, kept pacing with Wayne and finding it impossible to sit still.

"Zeus. Sit!" Until Wayne told him to sit, then it was easier for the dog to get comfortable if he felt it was all right by his master.

"I don't know why I thought I could do this. I should just ... obliviate her memory of me ever asking and erase my entry and everything can go back to... well I would have to obliviate Megan's memory too. And Hannah.. and everyone else who read it... FUCK." Apparently he was just going to have to suck it up and go for it. So, without further hesitation he did just that.

"So long, Zeus. Be back around.. five." And he apparated into her apartment, only to find her looking befuddled with half a head full of curlers.

And she still looked so fucking beautiful.

"Hope I'm not.. late," he breathed, unsure of how to mention her hair.

"Oh no! Not late at all." She grinned at him, taking in the outfit he wore and hoping it matched all right with hers at least in regards to how formal or informal it was. "Actually, I was worried I'd be late and that you'd find me in my...."

And that was when she patted her head, feeling about several thousand curlers still latched onto her golden, blonde mane. Her eyes grew to about five times their normal size, and the only thing that came out of her mouth was a soft, whispered, "curlers...."

She could hardly blink or move, feeling utterly horrified. "Uhm.... Give me just..... two seconds." And she turned, quickly heading back to her room, yanking out curlers as she went.

His outfit was casual, at best. Wayne only wore suits to work and he knew that such an outfit was going to be far too formal for what they were going to be doing. So, he toned it down. He ended up wearing one of his white button ups and gray and white pinstripe vest. With his sleeves rolled up to his elbows and his trousers being a simple pair of nice jeans. Sure, Wayne had a limited sense of fashion, but it worked well for him. In fact, despite it working well for him, he still felt terribly self conscious in regards to his outfit as compared to hers. Not that he wanted to match or anything, he simply didn't want to be overdressed or under dressed to make her feel any worse than she must've been feeling.

"Sure thing, Sue." She zipped out of sight and he wished he had more to say to her to make her feel a bit better. It wasn't that embarrassing, was it? "I.. I like your hair curly. It's very lovely on you," he opted to call out to her. Though, it sounded horrible and he simply changed subjects so that he wouldn't get caught with his foot in his mouth.

"I hope you like the Zoo.."

"Thank you! I just did it this morning, and...."

Wait, had he just said 'the zoo'? Oh goodness... Had he lost his blooming mind? "Wayne? The zoo?" She was struggling a bit with a particularly difficult curler. And she too had decided to go for casual, with a short jean skirt, brown leggings and a long sleeve shirt with a little hoody. She found that she was always a bit cold when in regular clothes, so she overcompensated.

Making sure all the curlers were now out of her hair, she returned to the living room where he stood and blinked at him. "Well, we could go to the zoo if you really want. I'll just have to double my allergy potion this morning."

OH. YEAH. SHIT. Wayne's eyes doubled in size when she mentioned the allergy potions and then his mouth dropped open as he tried to mutter an apology for his serious blunder. "Oh, fucking.. Merlin's.. pants. I forgot! I did! Fuck, I'm sorry, you're allergic. How did I not... fuck. We can do something else. Anything else. Anything you want."

Oh boy, how fucking romantic was that? Wayne's shoulders slumped and he ran a hand through his brown curls. "Merlin. I've failed already."

Susan tried not to blush at all the cursing. She was used to Wayne cursing, though she was not all used to anyone cursing so much within such a small timeframe. She giggled a bit and shook her head. Heck, just because she was allergic to life itself didn't mean she couldn't enjoy regular activities. She just needed to take a few extra precautions.

"We could go to the zoo if you really want to." She headed into her kitchen and pulled out her allergy potion from the cupboard. Wondering just how much she could take without overdosing, she started to run some numbers in her head, absently walking back over to where he was standing.

"I don't really mind to be honest. I just.... forty five divided by nine plus a hundred and twenty.... need to figure out how to..... carry the decimal over minus the square root of..." Her thoughts were getting jumbled in with her speech, and it was getting hard to understand what she was trying to say.

Numbers flew at him from her mouth and bopped his head until his tiny headache worsened. His back felt stiff and his heart was thudding wildly like it had just ran a marathon of it's own without asking the rest of his body. It was all rather annoying and Wayne knew that cursing like a mad pirate was not becoming of a man courting a woman such as Susan Bones. He bit his lip and counted to ten.

"We can.. do.. something else. I mean, there is plenty else to do. What do you like doing.. best?" He was already preparing himself to have to take her on some bird thing. Some thing where birds liked to do frilly things for fun. Thank god Susan wasn't quite muggle enough to mention a chick flick. He would endure it though, for her.

"Honestly, Sue, I'm not very good at this thing... I mean, I want to be, I'm just.. not."

Susan blinked up at him, though her eyes never really focused, as she was still running numbers through her mind. "Hmm?" She was only half paying attention, so she'd only gotten the gist of all that he'd said. What did she like doing best? Merlin, was that a tough question. She liked not having to sneeze or have asthma attacks. She liked music and singing in the shower and laughing. She liked all sorts of random things, though none really came out as a concrete activity for the two of them to participate in.

"Why don't we just head down to get something to eat, and perhaps something will strike our fancies along the way?" It was the only thing she could think of that didn't involve her potentially getting severely hurt. She frowned at him though, momentarily pushing thoughts of numbers and dosages to the back of her mind. "Not very good at what, Wayne?" She really had no idea what he was talking about. They were just deciding on what to do.

Something to eat sounded splendid. His stomach thought so too as it was knotting up intensely the whole time. Perhaps that was better explained through his anxiety, but it could've very well have been the lack of food. He was too nervous to eat prior to the engagement and had hardly managed to finish his cup of coffee. He was eager to agree with her idea and just forget what he was saying when she happened to say something about whatever it was he was saying, thus, making it impossible to drop.

He rolled his shoulders and glanced down at his scuffed up boots before lifting his deep blue eyes to her gaze. "This dating thing," he admitted. "I'm not good at it."

"Oh..."

She blinked at him curiously, tilting her head to the side to observe him for a moment. "Dating?" A gentle smile appeared on her lips, and she shook her head. "I'm not very good at it either. Never done it before, in fact." She shrugged, going back over to the kitchen to deposit her meds before picking up a stray button-down sweater along the way, just in case.

"I know a nice little cafe a few blocks down. We could walk there and have brunch?" It was around that point in the day when it wasn't quite breakfast time, but it wasn't quite lunch time either. And she didn't know if he wanted to have breakfast or lunch. Luckily, this little place she knew about sold both.

Her statement didn't make him feel that much better, but it certainly made him feel a little less alone. Of course, Wayne's thoughts on the whole matter were quite selfish, weren't they? The whole time he'd been thinking of how horrid he was at the dating thing and how badly he must've looked and how terrible she must have thought him and only after she spoke up did he suddenly clue in to the fact that she was probably having the same thoughts he was.

Minus all the cursing, no doubt. The statement didn't make him feel better, it made him feel worse. He was being a right git with such thoughts! "Then, perhaps we can be bad at it together," he suggested.

Wayne stepped forward and with only a second of hesitation he lowered his hand to take hers. "Brunch sounds good, Sue." Could she feel his heartbeat pounding in his palms?

Susan grinned down at their conjoined hands. Could he feel how sweaty hers was? Well, he must have. That's not exactly something that can be easily concealed. "Perhaps we could," she replied with a gentle smile, giving his hand a bit of a squeeze. Of course, she was as nervous as ever. Dates weren't something Susan Bones went on. Unless they were to visit her Healer for regular check ups.

Still though, she wasn't all that anxious. This was Wayne after all, one of her best friends. There was nothing to be nervous about..... was there? "Come. We can walk there. It's a Muggle place, but they've got lovely food, and I'm not allergic to any of it!" She blinked and tucked some of her hair behind her ear with her free hand. "Well.... most of it," she confessed with a blush.

It would have been rude to mention how moist her palms were, and besides, Wayne was becoming plenty distracted by worrying about his own sweaty hand to mention hers. "Muggle is fine by me," he mentioned casually. "It took me a while to get used to Pumpkin Juice, you know. I mean, my father never thought highly of it anyways and said it was disgusting. I'd have to agree, it still makes my stomach churn."

This wasn't so bad! When he made small talk as they walked out of the flat and out of the building, he forgot to feel anxious about his lack of dating skills. "What sort of food doesn't give you allergic reactions?" He could remember a few things still, because when kids tried to pass those dishes to her at supper he'd always make sure they didn't touch her plate. There must have been more than that though.

It was easy to forgot the nerves and the sweaty palms. As soon as they broke free of the flat and burst into open air, everything changed. It was as if someone had magically transported them both back to Hogwarts where all they needed to worry about was whether they liked one another or not.

"Ah, pumpkin juice," she replied with a nod, idly swinging their hands just a bit. "Now that's one thing I'm not allergic too. There's also bread and salty crackers and some lettuce leaves. I don't think I'm allergic to tomato, but I don't fancy it much. Potatoes. Not allergic to those.... not that I know of. Hmm.... Oh, and beets!"

She nodded, glancing around at him and giving him a hopeful smile. Sure, things had never been all that easy for Miss Bones, but she learned how to get on rather well with life despite it all. "And jelly. Mmm, jelly."

"Mmm, beets and potatoes, what a lovely dinner I'll make you one night," he laughed. It was getting considerably easier for him to feel comfortable holding her hand. Then again, he always supposed that when they finally did date it'd be easy. It'd be perfect. It'd be destiny. Boy, he could hear Terry Boot now, telling him how he read his crystal ball and he knew it'd be like this from the start. Bullocks.

"So... what do you make of all this.. cushie business?" Their hands took to swinging between them as they walked and Wayne was positive there were muggles giving them a strange look or two. "It's awfully strange. I wonder if there is some connection with that one bloke we had a problem with, making the spell guns."

Susan glanced over at him and couldn't help but giggle. He'd make dinner for her? That sounded so wonderful to her at the moment, and she was feeling so much better about this whole thing suddenly. "Really? That'd be lovely, Wayne." She felt her cheeks grow warmer, though her face fell into a frown at the mention of 'cushies'.

"I'm not sure. It all seems so odd. Daddy's been owling me about it as well. He says the Auror Office is chaotic nowadays, almost like...." And she didn't want to mention it, because she was sure he'd probably thought of something similar. "It's almost like it was before..... strange things happening and all."

Smiles were all well and good, but ones from the lips of Susan Bones were distracting, and after a moment, before commenting further, he had to stop dead in his tracks and let go of her hand. "By the way, I'm hoping you know where we're going.. because I haven't a clue." He looked left, then right, then forward, then backward, smiled a bit and took her hand again to signal he wanted to go on if she knew where they were going.

The conversation was turning a bit grave after that bit, much to his dismay, but it was all his fault. There he went saying things that shouldn't have been said, failing at conversation etiquette ! "Yes, but, it's the opposite, you know. So we haven't any reason to worry.."

Susan's face was going through an array of emotions, from amused to concerned to sad to almost frightened and back to amused again. Wayne had her on an emotional roller coaster ride. Nothing changes, she thought, grinning to herself. "Of course, I know where we're going, silly. It's just around this bend here. Not too far for you, is it now?"

Oh! Was this what it was like to flirt with a boy? She was feeling tingly and jittery and excited, as if she was breaking the law and running away to her freedom, a freedom she wasn't all too sure she wanted just yet. The rush was far too exhilarating to give up.

"Right.... of course not...." It was absolutely silly to think of things like this, especially since the Wizarding World had been running peacefully for several years now. No worries, right? Or well..... Susan didn't have much time to worry, because as she was about to start thinking on it more, they had arrived at the small cafe, and Susan led Wayne to her favourite table near the back.

"It's rather low key, but I think it's lovely."
