Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO : Leanne Wickham, Charlie Weasley and Chloe Weasley
WHAT : Just a nice afternoon at home.
WHERE : The Cottage on the Reserve
WHEN : Monday Afternoon
STATUS : Thread/Incomplete.
RATING : n/a

Leanne looked out the kitchen window in to the small backyard of her their home, watching Chloe play in amongst the garden that Charlie and her kept. It wasn't impressive at all, but it was nice enough for them to entertain in if they ever had anybody over. Which of course was rare...none of Charlie's family visited all that often, preferring Leanne and he to come to them most of the time. It was understandable, not many people wanted to spend time on a Dragon Reserve. She didn't blame them. She was making lunch for her family, something simple, sandwiches, butter beer (watered down apple juice for Chloe) and some cut up fruit.

She knew Charlie was outside with Chloe, but still kept a close eye. Either one of them could be distracted and Chloe, the mischievous little girl that she was, could get in to anything really. It was always funny to see what the little girl could do to drive either one of them crazy, even going so far to pit them against each other. Leanne though wasn't going to sleep in her daughter's bed if she could help it, ever again. Then she hoped Charlie wouldn't have to sleep in there either.

Putting some serviettes on to the tray, she brought the whole thing out with help of some magic, the pitcher of butter beer following her outside behind her along with Chloe's sippy cup of juice. Chloe was used to magic of course, but at the same time she enjoyed seeing things float by themselves and other such simple things. Leanne was sure that Chloe would end up at Hogwarts, and if they were lucky, in Gryffindor. She was already showing so many signs of bravery, considering.

She placed down the tray and waved at Charlie from across the yard, covering her eyes, shielding them from the sun. When she was satisfied that he knew to collect their daughter from what they were doing and come on over for lunch, Leanne turned her attention back to the table and set things about for the three of them to eat. She then adjusted the umbrella so that it would shade them properly. Chloe had a tendency to take after her father's side in that she burned quite easily. She grasped at the pitcher and sippy cup that had been patiently floating beside her and placed them down on the table, before taking a seat.

Any day that both Charlie and Leanne had off was an extreme rarity at the reserve. He enjoyed any time he got to just spend with his daughter though and it wasn't odd to find both of them asleep on the sofa or recliner after the two had worn each other out. Part of him was going to be very sad when Chloe had to go off to Hogwarts, but there was also a fair bit of him as well that was looking forward to it. For now though there was playing to be done.

"AHHH! LOOK OUT BABY DRAGON! It's the BIG, TOUGH Daddy dragon out to get yoooou!" He had his arms out like he was flying about and just chasing the little girl around while she giggled. Charlie would make whooshing and swooshing sounds as he ran around in circles sometime just to give her enough room to get ahead of him good. Chloe roared back at him occasionally and squeeled with delight when he caught up with her and picked her up, twirling around with the little girl a few times before kissing the top of her head.

"Again! Again!" Charlie smiled down at her for a bit just considering before seeing Leanne waving at him. He nodded back at her before turning Chloe around so she was facing him. "Let me check something first." He lifted her up enough to listen carefully to her stomach for a moment before looking up at her. "I think I hear him growling." She knew what her father meant with teasings that she had a dragon in her tummy that growled when he was hungry. He put her up to his ear again before turning his head quickly to blow on her stomach and sending the girl into another bout of giggles as he carried her over to the table and putting Chloe into a booster seat so she could reach the table and taking a seat himself. "Looks wonderful, Lele." He smiled at her, pouring them both a glass of butterbeer and checking the umbrella. Sunscreen helped, but it didn't do everything.

Leanne nodded, "Thank you love," and smiled at the praise before serving out Chloe's plate for her. She used a knife she brought out and cut up the food in to smaller bites. She knew that Chloe was a fairly good eater, not stuffing her face too quickly unless it was cake, but she still worried. Being a mum and all made her think about these things, even if she wasn't ever expecting to have to. Once she'd finished serving up Chloe, she put the plate in front of her as well as a napkin, though she knew that was more for she herself to use on the little girl, rather then her daughter cleaning up after herself. She was a messy one sometimes.

Once Chloe was settled she served herself a large helping of fruit along side a half of a sandwich and then taking a long drink of butterbeer poured for her. "It's so nice out, but warm too. I hope it's not like this tomorrow. There's so much to do in that new area that the dragon's have found down past the big thicket of trees. I don't think anybody realized that the dragons actually spend time down there." She said using the back of her hand to brush the fringe off her forehead, glancing over at Charlie.

Charlie managed to get his own food on his plate as well as grabbing a napkin just in case. He swore only his daughter could managed to make a mess out of this, but then that was the talent of a three year old.

He nodded a bit to her comment, giving off the smallest bit of a sigh. He missed actually being out in the field, but then he had his opportunity and it was the least he could do to make sure Leanne wasn't taken off, nor that she'd be dropped off at her grandmum's daily and brainwashed into trying to get the couple married as well. "Well hopefully we haven't had any muggles find them by accident. And if they do find them, hopefully there's still something left to use a memory charm on." He winced a bit at the idea of that happening, but they could only guard and make sure no one escapped far. "Just be careful. It's getting close to mating season and all." Not that she didn't know that already, but he was easily worried.

Watermelon was an easy mess to make though, and what kid didn't like getting mess with Watermelon? Though that was what cleaning charms were for, and Leanne and Charlie had both gotten rather good at them over the last few years, considering.

Leanne, having known Charlie for so long caught the sigh and it caused her to catch her bottom lip between her teeth. She knew he missed it. She knew that he was staying home so that she could go to work, to do what she loved. Neither one of them had planned on a child and yet here they were, with one. She had been thinking though that perhaps they'd ought to switch off every few years, every year even. She'd yet to discuss this with him of course. He'd always just argue with her, that he'd had his time and now it was hers...but she knew he missed it. "We haven't, it's in such a remote little area, I'm not surprised we missed it during the first bought around. And if that's where they're deciding to mate we've got to make sure all the wards are up." She said. She appreciated his concern though, it made her happy to know he still worried.

"I've been talking to some of the guys you know. About you. They miss having you about Charlie." she mentioned casually. This was a good time to bring up things was it not? She was pretty sure it was.

Well really Percy didn't like getting messy with anything, but then he wasn't exactly a normal child. As the question wasn't really asked aloud though, Charlie went ahead and ate a piece of watermelon himself, trying to keep as clean as possible.

Anyone and everyone at the reserve knew that Charlie wasn't completely happy with his administrative job over the camp, but it allowed him to take Chloe with him until Leanne was off. Then it also came with duties of patching the others up when someone got injured. Only things minor enough that they didn't really need to go by St. Mungo's, but still the stories of what had happened to cause it weren't exactly easy to listen to either. He had been working for thirteen years out in the field (twelve and a half, but he always upped it to 13 in arguments) compared to her now ten years (minus a some time off from her pregnancy) so she deserved her time out there as well. She was bloody well one of the best on the reserve, but then look who had been training her. He nodded though, not sure what else to say. He had taken him a while to stop reminding her how to do her job and what wards needed to go up or how to trick the rookies out of almost every knut they earned... She knew all that now.

"I'm about. Not out on a broomstick and usually buried in injury reports and other such things, but about." He tried to keep it light considering Chloe was right there and little ears liked repeating things. Though spelling out swear words almost made them not worth using.

Of course she had been trained by the best. Who else would have she trained under? Leanne was pretty insistent on making sure she knew everything, and after ten years in the field (nine and nine months, there had been those three months that the doctor's had to basically pry her off her broom when she 'popped' and riding a broom with a big belly had finally become a big pain, but in arguments she upped it just like Charlie did) she'd seen and done a lot. In her mind though, ten and thirteen were the same in her eyes.

She had been in her prime, three years ago, at least as far as she was concerned, she was at the time where she was considered veteran, and she'd be training the newbies, however being pregnant had paused all that, and she was all too eager to take Charlie up on his offer to work on the ground so that one of them could always be with Chloe. Now though, three years more in the sky had made her want to spend sometime with her daughter. She wasn't sure she wanted to tell Charlie that though, mostly because she feared he'd think she'd gone soft. She'd worked so hard for so long to prove herself, that she was capable...did she want to ruin that? She worried he'd think less of her, love her less perhaps even. She wasn't a spring chicken anymore. She'd had a child. And every year more and more pretty young girls came on in to the camp looking for a shot at being...well her. She could trounce them, she was sure, but her feelings about staying home with Chloe made her think otherwise.

"Yes, I know you're still out and about love...but I mean they miss you in the skies...plus they only get to see you if they need to file paperwork or if they've been careless and gotten themselves bit or scratched or burned. Plus...well I know you, you want to be out there too..." she said quietly. She hoped that his yearn for the skies would help her along in getting him back out there and her at home...she figured she wouldn't look soft if it was because Charlie was getting bored of his job doing administrative work...

There was still a good amount of difference that could happen in three years. Especially when you'd been out of the game that long and the half-pint hatchlings they'd had when Chloe was born were now adolescents in their own age and full of piss and vinegar and it was easier to know temperaments of those dragons when you'd been around them. Going back even now would take a bit more acclimating than he wanted to admit. Things were fine though the way they were even if it wasn't quite where he expected to be at this point in his life. But then he wouldn't be here with Leanne having sandwiches with a daughter that was dripping watermelon juice onto her top. That was enough for him that he might even be willing to work at the Ministry to keep it. And that was really a scary thought...

He really wouldn't think any less of her for wanting to be around their daughter as she kept growing up. If anything, some might be talking about her not being around from the beginning and Charlie being around doing a fair bit of the child care. Charlie's also considered the idea that children were probably never in Leanne's plans for the rest of her life while he had been more neutral on the subject. He was more than happy to take care of things so she could go back to doing her job. They had always been their job first and foremost after all. If he was going to lose any love for her, it would have been years ago.

"There's always flying around here. They know none of them would be overly willing to baby-sit all day and we can't really afford anyone other than my family." Charlie picked up his napkin though and went to wipe off Chloe's face. "They can come by and visit if they wanted to see me that badly.

Charlie however was Charlie, and no matter how long he'd been out of the game, Leanne was sure that he'd manage to get back in to it just as quickly. You never really lost it, especially in dragon keeping, it was much like ridding a bike...then Leanne had felt a bit rusty after her three months away, but then she was also over eager to get right back in to it. Leanne ignored Chloe's dribbly chin for now, there was no point in wiping when she was just going to keep dribbling....

She was more then sure that she was originally talked about when she left Chloe at home with Charlie, and she was more then certian that some of his family had some choice words about her for that. None were ever said to her of course, but she wondered if any of them ever said anything to Charlie. And Chloe was growing up so fast...she worried that when the girl went off to Hogwarts...Leanne wouldn't know her very well. Leanne hadn't thought of children, they weren't really something she had planned on. She hadn't had a great childhood and she often thought she'd be a terrible mother. She thought perhaps that was another reason why she had been so keen to go back to work so soon after Chloe was born. Chloe was so tiny...Leanne worried she'd mess it up somehow.

This conversation wasn't going as she thought it was going to go. "I know...that's why perhaps you should go back to working out on the reserve, and I can swap you out for your position..." She said carefully. "It's not the same flying about here and flying about with the dragons Charlie." she commented looking down at her plate, afraid of what his reaction might be.

Neither of them had really had that much time off from work before though. Things changed and there were new locations to know as well if not better than the dragons as well as procedures. It wouldn't be impossible, but it wouldn't be entirely easy either.

Charlie would have laughed if Leanne actually suggest out loud that she was a bad mother in any way. They didn't have to be anything like their parents after all, and from everything he had ever heard about Leanne's mother she was really nothing like her. Charlie just had a lot of younger siblings and was used to babies and basic caring of them. Though the addition of Chloe only had his mum more insistent that they set a date for a wedding and that was another argument all together, and not one he wanted to get into this evening.

Charlie just shook his head a bit and took a bite of his sandwich. They could trade and then what? She would be stuck on the ground while he would be out working on the reserve. Besides there was also the very small minute possibility someone actually wanted his job. Why, he didn't really know, but there was always the chance. He was silent for a bit longer as he took a drink from his glass. "Can we perhaps talk about this later?" Perhaps when their daughter was asleep or at least not here while they were trying to eat.

Leanne sighed. She didn't want to talk about this later. She wanted to resolve it now. She wanted him to jump at the chance to be back out in the field, rather then behind some stuffy desk. She wanted to spend time with her daughter. She still couldn't express this though.

"Fine." She replied, stabbing a piece of watermelon with her fork and eating it. The conversation had not gone how it was meant to, at least when she'd practiced it in her mind. She wasn't sure what to talk about then, her mind still set on trying to get him to come out of retirement if you will. She glanced down at her plate.

She really was struggling with the idea of herself being a bad mother. She wasn't meant for the job, she was sure about that, but at the same time, she felt distanced sometimes from Charlie and Chloe. Not because they actually were, but the two had little jokes and teases that Leanne wasn't aware of. She also knew Chloe would often go to Charlie first when she had a problem and that too made her a little sad. She'd never been one to let something like this get her down and yet here she was, feeling badly about failing at providing the love and care a mother should.

She had to stop thinking about that though because she could feel her eyes prickling and she didn't want to explain to Charlie about the sudden tears that threatened her.

Charlie had other ideas though that would even work out well mathematically speaking in terms of the years they were always using against each other. After knowing Leanne this long though he knew that "fine" as well as the motions following did not actually mean "fine". He wanted to be able to eat in peace though without having an argument over all of this right here and right now. It had been such a nice day so far and Chloe would likely be running off a little more energy before settling down for a nap which would have been a bit better timing.

Chloe was three and a half years old now, adorable and growing up faster than a weed, but then it also meant that she was getting ever closer to primary school age where she would be needing at least some basic education that would help her when it likely came time for her to go to Hogwarts. Another two years therefore would at least put Leanne at twelve to his thirteen years. Though that was still another two years of him being the usual caretaker during the days she worked as well as seeing Chloe a lot of the time when Leanne wasn't working. It would be a bit of an odd line to balance on, but they could still talk about it later when they didn't have to start spelling things. Though they'd have to stop doing that some day when their daughter knew all the words they were actually spelling.

He'd never really noticed Chloe coming to him first or considered the idea that he might be a fair deal closer to their daughter than Leanne was. She was still a good mother in his eyes and figured that she heard the same sorts of stories and the like that he heard. Then he also came from a household where it was usually better to get your punishment from dad than mum... Then Leanne was far from being anything like Molly in that respect.

Leanne often didn't think of Chloe in these situations. It was ironic because she figured that the little girl didn't pick up on their sometimes tense conversations, but at the same time she had been told that no time then now was when her daughter would pick up her values. And yes, Leanne was in a slight mood now, and she very well knew Charlie would know that.

Two years...the ages three and five were so different though. Leanne wanted to get to know her daughter before the schooling came in. Before she was touched by the outside world, while it was still just the three of them together along with their 'dwaggins'. She wondered slightly if she was being selfish. However, she didn't like arguing with Charlie and thus she'd dropped the topic, unhappily so but still, she dropped it.

She ate in silence though, because she wasn't sure what else to talk about. At the end of the meal she'd take it upon herself to clear off the plates, so that Charlie could finish playing with Chloe and she could have a moment to herself to try and shake her mood, though she wasn't optimistic.

Idly, she cut the crust off of a triangle of a peanut butter sandwich for Chloe and put it on her plate once she was finished what was already on the plate. She pushed the little girl's juice closer to her and sighed. It occurred to her that she was just the providing figure currently. Working the harder job (not that she minded) to keep two steady incomes in to the house, though Charlie got the perks of providing for her materially and emotionally. Leanne looked out over the back yard again, sighing inwardly.

Charlie was fairly sure the mother and daughter were more alike than he wanted to admit sometimes. Except Leanne didn't get food all down her front on a regular basis. He bit back a sigh though as he wiped off his daughter's face again.

Hadn't they brought up homeschooling her once? Charlie thought they had or at least he had thought of it before and didn't like the idea much. There wouldn't be any social interaction for her other than what she was already getting, but they they also weren't exactly normal either. Even with other magical children, not many actually grew up on a dragon reserve. Especially ones who also happened to be related to the Weasleys which made them odd enough. But she was making her entire point from the idea of getting Charlie back to work rather than wanting to see more of Chloe and he wasn't a mind reader.

"The wild flowers are looking nice this time of year." What else was he going to say? The silence was getting a little awkward here and it was hard to just sit through.

Leanne didn't see that resemblance perhaps only in physicality. Chloe had her darker hair and her eyes. Then darker attributes tended to win over lighter ones when it came to genetics. Then she didn't have many people telling her that she reminded them of her daughter. Charlie had probably said it, but it'd likely fallen on deaf ears.

Yes, they had, and Charlie had expressed his dislike for it, so Leanne had put the books she'd purchased away, at least out of sight. She'd often pick one up just to continue reading on the subject, lest Charlie had a change of heart. It was a good idea for Chloe to be socialized, she had just her cousins to talk to especially with them being so reclusive up in the mountains. Leanne feared her daughter was going to end up being the girl in the back of the class eating the end of her wand after dipping it in mandrake...something or other.

And Leanne knew Charlie wasn't a mind reader, she just didn't want to admit that's what she wanted. It was possible though that Charlie knew her well enough that she had another motive...maybe.

"They do look nice. The seeds you planted shot up nicely." She commented back. However it was her daughter that was always the icebreaker between the two of them, if she knew it or not.

"Daddy more watamewen, pwease." Chloe asked Charlie. Leanne glanced at her plate. She was like her father in her eating habits though, she could put away tons of food...and where did it go? Charlie, sure had softened over the years but Chloe, though a little pudgy with her baby fat never seemed to overeat. Eating as much as she needed. Leanne was thankful for small blessings in that sense. Nobody liked cleaning up kid throw up.

It was hard to say how Leanne would have been at that age if she was raised in an all magical family or anything close to how Chloe was being raised now. So far she hadn't brought home any odd creatures they needed to worry about though. One trait unlike her father, but then there weren't many gnomes around to try and turn into pets. Nor ghouls in their attic.

He had at least been reconsidering the idea lately. Though Charlie was more factoring in the idea of him going back to his usual job rather than Leanne spending more time with Chloe. Not that he didn't enjoy all the time on the ground stuck behind a desk most of the day with his glasses on and feeling extremely like Percy... But he just didn't. The whole point of getting a job working with dragons had been that he wouldn't have a Ministry job like his dad, nor would he be in quite as much danger (or at least he thought) as Nymphadora might with all the weirdos that wandered the streets.

"I'm not sure I planted those specifically, but thank you." Charlie smiled at the little girl, getting her another few pieces of watermelon to put on her plate. "Anything else there, Chloe Bear?" At least she was fairly well behaved considering some of his family thought she was going to grow up to be some sort of wild child with her hair everywhere with small twigs and the like in it... See, they were good parents.

Leanne was...where was she when she was three? Living above the cafe and hanging out while her mother worked. Not really a typical childhood. Then in the larger sense her and Chloe were a lot more alike, they both didn't and weren't living out the typical childhood.

And Leanne knew all this...over the years, you tended to figure things out, and that's why she couldn't really understand why Charlie wouldn't jump at this chance.

But Chloe did sometimes did have her hair everywhere...and Leanne was sure the girl had twigs in her hair at /some/ point. She did spend almost all her time when it was nice out, outside...

Chloe nodded her head. "Coookies!" she drew the word out bouncing in her booster seat. "I want cooookies daddy!" she grinned at him and made a funny face.

Both were also little flirts from what he'd been told. Then if Leanne was going for older men, at least she only went six years and Charlie was still as in shape as he was. Chloe just had those eyelashes that she could beat a few times and practically have Charlie wound around her little finger. Something Leanne was also very good at, though she had a few more weapons at her disposal.

At least their daughter didn't always look like that though. She could speak very good English other than still sounding very much like she should for her age. Let Ron think whatever he might about his wonder child. She might end up growing up and marrying a Slytherin after all.

"First you have to finish everything on your plate before you get any cookies." Perhaps by then she would be too full or have forgotten all about them. One less battle to fight and if neither happened, he could at least work on her sharing skills and get a half cookie himself.

Leanne couldn't help though, that Charlie was so affected by their wiles. Then she didn't pull them out as often or for things that were small and didn't matter much. Like cookies. Leanne knew Chloe was a daddy's girl, but she couldn't help but wonder how much of that was because she'd let Charlie do most of the upbringing.

Then love knew no bounds did it? She'd managed to get Charlie hadn't she? And there were complications there as well. Some Slytherin's weren't so bad. She'd not minded Bole when she knew him.

Chloe pouted. "I don want so many watamewen's den." She crossed her arms and shook her head.

Leanne sighed, "Eat it up, you wanted it before you thought of cookies." She said with an eyebrow raise. Leanne didn't like giving in to Chloe too much, though she knew they were both guilty of indulging her.

Charlie was getting better about completely giving into Chloe's every whim though. They had to have a united front and all that other stuff he had heard before. If they didn't after all, things were going to get difficult fast and there likely would be problems when she figured out that she could ask both and get different answers... Though she had probably figured that out which could be why Charlie would check with Leanne when Chloe asked for something that could get him in trouble if he said yes after she had told Chloe no.

And it was an attitude like that that only proved that Leanne had never been on the Quidditch team. Slytherins were the enemy after all! Especially the purist snobs like the Malfoys.

"Watermelon is better than cookies anyhow." Charlie grabbed another piece for himself and popped it in his mouth to prove his point.

Children had that ability. Did all children though? She figured Ron was in for one hell of a time if that were the case, once Rose figured it out. Maybe they could goad Chloe in to teaching Rose that. How amusing would that have been?

Leanne hadn't ever really dealt with it, how could she know? For all she knew she could be purebloodesque...but she'd never know...so it wasn't something she decided to dwell on. It just brought up painful memories and who needed that?

Chloe pouted for only a few more minutes before a far off dragon cry echoed across the range where they lived. She giggled. "Dat was no Snoopy. He havin' a nap." she made sure they knew it wasn't her dragon that was making such a ruckus.

Leanne listened carefully. The sound often caught all of their attentions. "Sounds like somebody had their nest stepped on." She sighed. It happened, and they'd have to go find the carnage when all was said and done. It was saddest when the babies were almost ready to hatch and they were trampled upon. Nobody wanted to clean that up.

Well it would be terribly amusing to see Ron and Hermione at it over Rose getting around the pair of them. Then it was kind of like seeing his mum yelling at someone else: as long as it wasn't you being yelled at, it was amusing.

Usually it was a lot better not to bring up Leanne's mum. Or most of her past unless it came to an argument of how good of a mother Leanne was. Which might be coming up as soon as lunch was finished and Chloe was napping.

Charlie just nodded a bit at Leanne's assessment. "Hopefully none of the trainers are up there and stepped on them." He frowned a bit. Some of the trainers were not exactly the most intelligent or as talented as what he was used to working with. It was better to send a shaken kid back home to reconsider his career than letting them get killed.

Then wasn't Ron always getting in trouble with Hermione anyway? Did he really need the help? Perhaps not. The man was a walking bumble accident. At least, in Leanne's mind. She'd never voice that of course, she herself had only become graceful after learning to fly around Dragons, but then she wasn't socially awkward when they were amongst people that understood them.

Charlie had long since learned that, Leanne knew, and it comforted her that he did. They were more in-tune that Leanne sometimes remembered, she had to think about that more. Maybe she wouldn't let her temper get the better of her at times.

"How can you miss a dragon egg? I know it's happened before, but honestly the things are as big as Chloe's head. It's not like they're small like chicken eggs." She shook her head. The first time she'd seen a dragon egg...wow. She'd been completely blown away. And Charlie, though non-verbal, made a very good point...and if Leanne could retort she'd only remind him that they needed good keepers out there like him...what was he doing waisting away behind a desk?

Ron just had a talent of getting into all sorts of trouble with everyone. Then he also hadn't heard from his youngest brother in a while. He might have to owl him just to see how things were going.

However Leanne without her temper would be like... Well he couldn't really think of anything, but it wouldn't be Leanne anymore.

"You go up there to steal one or more and end up getting caught by Mum. Dragon eggs are worth a good amount of gold after all." He had one little dragon still to chase after known as Pigpen after she got to playing too hard. Mostly teasingly, but Chloe was quite enough to chase after and stay in shape without wasting away.

"Romania was so much more rigorous about their screening tests for keepers to work with the babies. I wish it was like that here." She commented idly toying with a crust on her plate. It was true, here they weren't as strict as back home. "Here so many people are allowed in to the program without so much as blink. They're just so eager to find people who want to work with dragons. They don't find people who want to protect them. Where has the integrity gone?" Leanne fumed slightly.

She was throwing her feelings about things in to her annoyance at their conversation about the reserve. It was a good reserve, she knew that, there were worse out there, but still, she was annoyed sometimes at the people they brought in to work.

And currently it was easier to direct her annoyance at that, rather then at the conversation that he was refusing to have.

Chloe pushed her plate away. "I done now. Down pwease." she said looking at Charlie, her front completely wet from all the watermelon she'd been eating.

"There's always going to be poachers as well. I'm not sure I've gone over half the stories I have from Romania involving a few scars that sound tougher to claim Death Eaters did it." Most of them really weren't things to tell around children anyhow. "But they are a lot more laid back here. Anyone who's going to do this job seriously is going to go to one of the larger reserves in Romania or China. It's not an excuse, but there wouldn't be enough people to operate things if they tightened things too much." It was no wonder that some people thought they were a little insane raising their daughter around the dragon reserve there. A fair number of people did get themselves killed, but it wasn't the dragons that were dangerous. Welsh Greens were some of the calmest dragons there were, as he had pointed out several times. No one seemed to believe him.

Charlie shook his head a bit at Chloe, wiping off her face, hands, arms and at least try to water down the juice on her front a bit by wiping that as well. She'd need a bath later, but for now he just got up to pull her out of her chair in one swoop and set her down on the ground. "Want me to start taking things in for you?" He looked over at Leanne for a moment, though it was usually safer to make sure Chloe didn't try to run off to help the angry dragon.

"Poachers wouldn't ever get by in Romania." Leanne said somewhat stubbornly. It was true, at least she thought so. Then there were always people who managed to get the illegal wares away from the reserves and you had to wonder how. There were always people out there willing to make a quick buck. One of the reasons why she'd fallen in love with Charlie so hard was because he cared so much about the dragons. It was something that meant a fair bit to Leanne. They could live just as average people for the rest of their lives, but Leanne would like to think that they were both happy.

Chloe ran off immediately after being wiped down and released. It was time to burn off a bit more energy. Leanne shook her head though after a small sigh, "No, go play with your daughter. I'll clean." She wasn't...annoyed anymore. There was no point really, but this was just another example where she would miss out. She stood and started to stack their plates back on the tray she'd used to bring everything out in.

"Well that's because you have awesome keepers who seemingly never sleep and will go track them down any time of day or night... Sober or drunk." Mentioning ending up naked once seemed like a bad idea at the moment. Charlie was still very happy with his job and would have more than enough stories to tell his grandchildren one day. If they ever had grandkids, but that would be Chloe's decision. If not, someone would probably listen to him ramble on with a few details missing.

"If you're sure..." He felt bad that she had made everything and then was going to clean it all up too. They had all eaten it after all. Charlie didn't wait too long for an answer though as Chloe went darting off out of sight and he went jogging after her.
