Results In: O'Hare Elected
By Nazih Comfield, Lead Journalist
After a fortnight of many questions and far fewer answers, the election results are in. Darren O'Hare was elected with 58% of the tallied votes.
O'Hare is best known for being the Captain and Keeper of the Kenmare Kestrels and captaining the Irish National Quidditch team. Currently he is partial owner of the Kenmare Kestrels and proprietor of the Prancing Porlock in Griffenmere. Previously he has held the Directorship in the International Association of Quidditch and Federation Internationale de Quidditch Association from which he stepped down from in 2002.
O'Hare, a surprise outsider, campaigned on stricter anti-crime platform, which surprised many considering his vocal opposition of former Department of Magical Law Enforcement Head Bartemius Crouch, Sr. in his policies in the immediate aftermath of the War. However, when questioned on this discrepancy, O'Hare pointed out there was a vast difference between more aggressive penalties on unlicensed products coming into the British market or underage wizardry versus Death Eaters and sympathisers of You-Know-Who.
When asked what initiative he hoped to accomplish first, O'Hare listed several items off of his campaign manifesto, including closing the wage gap between witches and wizards, introducing tougher libel laws, and ensuring that the Independent Ireland movement no longer demand Irish succession.
O'Hare will officially take the position of Minister on 2 May 2002. The next two weeks will be used as a transitional time as Department Heads and Office Heads may be shuffled around to join in O'Hare's Office of the Minister.
