Lis' Doctor (although it's not as if Jack's not always welcome, too)
The Master had gone into the library nearest the console room, partly looking for a book and partly just looking to be by himself for a bit. When he walked past his desk and glanced at the terminal there, though, he realized that he'd left calculations running there some time ago. He'd forgotten about them, with everything else that had been going on.

He sat down at the desk and started idly playing with permutations.

    Becky's Jac k (maybe Mel's Master later?)
The Doctor was beginning to think Jack was avoiding him. Which would be fair. Very fair.

On the other hand, the Doctor was just smart enough to know that this was not going to work unless he and Jack could be in the same room and say five words to each other with out pissing each other off. Funny how he and the Master had worked that out quickly, and he didn't have a clue where to start with Jack.

Well, he did. Sort of. He went looking for Jack.

Becky's Jack, and Lis' Doctor later
The Master woke up feeling slightly claustrophobic, and carefully got out of the Doctor's bed, trying not wake him up. He felt better once he got back into his own TARDIS, but he was still a little unsettled. He went back to his room, got cleaned up, put on clean clothes, and went looking for Jack.

Becky's Jack, Mel's Master (who else?)
The Doctor tried to sleep, really he did. He didn't get past drifting in and out. Eventually he got up, paced the halls of his own TARDIS, and tried to lay down there in his room there, too. Didn't work.

He moved again, took what he considered proper tea from his kitchen, found the kitchen in the Master's TARDIS, and sat down to nurse a pot of tea. Waiting.

    It was utterly surreal.

    Lis' Doctor, Mel's Master
The TARDIS set down on a planet where a green sun burned in an orange sky, with rolling hills covered in tall 'grass' in shades of turquoise and purple. It was a gorgeous, gorgeous place, and completely benign. There weren't even any serious predators.

Jack waited until they'd settled, then tripped the signal for the Doctor at the same time as the outside monitors. "Come on," he said, with a grin. "It's gorgeous out there. Let's go enjoy it."

The Master was in the TARDIS library, surrounded by open books and the occasional star chart, with a computer terminal in reach and a pile of notes. Lots of notes. He'd been there for quite some time. He was grumbling at the book in his hands, which was being decidedly unhelpful on the subject of how exactly it was possible to stabilize a black hole. He knew the theory. He also knew that the theory would break down at some point, and that trial and error was not the way to go here.

    Jacobi!Master (...Well who else?)
They were... somewhere, and somewhen. It was night, the stars were out and, lying on his back in the feathery grass, Jack thought that looking up into that morass of stars was like looking through eternity. "You know," he said, when the door of the TARDIS opened, "you're creating light pollution." He looked away from the sky to tilt his head all the way back to look at the Master. "Come out and shut the door behind you."

Just to keep things interesting, this time it was Jack who had the nightmare.

He got the hell out of his room and moved, trying not to think about the year that wasn't and didn't even bother wondering why, after several billion years, it was haunting him now. It wasn't hard to figure out; he was traveling with the Master. He made his way to the console room, and started working on wiring. The TARDIS was in good shape but it could always be better and he had to find something to do to take his mind off those memories.

He tried not to wonder how long it would be before the Master regenerated, how long it would be before he wore the younger, prettier, and infinitely more hateful face that Jack had learned, through painful experience, to fear and hate.

The TARDIS' last jump before it refused to dematerialize again landed them on Demos, which had been right on the edges of the Time War. To its credit, it had found one of the few planets where Time Lord technology might still be found; the downside was that, if the parts they needed existed, they would have to be salvaged from wrecked spacecraft.

The Master had handled it all right at first, concentrating on finding what they needed and getting out of there, but a week's worth of compatible parts that turned out to be broken, barely compatible parts that refused to become compatible, and way too many memories had conspired against him. A week of flashbacks, nightmares if he even bothered to try and sleep, and of feeling increasingly trapped had gotten the drums so loud he could barely think, and he was furious and desperate and terrified that even if they got away from here he wouldn't get his mind back.

He hurled yet another useless stabilization component at the wall hard enough that the crystal shattered, and growled. He wasn't going back out there today. He just wasn't. He put his head down, pressed the heels of his hands against his temples, and just tried to breathe for a minute. He was sitting on the floor next to the console, and he wasn't planning on moving any time soon.

The Master's TARDIS materializes smoothly, not a lurch, not a bump, but he feels a little motion-sick anyway, after a moment. He's got both hands on the console, leaning on it harder than he wants Jack to realize. His eyes are vague and he looks as if he's listening for something. He takes a couple of breaths and then focuses on Jack and straightens up. Takes his hands off the console like he's trying to prove a point. Checks coordinates. He's right where he wanted to be, and even though it's nowhere near Gallifrey, he should still be able to...

"Where's Gallifrey?" As if Jack is personally responsible for hiding it from him.

The Professor looked up from where he was trying to figure out a way to harmonize the footprint impeller system that would actually work for the four hundred and eleventh time, rubbed his eyes and sighed. "Is it my turn to make the coffee? Because I might be able to manage that. Probably."
