Who: Marcus Flint and Dapne Greengrass
What: Marcus had a wake up cll and Daphne is in for a surprise years in the making.
When: Evening
Where: Millie's restaurant 'Escapism' in the heart of Wizarding London
Summary: Marcus spoils his longtime girlfiriend.
Rating: It's Marcus....so at least R

Marcus sat in the private dining area he had reserved with Milicent earlier.  In fact his long time confidante had just left to give him time to prepare himself.  Daphne's pregnancy scare the other night had woken him up - he was done pretending that he didn't  know what he wanted.  Or that their relationship was perfect.  It was.  He had been led to the person who he loved more than anything.  Which - yes made him a sap  but a sap in a good way - it kept Daphne near him.  He opened his wallet to a picture of her riding piggy back on his back at some festival they had gone to.  Her smile was amazing.

People would always gossip - and his attempts to regain her family manor fueled those rumors.  But he didn't give a damn.  He wanted it for her so that he could get that sad look out of her eyes when she thought of the place.  Sad looks and Daphne didn't mix in his mind.  He also didn't care that people thought she was with him for the money - ifpeople  saw how hard he had to work to get her to spend ANY of his money...there wouldn't be another rumor.

He looked at his watch and took a deep breath - it was time for her car to be arriving soon.

It wasn't completely unusual for Marcus to send Daphne some new dress and whisk her away on some sort of date, for him to not be home worried her a bit. Not that she worried he was going to leave her, she just didn't do well with things deviating from the normal routine. Her childhood had been nothing short of chaos and now she was slightly obsessive when it came to routine.

She finished curling her hair and slipped on the new dress. For a bloke, Marcus had brilliant taste, though she strongly suspected except for the lingerie he bought her, he had some help, possibly from her dark haired best friend. She slipped on her heels (because she knew how much he loved them) and then looked in the mirror. She thought she looked fine, though her childhood issues clouded her perception of herself. Marcus had helped heal a lot of those wounds, but the scars would never go away.

She made her way outside and into the car service. It was highly unusual for them to use a magical car service, but the whole night seemed strange. She didn't think too much about it, because she knew that it would just drive her batty. She twisted the bracelet on her wrist, a gift for her birthday from Marcus. He really was good to her.

When the car stopped, the driver let her out and she blinked. If she remembered, this was Millie's new place. She smiled and walked inside, and was quickly whisked back to a private room. She saw her Marcus and smiled. "You know, I think I am getting a bit better at this letting you spoil me bit."

Marcus grinned at her a bit wickedly and nodded, "You are. There wasn't an owl once asking me if I was sure I wanted to spend the money. Baby steps Daph."

When they had started dating, he had had to fight her pride alot when it came to buying her things. Normally girls loved pricey presents and such - but with Daphne Marcus had had to learn an entirely new method of courting.

It had been rocky a few times - but he had learned. It made nights like this a bit more special - because she let him go all out without trying to see the reciepts. He still had hidden them just to be sure.

He held out the chair and kissed her softly, "Have a seat princess." Now that Daphne was here - Marcus' nerves were calming down.

Daphne smirked, "You weren't home for me to complain to, Marcus and you didn't even leave me time to get an owl sent." Truthfully the thought had crossed her mind, but she had let it go. The scare had changed things a bit between them. She was trying to just let things come between them. She didn't need a ring to prove anything between them anymore.

In fact, he didn't know it, but she was merging their vaults in the morning. He had been bugging her to do it since they bought the house, but she was always worried about his family, and how they considered her after his money. It was the last thing she wanted.

Daphne sat down and then kissed him, her delicate fingers brushing his cheek. "Thank you for the dress, really. You always seem to know what I like, love."

"Well, the dress I had help with. You bribe Millie with getting her away from paperwork and wonderful things happen." Her smile made him smirk,"I am glad between her and I we can figure you out love."

Her life had been hard - he wanted to take care of her - of Astoria. He wanted to make sure that they never had to worry or deal with that mess again. Maybe she wad finally coming around to his way of thinking. If she trusted him that way - he was already far ahead of where he thought he was with her and her defenses.

"Since we known the owner - she has taken te privelege of giving us a chef directed menu - with your favorite for desert I am told." He opened a bottle of wine - her favorite red and let it breathe.

"Well, it probably helps she saw me looking at it last time we were shopping." She hadn't bought it because she didn't have a reason to wear it. Daphne was always very careful with her money, and even more so with Marcus's. Buying their house had proven a huge test of their relationship. She had finally given in, but only after a long discussion.

"Well, I trust her. She's brilliant with this kind of thing." She reached across the table and rested her hand on his. Three years together, and he still made her heart skip a beat when he kissed her. He was her best friend, her biggest supporter and the only person in her life she trusted completely except for Astoria.

She ran her thumb over his knuckles, and gave him a smile. "I'm glad we are home for at least a few days this week."

Marcus had house elves in their home at the moment setting up their master bedroom to look like the room at their hotel in Morrocco the first and only time he had whisked her off without asking her first. She had loved the simly luxury.

Three years and he still couldn't believe a witch like her would want to be with a wizard such as him - Marcus knew his past wasn't the most sparkly clean of anyone's but she still picked him. He shook his head as Daphne's favorite starter came out.

"And so the mean begins..." His eyes twinkled, "And there is more to this evening than just dinner..."

Had Daphne known that the house elves were in her house, she might have been upset, but ignorance was bliss for her right now. She loved being able to take care of him. Truthfully, she would feel lost without being able to take care of him. She had never had a point in her life where she wasn't responsible for someone else. At least Marcus never took it for granted. He always seemed to be so happy at the smallest things.

Her eyebrows rose when he mentioned it being more than dinner. She snagged a piece of calamari and looked at him. "I know we were going to talk about what happened this weekend." She hoped he had not changed his mind. The thought of having a baby had been something she had thought about all day. She didn't even care if they got married.

But she wouldn't say no if he asked.

"Well, there is that talk to." He sipped his wine and set the glass down, "I havne't changed my mind. I want a family and a life with you Daph, I want to have a little girl like you that will be just as amazing as her mother." His fingers traced patterns on her hand.

"The other night just got me thinking is all. We will get to it all in time. Promise." His eyes looked into hers with a grin and a small smirk teased the corners of his lips.

He did want a family. He wanted her to be his wife and he wanted children. He wanted it all.

His words made her heart melt. "I want a son who is a stubborn and brave and amazing as his father." Her eyes were full of happiness, and she genuinely felt like her heart could explode at any moment. "A little girl, too. I know we are going to have it, Marcus." She squeezed his hand and smiled at him.

The other night had her thinking as well. It even had her planning what a nursery would look like next to their bedroom instead of a spare bedroom. She even caught herself thinking about adding a conservatory, and moving Marcus's exercise equipment there, so he had somewhere bright to work out and private if they had kids.

"Though, I admit I don't quite feel like I want to wait another five or six years like I did."

"If you want a son like me - let's pray to Salazar he gets your brains love - it will make his life ten times easier." Marcus had never really goteen over the embarrassment of being held back a year. He acted like he had and he joked about it - but it was somethe he hated about himself.

He lifted her hand and kissed her knuckles, "You won't be waiting that long princess. I promise."

"You are smart, Marcus. You just tend to get a bit distracted by things that you are passionate about." She had seen him completely blow off everything when he was stressed about a game, and only be able to focus on how he was playing. Of course, she always knew how to bring him out of it, though that usually involved lace and satin and a certain thing she could do for him.

"When we decide to do that, we should plan it so the baby comes during the off season. I really would want you home, especially since you know your mother would insist on being there." She squeezed his hand again, the excitement evident in her eyes.

"You and my mother alone in the house together is NOT something I want to walk into unprepared." He had never gotten why his mother didn't like Daphne - but whenever se knew they wereboth showing up somewhere together for the first year or so - she would have someone else there for him. It took a huge fight with her and then ignoring her for a month to make her see that he was with Daphne and she wasn't changing that.

They still didn't really get along well.

"Off season. That is a definite must. I don't want to miss those first few months. If we are going to loose sleep and be new parents - we should do it together." He grinned as a waiter brought out salads and refreshed their wine.

"I'm glad we changed the wards so she can't come over unannounced anymore." Marcus really had no idea just how nasty his mother could be with Daphne when he wasn't around. The woman was convinced she was only after Marcus's money, and nothing she did could possibly ever convince the woman otherwise. Daphne had tried, really tried the first two years, but she had finally given up, deciding it was no longer her problem.

"If you are home for the first few months, then he or she should be old enough to travel once the season starts." Daphne had been working it over in her head. She wasn't going to give up being his manager, and like hell would she stop traveling with her boyfriend. "I might even let you talk me into a house elf to help."

Marcus raised a brow, "Now I know Millie spiked your wine. That or the world is ending. Did you just say that you would let me get you a house elf to help?" His grin was teasing, "You mean you might let me spend my money on something for you?"

He nodded, "I would want you both with me. I would worry and miss too much when I was gone." It might be selfish - but Quidditch was one of he things he was good at an it made them both money. If he could last a few more years - there would be enough saved so that Daphne could go on as many sprees as she wanted and they wouldn't have to work anymore.

It wouldn't happen - they would both be nuts in a week or two - but the option would be there.

Daphne smirked and raised her hand up, "It wouldn't be for me, Marcus. It would be for our future son or daughter, and unfortunately I can not think of a single reason why I should stop you from taking care of our children." She could justify that in her mind, because it wouldn't be about her.

Besides, she was going to make their vaults a joint vault soon enough, even if she wouldn't stop being meticulous about money. She knew they would never really go without, but it still did not make her cautious, just in case. The danger of loving a quidditch player is injury, and he could lose his career.

"You know I don't sleep well in that house alone. I get cold and I tend to feel disoriented if you aren't there." Which was further proof that she needed him, and that he was her security and safety net.

Marcus shook his head and slid a peice of parchment across the table towards her, "Daphne, in the interest of full disclosure...I have a confession to make." He cleared his throat, "I have a rainy day fund that you havne't seen. I could not be able to play tomorrow and we would be fine." The parchment revealed that he had made sure their lives were financially secure.

"I hate sleeping alone - I never know what to do when no one is stealing all my covers and puttig her cold feet on me. I don't know how the rest of you can be warm and your feet are cold as sin." He chuckled and nibbled on his salad.

Daphne bit her bottom lip and examined the parchment. It was, to be honest, more money than she had ever seen in her life. He had made some very shrewd investments, and she was impressed. She glanced up at him, then back at the parchment. Truthfully, the fact he had done this scared her a bit. She didn't want to need to depend on him, but here was proof she could. She was fighting a war within herself, and her love for him was winning.

Her salad was completely ignored now, and she blinked. "It will be nice to know any children we have will always be taken care of." She still could not quite justify in her mind why he would need to take care of her. She loved him, she trusted him, but she didn't trust fate. It had taken far too much from her.

His final statement made her laugh, "It's a natural gift women have to keep their boyfriends confused. Besides, you always steal my pillows." She finally picked at her salad, happy, but still something was nagging at her a bit. Why was he showing this to her now?

"But if I steal yours then you have to use me as yours. It's an age old byfriend trick to keep your girlfriend close so that when they steal your blankets you can still you can stay warm."

"Not just the kids. YOU." Marcus rolled his eyes and sighed, "YOU are taken care of - which is what I am the most concerned about. You, at the moment and later our children, are my main concern."

Daphne pulled back from him, looking a bit uncomfortable. Yes, she knew on an intellectual level that Marcus would never leave her, he loved her and he wanted to take care of her, but she was so used to taking care of herself, she had a hard time letting go.

She looked across the table at him, "I'm trying, Marcus. I'm just scared. You know that I love you, and that I trust you." She picked at her salad even more, feeling like an arse. Why was she doing this? She was doing the one thing that she loved him for not doing.

She stood up and walked over to him, running her fingers through his hair. "Thank you. I know you've worked hard for this, and it means so much that you have planned for our future." She leaned down and kissed him softly. She was still terrified, but baby steps. She could at least graciously accept the enormous gift he was giving her, that he was giving their future.

Marcus kissed her back and felt a bit of the weight lift from his shoulders. She hasn't killed him for keeping someting from her like this. But he wanted to show her that he had thought ahead - planned for them long into the future.

It was all paving the way for the big talk later.

He pulled her into his lap and offered a bite of his salad, "Now this is much better."

The thought of killing him for keeping this from her was the furthest thing from her mind. She was touched, and was doing a good job of swallowing her pride and fear. She even enjoyed being pulled into his lap. She felt safe there, and he knew that.

She took the bite and brushed his cheek with her fingers. "I'm merging our vaults tomorrow." If he was bringing out the secrets, so was she.

Marcus had to admit he was stunned. He had been afer her to bite the bullet and just do that since they bought the house. They paid all thei blls together and they were constantly moving money from one vault to another and it was silly to him.

"You are?" He nodded and tightened his arms around her, resting his chin on her shoulder and grinned, trying to lighten the mood a bit, "I like you being in my lap - I want you here as often as possible."

Daphne nodded, pressing her lips to his forehead. "If we are going to have a child together, it would be silly to add extra trips to Gringot's to what will be a very full schedule." She was rationalizing it, of course, but it was helping her get through this.

Daphne snuggled closer to him, "I like being in your lap, and I always seem to be able to find an excuse. Especially when there are other girls trying to get your attention." Daphne was rarely jealous, but she had to admit, she enjoyed showing off the fact her was hers.

"I know...but I like the look on your face when I say it." Marcus took a deep breath and set a small blue and white box on the table, "I have a present for you princess. Something that when I saw it I thought of you."

Him shopping at Tiffany's for her wasn't anything new. When they had bought the house - her key ring had been from there - as had the one when he had given her a key to his house before. She had numerous peices from teh store of the years.

But never a diamond ring. Rings with diamond on them yes - but this ring was one that would be very special.

She wasn't going to fight him on whatever he had bought her this time. She knew it meant a lot to him to be able to give her things, and she would accept whatever he had for her semi-graciously. Unless he had gone out and bought her something too extravagant. Then she might complain. He'd probably worry if she didn't.

However this box was ring shaped, and she was a bit nervous. She looked at him. "Do I get to open it?" She could feel a slightly nervous vibe from him, and it worried her a bit.

Well, he wasn't dropping to one knee, so this wasn't an engagement ring, not that she expected one. She kissed him again, and then reached for the box. She was sure it was beautiful, and something she would love. He had learned what she liked years ago.

She picked up the box and opened it and her jaw dropped. She looked at Marcus, and then back at the ring and then back at her boyfriend. She was completely speechless and shocked, but it was a very happy shock. "Marcus?" she asked, her voice trembling just a bit.

She smirked, "And can we not tell your mother until we are done? I don't think I can stand her trying to plan a huge wedding for us." Or worse, trying to find Marcus another wife.

His mind was racing where they could go, "Maybe in a few weeks on the next break you and I can go somewhere and get married. Without the media and my mother...and the media..."

She put her planner on the table, and wrapped her arms around his waist. "You know, if we are merging our vaults, it would make sense if you stopped paying me. It would actually make our taxes lower once we got married, and it's all going into the same vault."

marcus raised a brow. Being his manager was demanding. He wasn't a prima donna sports player. But it was a demanding profession. He looked at her, "Babe...managing my career is a hard job. I don't want to take advantage of my wife."

He got thoughtful for a moment, "End of season - I want to enjoy our wedding and honeymoon. I can't do that till the season is over."

Daphne raised an eyebrow, "Think of it this way. If you don't pay me, I can't argue that I need to spend my money on things. Besides, I am only trying to do what is best for us financially."

She nodded, picking up the book and noting it. "Two weeks, all for us. We can decide on a location later, though it's only six weeks off." She was slipping into manager mode.

Marcus took the planner, gave them three weeks and then tossed it off to the side, "No more busines tonight. I just got the sexiest witch in the world to agree to marry me. I want to celebrate."

He grinned and kissed her, feelg like he had after their first date, like he was on top of the world. He pulled her close, "Does this mean I can keep you then Miss Greengrass...forever?"

Daphne laughed and kissed him, "Fine, fine. No more business. And I finally got the love of my life to ask, and so I guess we should celebrate."

She knew they would finish this dinner and then there would be a completely different kind of celebration once they got home.

Marcus grinned at her wickedly and whispered a silencing charm around their dining area and pulled her into a long slow kiss. All he cared about right now was kissing Daphne and making sure she knew he adored every last inch of his bride to be.

Millicent would understand.

Daphne didn't mind at all, and returned the kiss, her arms wrapping tightly around her soon to be husband. He felt warm and safe and she never wanted anyone else. Truthfully, she was half tempted to apparate them home so she could show him just exactly how much she wanted him.

Millicent would understand.
