It's like I knew you before (Molly)
He didn't know what happened. It wasn't like when he'd been transferred to the City, either. He'd just woken up there, not knowing. Lost. Angry. Very angry. With the club in hand and nothing else. Of course, it hadn't taken him long to adapt to his new home, and even find ways to enjoy it. This time, though, this time didn't look like it was going to be much like that at all.

At one moment, he was on the path to finding Baba's cabin. The next, he was in some forest. At first he'd thought the City had changed around him, and that he'd be able to find his way back out easily, if not with a little frustration. But after a few minutes of running - which had actually taken him a lot further than it would have for any human, Eric discovered that this forest didn't have an end. A brief jolt upwards to see, and he was more than sure of it.

Thinking over what had happened, how he'd come to be here, Eric recalled the brief few moments when he had felt neither Pam nor Baba. And yet, he could feel them now. They were not with him, of course, but they were here. Wherever here was. He would have to find them both.

From above the treeline, Eric had seen something that looked like a ramshackle camp. Thrown together with parts of other places. He headed in that direction now, on foot. He wanted to get a feel of this situation before showing his hand. There was a small chance that in this place there were others like him, and they didn't need to know that he could walk in the sun. That was dangerous for everybody involved.

When he came upon the section of woods that held what he'd seen from above, Eric slowed. He smelled the signs of human life, but didn't see anybody right away. Of course, that meant nothing. People hid all the time.

Things were getting back to normal for Molly. She'd gotten past her incident with the vampires, was back on her feet at full strength. That meant she was back to patroling Magnetoville. She would never, ever call it that out loud. Erik would kill her.

She and Erik both had protections around the little shanty town which included alert systems to let them know when someone they weren't familiar with approached the perimeter. One of those alerts triggered all along Molly's wizard senses, and she sneered a little before wrapping a veil tightly around her to go check it out.

She was The Best at veils. She was able to keep even other wizards from sensing her when she didn't want them to. She'd never asked, but she was pretty sure she even blocked out Erik. So she felt confident getting right out there to get a look at this guy, and her eyes narrowed as she recognized him. What the hell was he doing out of his city?

"What do you want?" Her voice came from everywhere and nowhere. It was a side talent of hers. Illusion, and she was just as good at that as she was with veils.

Eric glanced around, he saw nothing. Nobody. He knew, though, that he wasn't alone here in this forest. He could feel the magic, and the voice hadn't come from that far off. The words hadn't been shouted from a distance, it was as if they were immediately nearby.

"Just trying to figure out where I am and how I got here." He turned his head slowly, there weren't meany creatures that could move faster than he could see, but there were some, and he wasn't ready to discount them being here in this place.

Whatever this place was.

He didn't really want to have to fight immediately upon entering a new world, but given the state of this one that he'd seen from above, he wasn't going to take bets on being able to walk away untouched.

Molly blinked. How could he not know where he was? Geez, they weren't that far away when they met right after the faeries showed up, so what the heck was going on!

"Did you hit your head?" Molly made sure to keep on the move just in case he could triangulate through her vocal illusion. "You know exactly where you are and I'm not buying it, freak."

"No." Eric turned slowly in a circle, unable to track anything at all. The voice seemed to him to be coming from different places, and the only thing he could pick up on was that magic was being used, which wasn't very helpful at all.

"I don't, actually, know where I am." But this was a strange line of questioning, wasn't it? Somehow, her statements made him feel even more wary of where he was and what he was doing there. "I was in the park... a park, and found myself here. In this desolate shithole of a world."

He scanned the treeline in silence for a long beat. Still nothing. "Why should you think I know where I am. That's the real question."

She didn't trust this guy period, and she wondered for a moment if she should get Erik, but he didn't seem to be doing anything other than be weird. Molly could handle weird. If it got weirder then she'd get Erik involved.

"Well that's a colorful way of describing it, but some of us call it home." She wasn't about to answer his questions, but it was obvious he wasn't going to answer any of hers. Willingly, anyway. She decided to switch tactics.

"Come on, what happened?" She brushed her mind against his. Not a complete invasion, just enough to sense his surface thoughts to see if when he answered they were colored with lies. "They got tired of your rule, kicked you out and this is your way of living in denial?"

Some called it home, did they? Eric couldn't help but feel sorry for them. He wasn't ready to say that about himself, just yet. He wasn't ready to give up on the idea that somehow he'd get back to the City. First, he had to find out what the hell was going on, though.

"Rule?" Eric shook his head. "I haven't spent any second of my life living in any kind of denial thus far, I think now would be a very strange time to start."

Not finding anybody else in the forest with him, despite the voice talking to him, Eric stopped moving and just stood absolutely still.

Nothing on his surface thoughts registered as a lie. Molly was tempted to look deeper, but she could well imagine the look on Carlos' face if she did. She frowned in frustration. Lea wouldn't have stopped her. Lea would have encouraged her. Lea was also a psychotic twat waffle.

"You are Eric Northman, right?" She paced a little closer, not within reach, wanting to see if there were any lingering spells or traces of magic on him. There could be another wizard come to town that could have altered his memory. Molly would be able to pick up on the magical fingerprints easily since she left her own when dabbling in mind magics.

"I am." Eric didn't even try to keep the surprise out of his voice. He didn't know the creature that was talking to him, of this he was sure. He would have remembered something like this, how could he not? He was being spoken to by a magical disembodied voice.

Perhaps if he hadn't lived as long as he had, that would have disturbed him more than a little bit.

"I'd ask how you know that, but I'm guessing you're not ready to reveal your hand, or you would have said something by now."

"Look at the big brain on Eric." She had been able to watch Pulp Fiction before coming into her magic. Couple that with being the apprentice to Harry Dresden and she was apt at the sarcastic movie quotes.

She paced around until she was in front of him, still not within reach. He hadn't done anything more than talk. She had expected more from him based on the rumors she'd heard. He hadn't exactly been polite when she'd met him before, so this was beginning to bug her. Either he really was Eric and had something done to him, or this was a new Eric. Either option was possible, she supposed. Which meant that either way he needed answers and help. Son of a bitch! If she knew what he was she wouldn't even consider it, though. She'd just blast him.

She almost wished he was a wizard. She could get promises from him that would bind him that she could believe. Damn it! She should call for Erik! Let him deal with this! "You said a park. What else?"

Not being one into movies, Eric missed her reference entirely. Though he didn't miss the tone of voice she'd said it in. It put him a little on edge, thinking that a disembodied voice could say pretty much anything it wanted to and not have to worry about the repercussions of it. But he managed to calm himself back down.

"The park is in the middle of the City. Most of the time, anyway. Much like Central Park in New York, a green landscape in the midst of all the buildings. I was looking for something, then the scenery changed. I tried going back out the way I'd come, only it wasn't the same. Leaving entirely just revealed to me the wasteland beyond." He wasn't sure what else he could say here. What the voice was looking for.

"Is your entire world this way? Forest and then what looks like the end of the world?"

What he was saying struck a chord within Molly's head and she grumbled out a curse under her breath. The world was bringing in dopplegangers now. "...son of a bitch."

She grit her teeth together as she ran a hand over her face and tried to figure out exactly how to handle this. Little steps. Little steps were good. Fine.

She dropped the veil enough to be seen, but she had as strong a shield in place as she could whip up. "Yeah, the whole world is like this. Welcome to Zombieland."

Eric processed what was said to him. That the whole world was like this. He discovered himself very unhappy with this fact. It meant that a lot of things would be lacking. Modern conveniences that he enjoyed. He could only hope that other things were still in place. Like showers.

"Oh good."

Looking around once more, Eric frowned as the voice materialized into a person. She wasn't what he'd been expecting at all. Though he knew that appearances could deceive, and she had enough power in her to almost completely cloak herself from a vampire. Almost, because he'd been able to sense the magic. Other than that, though, he would have thought he was alone.

So while she didn't look like much, Eric was going to remain careful. At least now he knew she wasn't a fairy. That could have been bad for the both of them.

"Nice to see you aren't just a voice without a body. I have yet to run into one, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there, and I think I'm pretty done with fresh new experiences today."

She gave a quiet snort of derision with a matching smirk on her face. "If you see a grin without a cat, Alice, you better run for the rabbit hole."

She didn't trust him. Everything within her said not to trust him, get as far away from him as possible. She wasn't sure why, but as far as she was concerned this was as close as he was going to get to her and the little town she protected.

"Maybe you better go looking for a hookah smoking caterpiller now."

"So full of clever quips. Coping mechanism?" Eric didn't feel like playing games. He wanted information. He wanted to know where to go. What to avoid. The things that he would be dealing with. If this girl - whatever she was - didn't feel like providing that, then he would be forced to seek out somebody else. If there was anybody else, of course.

He glossed over the things she'd said, "Are there others here in this world, or do I get to look forward to a future with you as my only source of entertainment?"

Though Eric was hoping with everything he had in him that this wasn't going to be a permanent arrangement.

She snorted and ignored the sarcasm he shot back at her, then smirked because she saw an oppportunity here.

"Oh yeah," she nodded in mock seriousness. "Plenty of people." Her smirk grew. "Including another you, and he isn't liked too well." Let's see what he made of that!

"I had this nagging feeling you were going to say something along those lines." There was no other reason for her to have acted the way that she had toward him, to know him and not just by name.

"Not too well liked, me, I would have never guessed."

Though, he had to admit he was curious what it would be like to meet himself. He could see it going very badly. Or very well.

"So point me in the right direction, then."

No way was Molly sending this guy into die Festung. A different him or not, she had a responsibility to keep people safe. She didn't really want to follow him around all the time either. Decisions, decisions.

They weren't very hard. Molly pointed back in the direction he came from, deeper into the fae forest. "That way. Bye now! Don't let the proverbial door hit you in the ass on the way out."

Eric turned and looked at the forest the way he'd come from. He wasn't sure if he should trust the girl, somebody who had been that snarky upon first meeting another warm - ish - body could be the kind who would lead people off in stray directions, but it wasn't like he had a whole lot of choice.

"So friendly. Why are you in the forest alone?"

He had another quick look around before starting back. In the end, he supposed, he could take another flight skyward and see if he could see anything if he felt like he was getting too lost.

She would not only send him astray, but she'd tell the fae there was prime pickings wandering around the forest. She hadn't like the other him. She didn't like this version of him. Trust wasn't even a thought.

"Aw. I'm all broke up inside." Her smile was as sarcastic as her tone, even if she could make it look adorable and sweet with a tilt of her head and a bat of her lashes.

As for his question, her smile became a little more feral. "You might call me the sheriff in these parts."
