New. Again. (dF - open)
Jesse was leaving the waffle place that Fred had introduced him to, turning to smile back at the waitress and give her a wave. He'd been flirting the whole time, and she'd enjoyed it. Nothing would come of it, and he didn't pretend that it would. She'd been aware, as far as he knew, that it was just flirting. She hadn't even tried to slip him her number at the end of his meal. Maybe he was just in there enough that now all the girls knew who he was and that he was just like that.
His hand dipped into his pocket to get his pack of cigarettes and he paused on the sidewalk to light up. As much as Zoe hated him doing this, he just couldn't bring himself to stop. It was a vice he enjoyed quite a bit. Though he had cut back on the drinking a good deal. Compromise. Zoe'd never really complained about the drinking, but he was going to count it anyway.
Something felt off as he was managing his smoke, and when he finally looked up, flipping the zippo closed and pocketing it again, he realized why. This was not a street he was familiar with, because this was not the City.
Curious, and somewhat irritated, Jesse reached out to find the creature he'd been a citizen of for so many long years and his eyes were drawn to the sky. He could see what appeared to be some kind of comet, but he knew in his gut that it was the City up there. He wondered what it was doing, and what the hell had happened to cause him to be down here. Had the City dumped him off somewhere finally? Was it some kind of accident?
This world didn't feel taken care of at all, Jesse could feel the concerns and needs of the people around him, it was all stronger than anything he'd ever experienced before.
"Well. Ain't this a fuckin bitch."
