An Actual Intro
My name is Ayla Wolffe, I am 39 and I have been a practicing Heathen for somewhere around 15+ years. I am a gydthia of a Kindred in Columbus, Ohio called Kindred of the Nine Worlds. We are very accepting of folks of all kinds, as long as they do not practice hate, that is the one thing we don't accept. I am the non-custodial mother of two sons, one of whom has just graduated High School and is preparing for College. He went to France and returned with a lot of wonderful and not so wonderful experiences. My younger son is extremely musically talented, and plays 3 instruments go him! He is section leader for two different permutations of band on different instruments.
How did I end up founding this community and what is relevant here? Hrm. Well I love folklore of all kinds and have a general folklore community as well as this one it is called fansoffolklore if anyone has the desire to check it out. I have been studying varied kinds of folklore for a long, long time. But I began to specialize somewhere around ten or twelve years ago I guess. Mainly because there is so much lore we have yet to uncover or discuss. The Eddas have so many interpretations that people argue endlessly, sometimes with way too much vehemence for my taste. There are tons of people out there who will tell you that the Eddas don't matter if you've read the Sagas and that is what you need to concentrate your time on... So I started tracking down Sagas... Fun to read, but hard to afford a large amount of them on my budget(I'm on S.S.I. as I am disabled), others will tell you that all of this is not worth your time concentrate on Saxo and so forth. So as you can see there is a lot of ground to be covered. Frankly the best way to really do this is not to try and do it alone. So the first rainbowbridge was born on livejournal.
But it wasn't really going anywhere. Poeple didn't offer up any really big insights and it descended into me posting most of my norse/scandinavian oriented poetry on the community in a vain effort to keep the community alive. When I made the switch to insanejournal I asked to see if people wanted to maintain the community and it was dead. I killed the community entirely determined to start over here. I also think that relevant articles about the history of Scandinavia and the Anglo-Saxons have a place on this community as they give us insight into the way in which those about whom the lore is written may have lived. This is why such articles are being posted here.
I know this is probably a very long intro about myself, but this is me, this is who I am and why I founded this place. I hope that it will be a place that makes folks enjoy the lore, and discourse upon the lore will take place. I would hope to foster a sense of wonder and learning such as I have kept within myself over the years, in fact that sense has never flagged but has grown in proportion to my studies. It seems to me that at times I have changed direction here and there but that is not unheard of, it keeps a kind of avidness alive. If there is anything I have not said of myself that you would want to know, please ask, I will try to be forthcoming.
In Troth,
