Who: Oliver Wood & Lia Moon
What: Mistletoe Challenge
Where: A door or so down from The Snitch
When: Around 5:30 pm on Monday
Rating/Status: PG-13 tops most likely / Incomplete

Things had been insanely busy lately for Lia. She felt like herself and Lincoln had been running off their feet trying to keep up with everything and everyone. The Snitch was a popular place and they ended up hosting a ton of Christmas parties, which was great, but a lot of work. Most of the Quidditch teams decided to host theirs there and Lia was excited but nervous all at the same time for it. It was hard not to be nervous. The amount of famous people hanging about the Snitch lately was a little overwhelming. It wasn’t that Lia cared much about who was and wasn’t famous, it was the level of demanding that started to get to her.

Lia’s opinion of famous players had changed a lot sense opening the pub. Of course she was close to Ade, but that was different she knew him on a different level. It was the players that acted like everyone owed them something because they were famous, or the ones that would talk down to her as if she was lesser of a person for not being famous. The number of times she’d actually gotten angry (which was rare for her) shocked her a little bit. Still, it was a business and there were always the really great famous players at all that were always kind to her. Even though some of them confused her, she liked it when people were kind rather than rude.

“Linc, I’m going to head to the bakery to pick up the order for tonight.” She called out referring to the holiday party that was there that night. She wasn’t even sure he was there, but it was always better to tell him she was going than not. Lia could really use getting some fresh air, and it was strange how it didn’t quiet feel like Christmas yet. She was ready for some snow and some hot coco and relaxing by a fire reading a good book or just watching the snowfall.

Her mind had been running around in circles about the party coming in that night, Wigtown Wanderers. She didn’t know the players as well on that team as she did others but she hadn’t really heard much about them. Hopefully they’d be nice. Grabbing her blue zip-up she pulled it on as she wrapped a Falcons scarf around her, one Ade gave to her at some point. Opening the wooden door to the pub she took in the crisp air letting it calm her. Crisp air always had a magical power to it, or so Lia always thought it did.

Turning in the direction of the bakery she took a few hundred steps before she found herself completely and utterly stuck. For a moment Lia flinched at the thought of whomever was behind her and how abruptly she had stopped. The likelihood that whomever it was could stop in time to not run into her seemed unlikely.

If Oliver had to go to Diagon Alley one more time this week he was honestly going to kill someone. And then present their dead body to his parents for Christmas. He had promised himself that today would be the last time and if he didn't get something he needed? Well, fuck it. Honestly. Just fuck it. Fuck Christmas and fuck anyone and everyone who enjoyed it. Oliver was not a Christmassy person and he had no intention in becoming one. It was an awful holiday that made you stay at home with your mental parents and listen to their judgments about your life. And it meant you had to go Christmas shopping. And if there was one thing Oliver hated more than spending time with his family at Christmas it was getting them presents in the fucking packed Diagon Alley.

He was so preoccupied in self misery, that Oliver didn't notice Lia until he had already run into her. He tried to take a step back in order to apologize, 'tried' being the operative word. Oliver was stuck. He was genuinely stuck and there was a bloody mistletoe hanging above his head. This holiday had officially just become even worse. Not that he minded the pretty girl - who he kind of recognised? Oliver really wasn't sure where he knew her from - but this was just ridiculous. Whoever invented bloody mistletoe deserved a slow and painful death.

"Hi," Oliver said, trying very hard not to take out all of his frustrations on the poor girl who clearly was not at fault. "I'm really sorry about running into you," he added genuinely before giving a huge sigh. "Don't take this the wrong way, but... can I kiss you?" Which did sound quite, well, eh, dodgy. It sounded like one of those really awful pick up lines that never worked on anyone. So in order to make it better Oliver pointed upwards. "So both of us can leave, I mean."

If Lia could turn any redder she was pretty sure she’d be glowing. Of course she knew who Oliver Wood was, she owned a Quidditch pub, his name was pretty common. She glanced up at him trying desperately hard not to turn any redder as her eyes caught the mistletoe as he was talking. Lia wasn’t angry with him, it wasn’t as though he’d done anything wrong, unless he’d placed the mistletoe there on purpose but from the look he had she highly doubted it.

If she were only better with men would she be able to just laugh and kiss him and wave it off as some interesting story to tell her mates later. The problem being that Lia was never that girl and never would be that girl made this all even more awkward. “It’s okay. It’s not your fault. I should have been watching where I was going.” Which was true, although the likelihood that she would have been looking up was pretty slim. It wasn’t like she was worried about icicles falling down and hitting her, so why would she be looking up as she walked through Diagon Alley.

“Um.” She started feeling completely hopeless and knowing the only answer she could say was yes, but that felt even more awkward. Great way to kiss a bloke right? Get stuck under mistletoe and have be something that was of necessity instead of desire. Lia wasn’t really the type to worry about things much, but she was human and the thought did run through her mind when the last time she kissed someone was. “Yeah, sure.” She said feeling sort of well, sad was the best way to put it. It wasn’t like she had ever thought about kissing anyone that morning and she was thinking too much. Now all she had to do was look up and wait for what was sure to be insanely awkward to let both of them free.

Today just wasn’t going to go well was it?

She seemed awkward. Which made Oliver feel guilty. He wasn't quite sure why it made him feel guilty since none of this was his fault, if anything the stupid holidays were at fault, but still. He felt like there was something he should've done instead of asking her if he could kiss her, but it wasn't exactly like he could take her out for drinks and dinner first. And they were going to be stuck under this stupid bloody leaf (was mistletoe a leaf?) unless they kissed. None of these facts made Oliver feel less guilty about the absolutely sad look the blonde woman was giving him. Bollocks. How did Oliver always end up in the most awkward of situations?

"Um," he paused for a moment. "This really isn't a good time to ask this, I realise that," Oliver said almost mumbling. "But would you go out for a drink with me? After this," he asked, because, well. She was pretty and what he could tell from three sentences, nice, too. And there was the fact that Alicia kept going on about how he should date. It was hard to date someone when you never asked anyone out. What better time than just before you kiss them to be released from under a mistletoe, right? "We could consider this a reverse date," Oliver finally offered with a small smile playing on his lips. It wasn't often that Oliver smiled but he did want to make her feel better.

With a slight shrug, Oliver brought his hands up, to cup the woman's face. He then leaned down a bit, to press his lips against hers. It was a soft kiss but it definitely wasn't a very awkward one. Oliver figured that if he was going to kiss her in order to get away from mistletoe he might as well do it well. And she was very attractive, which helped. There was no tongue involved in this kiss, because she was a stranger and that would make this awkward, but as far as soft and sweet kisses go? Oliver thought he had done quite okay. Once pulling back, he gave her another smile, his hands still on her cheeks.

Of all the things Lia was expecting being asked out was the last thing on her mind. For some reason the way he seemed to ask her out and admit it probably wasn’t a good time made her let out a soft friendly laugh and actually smile. Well, it wasn’t bad and she could always owl the bakery to bring the order. “Sure. I’d like that.” She said sort of surprised with her answer considering this wasn’t really what she was expecting. Lia was actually expecting a kiss and dash moment from either of them. Awkward situations and all weren’t exactly the most fun after all. Lia wasn’t sure why she added the fact that she’d like it. Perhaps because it would be a lot easier to know someone a little better having kissed them. Lia wasn’t the type that could just kiss a bloke and not want to at least talk for a couple of moments. It seemed like a good idea.

She’d be lying to herself if she told herself her heart wasn’t beating fast from the strange situation she was on. As his hands reached her cheeks she felt one of her own go to his side, perhaps out of balance, perhaps as it seemed natural. She was surprised as the kiss wasn’t nearly as awkward and well bad as she thought it’d be. It was actually really nice, it was kind and unlike what she had expected that she actually smiled as she looked back up to him. He seemed really kind, and actually wanted to make this less awkward for both of them. Lia appreciated it more than she was probably ever going to be able to communicate to him.

“I’m Lia.” She said after a beat, figuring he probably had no idea who she was. Why would he after all? Her name wasn’t plastered all over the place with rumors and lies going on about her.

She had said yes, which truly surprised Oliver. It shouldn't have, of course, because he was an attractive man and a famous one at that but it still did. Oliver really didn't have the self confidence to be on the same league as people like Adrian Pucey and Roger Davies, who were clearly quite aware that they were attractive. Instead, Oliver gave her a somewhat shy look and then smiled when she introduced herself to him. Her name really didn't ring any bells to Oliver but then again he neither read the papers nor interacted with people.

"I'm Oliver," he introduced himself back, without even considering the fact that she already knew who he was. The spell broke around them and suddenly Oliver could take a step back. Being so close in someone's personal space felt, well, odd to him. He did attempt another smile, mind you. This was probably the most he had smiled the whole day. "So, that drink?" He said, before looking around them.

They had a few options but Oliver felt that it really was for Lia to choose. "We can go to a cafe or the Snitch, whatever you want. Or we can do this another time," he added, suddenly realising that maybe she was busy. After all, there was a reason why she was in Diagon Alley on a busy Monday. Oliver really didn't want to make this more akward than necessary but he was absolutely shite at going on dates with anyone. In fact, he couldn't even remember the last time he had gone on a date.

“It’s nice to meet you Oliver.” Regardless of the fact that Lia did indeed know who he was, it would be odd to tell him that, besides as far as she knew she hadn’t really talked to him before and figured it was probably better to just go with the nice to meet you part. Although meeting someone after kissing them wasn’t really normal was it? Perhaps for some people it was.

Lia glanced back at the Snitch the place she’d just left and genuine smile crossed her face. She loved it, she spent so much of her time and money on it that it was impossible not to love it. “I’m okay with either really, although I probably should tell you that my brother and I own the Snitch.” She said with a small shrug. “It’s pretty quiet right now in there, Wigtown is having their party tonight starting at 7 and Trivia doesn’t start until 8, tends to get more packed around 6:30.” He probably didn’t need to know all of that, and it hit her after she’d said it all. “You probably didn’t need that much detail on how busy or unbusy a pub is.” She said looking down as she blushed again. Now she felt awkward.

“I was just getting some air on the way to the bakery, they’ll deliver everything anyways.” She said indicating this was an okay time for her, she did worry it wasn’t for him, but he was the one that asked her for a drink right? So worrying about it probably wasn’t going to be very logical or worth her time at all. “We have some great specialty Drinks for the winter season at the Snitch.” She added unsure really why.

Oliver couldn't help but laugh when Lia told him about how busy or not busy the Snitch was and then assured him that they had specialty drinks for the winter season. "Your promotion has sold me," he commented. "The Snitch it is," he added. It probably wasn't the best of ideas to take a girl on a date to her workplace but Oliver really hadn't given it that much of a thought. He was still slightly confused why she had even agreed to have a drink with him, so instead he turned to walk towards the pub.

He opened the door for her when they got there, and followed her in. When she had told him her and her brother run it, Oliver had kind of realised where he knew her from. He knew Lincoln because he had been a Gryffindor, so Oliver was sort of aware of who Lia was, he still didn't think he had ever actually spoken to the girl but that didn't particulary matter. She seemed lovely, which meant that Oliver had made a good call at asking her out. And now he'll have something to tell Alicia, too, so the woman would leave him alone. He had actually asked someone out. Amazing.

Letting Lia pick a seat, Oliver walked over to the bar, ordering himself a drink and asking the barmaid to get him whatever it was that Lia usually had. Presented with two drink, Oliver gave her the money, adding to keep the change that may be left over and walked back over to Lia, putting her drink on the table, before sitting down himself.

"So you enjoy running a pub, then?" Oliver asked, not quite sure what one was meant to talk about on a date. Oddly, Lia seemed far less confident than he had expected and possibly even slightly awkward. He really did hope it wasn't down to him, because that wouldn't be good. It had been far too long since Oliver had been on a date. On the bright side, this Christmas malarkey had finally escaped Oliver's mind.

Looking down with yet another blush she felt slightly silly. “Okay than.” She said with a smile. She really needed to work on her marketing skills probably. Lia was going to chalk up the really awkward babble that came out of her to the fact that she’d just kissed Oliver before introducing herself and the whole awkward thing was just that, awkward.

Thanking him as he opened the door she felt oddly comfortable as they walked into the Snitch. Perhaps it was that the place was basically like her home that it made her feel slightly better about everything. She got an odd look from one of the people there who was working the party and after finding a table and taking a sit she quickly told him to owl the bakery that they would need a delivery after all. It wasn’t a big deal, Lia had gone out to get fresh air more than to get the order.

Lia really hoped he wasn’t getting charged full price, if it were up to her, and she hadn’t been worried about getting the message out about the bakery order she would have told him they were on the house. That however didn’t work as he was already there and ordering.
“Thank you.” She said as she took the drink and a sip of it, it really did taste good. “Yes, I love it actually.” Lia said knowing full well that Linc would probably tell her she needed to say more than just that. “It’s a challenge, but I suppose it’d get boring if it wasn’t.” She said before adding. “I guess it was just a dream we had that we finally made happen.” She said as she glanced around the place. Lia knew it was probably easy to read her love of the place on her face.

“So, what brings you to Diagon today?” She asked figuring asking if he liked Quidditch was a stupid question.

Oliver smiled when Lia said that it was almost like dream come true. It was good to enjoy what you did, no one would know better than Oliver. Mostly because he genuinely couldn't imagine ever doing anything but playing Quidditch. As much as people made fun of him for being in love with the game he kind of was. When he had graduated Hogwarts he hadn't even considered doing anything else but playing the game professionally. And he was fucking good at it, too, which was the best thing. If had been stuck in a team like Cannons Olive probably would've cried. Yes, they all loved the game but damn some of them were so awful it was painful to watch.

"Christmas shopping," he replied honestly at her question about coming to Diagon Alley today. He might passionately hate Christmas but that sadly didn't mean he could not get presents. "I'm going home on Friday, so I need to get all the shopping and wrapping done," Oliver added with a slight shrug before taking a sip of his drink. "I can't say I like Christmas because that would be a massive lie but my siblings would be most unimpressed if I didn't get them anything," he said with a chuckle.

Christmas shopping was an awful business as was Christmas as a whole but oh, well, it had to be done and it would be over soon and everything would go back to how it usually was. With Oliver concentrating on Quidditch and ignoring absolutely everything else. December was never a good month for him, mostly because it was the only time of the year when he had to go home but thankfully that was never more than a week anyway. He'd probably end up killing himself if it was.

"You've got a large family, haven't you?" He asked, somewhat remembering a bit about the Moon family. As far as he could tell their family resembled a soap opera, but Oliver would lie if he said he knew much about them, only the small bits he had learned from the few chats with Lincoln.

Tilting her head the curiosity of understanding why he didn’t like Christmas hit her. Lia wasn’t really the type to press people so if she asked she wouldn’t really expect an answer or try and get one out of him. To Lia people could talk as much or as little as possible. It wasn’t fair to annoy people for answers if they were personal to them. The only people Lia bothered for answers, well actually the only person was Lincoln but that was different. Very different.

“Did you finish shopping?” She asked figuring that was a better question, besides Lia might be able to think of ideas or help him take care of some of the dreaded shopping considering he clearly seemed to no enjoy Christmas shopping. Lia mildly wondered if he hated sopping in general. She wouldn’t blame him, shopping could be horribly boring. But that was just Lia, shopping for anything other than things for the pub weren’t things she found fun.

“If you don’t mind me asking, why don’t you like Christmas?” Lia’s expression and tone was more of wondering if he was okay than anything else. Lia herself didn’t like or dislike Christmas that much. To Lia it was just Christmas. Actually she tended to like getting things for her siblings but that was about it. Lia wasn’t too big on Christmas, she loved her siblings birthdays. She liked days that were more important to one single person rather than everyone

“Pretty large, complicated. I have seven siblings.” She said feeling like it was an insane amount. “Four are half siblings.” Oliver was right in thinking it was like a soap opera. Something Lia wished wasn't so true, but she knew it was.

"I did," Oliver replied to her question about his Christmas shopping. "It was just bits and bobs I had to buy to finish it off," which was true, seeing how he had done majority of it early last weak, in an attempt to escape the crowds, which hadn't quite worked. But it was all done now, thank God, so he could go about his business of ignoring everything else about Christmas in the existence.

To be quite honest, Oliver wasn't sure how to explain his hate of Christmas. It was... mostly down to his family, really. Christmas had always been a hard time in the Wood household, what with his mother being off her face half the time and his father caring for her as the Wood siblings were left on their own devices. "My family doesn't really have a good track record of good Christmases," he answered as honestly as he could without saying 'My mother's crazy and my dad's a dick', which would've been the whole truth.

"Seven siblings!" Oliver exclaimed. "And I thought buying presents for three was hard enough," because he did just buy presents for his siblings, never bothering with his parents, they wouldn't appreciate it anyway. He did have to buy presents for Alicia and Angelina and Katie, too, mind you, which was almost like buying presents for your siblings but that was mostly because the girls always got him something and Oliver felt guilty for not doing the same.

“That’s good, best not to come into Diagon as it gets closer to Christmas. I am not looking forward to Friday.” She said with a soft smile, sure it meant more business but tripping over bags of stuff wasn’t. Besides a lot of people got testy while shopping, or so Lia had noticed this Christmas season.

Lia watched his expression as he told her why he wasn’t a fan of the holiday. “I’m sorry.” She said sincerely. Of course Lia knew that she couldn’t do anything about it, but she was honestly sorry to hear that. Perhaps it was because she wanted people to enjoy their time with their families but she was well aware that didn’t always happen. After all her four half siblings had a mother that left them without really looking back. She knew it was hard for them, and she wished she could do something about it.

Laughing she nodded. “I normally just do gift certificates to places I know they all love. I once got my sister Roselyn a shirt that she hated and decided after that I should leave it up to them to pick things out. Well, I also do some sort of candy I know they’ll like.” She shrugged. “I guess buying things for them has gotten a lot easier. Sometimes I still try with things but it’s hard to get things people will like sometimes. Even siblings.” Even as close as she was to her siblings she’d long ago learned she ended up more disappointed than not when trying to get the perfect gift for someone.

“So, if Christmas isn’t a favorite holiday, do you have one?” Lia asked party figuring that Christmas wasn’t a happy conversation considering he didn’t even like it.

Oliver nodded when she told him about getting gift certificates. See, he would do that but it didn't feel right to wake up on Christmas morning and not have presents - proper presents - to unwrap. It was kind of like giving someone money for Christmas. At the end of the day, Oliver liked that he could actually find things for his brother and sisters that they'd enjoy. So he spent hours on Christmas shopping because even if they hated what he got them? They could fucking well appreciate the fact that he had taken time out of his very busy schedule to shop. Especially since shopping was the male equivalent of hell.

"I'm not sure I have a favourite holiday," Oliver replied honestly. Easter wasn't much of a holiday, really. Halloween was just ridiculous. Valentine's day... well, did that even count as a holiday? Oliver would like to say that it was his birthday but he felt very similarly about his birthday as he did about Christmas. "Maybe the Queen's birthday?" He offered with a slight laugh. It obviously wasn't anyone's favourite holiday, including the Queen but it was an amusing thought.

Oliver took another sip of his drink before carrying on. "Holidays never have been anything special to me, if I'm honest," he said. "I mean, you get a day off and that's about it," that was one of the main reasons Oliver liked the idea of having kids. Then Christmas would be a completely different holiday, because he'd have the excitement of kids, which was lovely. Kids were so sweet. Then again, Oliver wasn't sure he could ever have kids, because most often than not you needed at least one more person in order to have kids.

To each their own with gift giving ways Lia supposed. Laughing at his comment of his favorite holiday she nodded. "I suppose that's a great one to have as a favorite." Lia said with a light tone. It wasn't a holiday Lia actually ever thought about, and even though she lived in England she didn't know what her birthday was. Something Lia would never admit to. She really didn't think that it mattered though either.

"If you're in the right line of work you get a day off. For me it's just a good day at the pub most of the time, depending on the holiday of course." Lia shrugged, she now didn't get any sort of time off. She got days off when most people were insanely busy with other things. Yeah, probably not a really good conversation for things.

"So, are you one of the teams playing on Christmas Eve?" She had heard Oliver loved Quidditch, she had only been a year behind him, just in a different house.

"Yeah, we're playing Christmas Eve," Oliver replied with a slight nod. He wasn't really looking forward to it, especially since they've been doing so fucking badly lately and it wasn't likely to improve since he literally had about half an hour after the game to have a shower, get changed, pick up his presents and floo over to his parents house in Scotland. Which would be covered in snow. He tried really hard to let the game take him over and forget about everything else but it was far harder than he had originally hoped for. In fact, it seemed that every year it became worse and worse. Oliver was always fearful of the fact that one year it'd just take him over completely.

Taking a rather large sip of his drink, Oliver sat the pint back down. "Do you go to games much? Or is it work, work, work mostly?" He could see how it might be, majority of the times he had been in the Snitch it had always been absolutely packed and they didn't seem to have that many bar staff. Oliver didn't really have any idea about how you ran a pub, he honestly had never done anything but Quidditch, which wasn't exactly something to be proud of but at least he was fucking good at it, right?

Oliver hadn't been on a date in a very long time and even before that, he hadn't been very good at dates. For a moment he pondered in his head what it was he tended to do wrong and the only thing that he could think of was that Oliver really wasn't open about himself. It never came easily to him to open up, in fact, Oliver wasn't convinced that even his closest friends knew him very well. With the exception of his siblings, Oliver never really told people about his life. He presumed that that did have the ability to put a downer on a relationship.

After a moments consideration, Oliver spoke up again. "Apparently I don't date enough, so my friends tell me," he said to Lia. "You're pretty and seemingly not socially retarded. What is the appropriate amount of dates to have and is there appropriate amount?" She did seem lovely, so Oliver had no doubt that Lia got asked out more often than she could say yes.

“Good luck.” She said with a smile. Lia meant it as well. She tended to hope people did well with their teams. She liked the Magpies from a child, and the Falcons only because of Ade, but otherwise she actually would like most teams to do well.

“I sadly don’t get to as many games as I used to, with the pub we get large crowds during the matches, people like listening to them here, those that can’t go.” She said with a shrug. As much as she’d love to go to the matches, they made a lot during them and that was sort of the point of the pub after all. “Occasionally I’ll make it, but not much.” Lia added thinking about the few times she went.

It took all of Lia’s self control not to look completely startled and confused. She wasn’t expecting to hear that he didn’t date that often, not to mention saying she didn’t seem socially retarded that it took her a good few moments to even know how to answer the question he’d just asked.

“I think you’re assuming I’d know, which I don’t.” Lia said her eyebrows scrunched in confusion. “And I don’t think it’s about some magical number that means you’ve been on enough dates.” She added leaning back with more thought. “And if you friends don’t think you date enough it’s probably because they just want you to be happy and are worried that your lack of dating means you’re not as happy, or you wont have the possibility to be as happy.” It seemed logical enough but Lia didn’t go on that many dates, she couldn’t remember the last first day she’d been on so this was a topic she felt pretty useless in.
