By now, most everyone has heard about the ad released by the National Organization for Marriage (OM NOMNOMNOMNOM!) that spews a bunch of ignorant lies about same-sex marriage and how it affects (yeah right) hets.

Here's the original ad in case you haven't seen it:

Here's one of the many parodies of the ad:

So it's getting to be that time of the year when queer communities around the nation (and possibly world?) celebrate PrideFest. So...here's a poll.

Poll #1843 PrideFest
Open to: All, results viewable to: All

Are you going to your local PrideFest?

View Answers

Where is your PrideFest located?

My partner, Katie, and I will be attending Pride St. Louis in St. Louis, MO. We also decided to register for the pet parade on Saturday. Our dog, Tasha, has a doggy t-shirt with a pride flag on it that I'm hoping still fits her. We're going to make t-shirts for ourselves that say "Proud Doggy Mommy" on them. Should be fun and cute to be a part of the pet parade. We're just going to be spectators for the big parade on Sunday, though.

Is anybody else going to be active in their local PrideFest, either by marching in a parade or manning a booth or performing or whatever?

Okay, taking the plunge and posting an intro here even though that ..... scares me a little. Trust me, I'll explain.

I'm 22 years old, bisexual and genderqueer (still closeted on both counts outside of the internet), and very single because of it. I'm not exactly looking though, so that's a plus, right? Or not, depending on who you are. I'm one of those people that never really does look for a relationship, but I'm not going to complain if I happen to meet a great guy or girl who treats me with respect and we have at least some things in common. Which makes this sound like a personals ad and it's not. Believe me.

Okay, that takes care of the a/s part of "a/s/l?" (I've noticed that most intro posts seem to follow that kind of format), so here goes for location and.... everything else. I'm currently living in California and let me tell you, even though I live just a few hours' drive from San Francisco and an hour-ish drive from Big Sur (look it up if you don't know; gorgeous place), it's not as idyllic as a lot of people might think. Politically, for the GLBT community, this state has had a lot of fuck-ups and we're nowhere near being where we should. But it's a nice place in terms of the look of everything, so..... Maybe that makes up for it? I don't know.

No dogs, two cats, a teeny kitchen, and a welcome mat. But sadly, 'tis not a lighthouse that I live in. Kudos to anyone who gets that, by the way. My taste in music is pretty damn eclectic, as is my taste in movies and books, so if there's anything you'd like to know about me, just ask. Or friend my journal. I'm sure I'll say something interesting in there at some point.

Yikes, I just noticed how long this intro is. So sorry about the rambling, but I couldn't help it! This is what happens when I don't pay much attention to what I'm saying.

Belated introduction [Dec. 17th, 2007|09:12 pm]

Hey, there! Sorry this is a little late. ^_^;;

My name's Cytherene, and I'm a 24-year-old bisexual amateur writer-woman living in Nebraska. (I'm a former military brat, though, so if you ask me where I'm from, the answer you'll generally get is "everywhere".) It took me a while to fully come to terms with myself--a situation made worse when there was a five-year family meltdown when my older sister declared her decision to begin studying Wicca--but I finally began the coming-out process after I moved out of the house. The first to know was the man who would eventually become my husband; I told him with the understanding that he was free to break things off at any time, if he was uncomfortable with the arrangement (being somewhat uncomfortable with strange things, I believed this was a concern. Thankfully, he has been VERY understanding and supportive. I've been lucky, but I have many close friends who haven't been--close friends who can't get married just because their other halves are the same gender as themselves. It's slow going, but I am hoping for (and trying to help work toward)the day all that changes, and for once, all rights really are created equal.

Yergh. I hate writing introductions. *laughs* Well, there I am, at any rate. :D

Jodie Foster [Dec. 17th, 2007|08:48 am]

I hope this link works. I wasn't able to watch the video, so 1) I don't know if the link works and 2) I don't know if this is old news. If it is old news, I'm sure as hell out of the loop. Not that I'm entirely surprised to hear Jodie Foster is gay, but just that I haven't heard more about it if it is in fact old news.

According to the caption, in the video, Jodie thanks her partner, Cydney (that's how CNN spelled it), publicly for the first time at an awards ceremony, and then someone on CNN discusses it.

Another intro [Dec. 13th, 2007|10:52 am]

[music |Nine Inch Nails - "Me, I'm Not"]

My name's Katie and I'm the mod's partner. >.< (We're just all one big happy famb dambly around here, aren't we?) I'm 32 and I live in Illinois with my partner of over two years along with our dog, Tasha. I am currently employed as an administrative assistant in an LGBT-ministered Christian church, which is odd seeing as I practice Wicca. But my life is full of oxymorons or contradictions like that.

I like fantasy (Piers Anthony), horror (Stephen King... and J-Horror movies) and the just plain weird (i.e. Neil Gaiman, Aphex Twin, The Orb and any other amount of things I show interest in). I don't write in my journal to entertain others (that's what I create my music for); I mostly write to vent and let out my thoughts and feelings when I'm in the mood to.

I identify as "queer" - not lesbian, not bisexual, not confused. I also happen to have gone through transition from male to female, but my romantic interest in other women is still alive & well as you can tell.

So that's me! ^_^

Intro [Dec. 11th, 2007|07:24 pm]

xo_tara_xo
[mood | cheerful]

*waves*

Well since the mod did an intro I guess I'll follow suit. I'm Tara. I live in Washington State. A rare Washingtonian as I have only lived (at most) 40 miles from the house I was raised. I'm on the western side of the mountains (Seattlish). I'm a certified sign language interpreter. 38. Been with my girl, Ashley, for 6 years this coming January. We just bought a house in July so I think we're in it for the long haul.

I've been out since I was 20. Should have been a lot sooner as my mother owned a gay bar when I was a kid but that's a story for another day...

Welcome to the queer women asylum. Please feel free to introduce yourself.

So I guess I'll start...

I'm Allison and I'm your mod here. I'm 27 and I live in Illinois with my partner of over two years along with our dog, Tasha. I'm a legal secretary and work in downtown St. Louis. I've been out to a certain extent for about three years. I'm a big geek when it comes to movies, tv shows, video games and the Internet.

Amd I'm not spectacular at introducing myself. Hopefully you all will do a better job of introducing yourself.

Also if there's any discussions or anything you think could be of interest, post away. Let's get this community going.
