"Lovesong" by the Cure, 218

I think "Lovesong" by the Cure, which plays in 218 the first time Justin kisses Ethan, is really a very brilliant use of a song, despite the fact that I hate that scene. I think they say so much about Justin, and what he's feeling about his life and about Brian. I don't think they are about Ethan, or Justin and Ethan as a couple, at all.

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again

However far away I will always love you
However long I stay I will always love you
Whatever words I say I will always love you
I will always love you

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am free again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am clean again

However far away I will always love you
However long I stay I will always love you
Whatever words I say I will always love you
I will always love you

Just reading these lyrics and thinking about that scene makes me want to cry. I don't know if it makes any sense, but it's Justin I feel saddest for during that period. His broken heart breaks mine. You just *know* that kiss hurt, no matter how exciting it might have been or alluring. *Aches*

I looked into your eyes
They told me plenty
I already knew
You never felt a thing
So soon forgotten all that you do
In more than words i
Tried to tell you
The more I tried I failed

I would not let myself believe
That you might stray
And I would stand by you
No matter what theyd say, I would have thought Id be with you
Until my dying day
Until my dying day

I used to think my life
Was often empty
A lonely space to fill
You hurt me more than
I ever would have imagined
You made my world stand still
And in that stillness
There was a freedom
I never felt before

I would not let myself believe
That you might stray
And I would stand by you
No matter what theyd say, I would have thought Id be with you
Until my dying day
Until my dying day

human behavior bjourk
If you ever get close to a human
And human behaviour
Be ready to get confused

Theres definitely no logic
To human behaviour
But yet so irristible

Theres no map
To human behaviour

Theyre terribly moody
Then all of a sudden turn happy
But, oh, to get involved in the exchange
Of human emotions is ever so satisfying

Theres no map
And a compass
Wouldnt help at all

I actually drew my breath in sharply and exhaled the first time I saw that scene with that remix of Sarah's song. Amazing choice of lyrics and scene.

I can't remember which scene this is from or this song. I am so embarrassed, but I want to know more than I am embarrassed to ask! Which scene is it from? Thank you.

*Hides face*

It's not actually FROM a scene... it's over the closing credits -- and doesn't begin one second before them -- of 219, after Brian and Justin have that horrible, painfully intense kiss after Justin comes in from being with Ethan and Brian's been at the bowling competition.

I agree the song is very powerful but I don't know what the "first" is in that scene...

Thank you.

I can watch that scene now and actually enjoy how incredibly beautiful they are together in it. But the first time I watched it I was so scared. I remember sitting up and clinging to my knees and I was so sick to my stomach. I had no idea what was going to happen.

yeah it actually starts right after he tells him "go take a shower you stink" he starts getting up off the floor and it starts playing. I don't know it just seems to tell me his feelings, thoughts.

I am not sure if I filled out the poll right. I answered number 3 as 'I only like these songs *because* they're on the show. All the others I would like anyway.

The rest of the poll questions, I believe I answered appropriately, just not sure about #3.

This was really hard for me to do.
Each song to me is such a seamless part of each scene.
I see the music in QaF almost as another character. I may love it as much as I love BJ. It infiltrates my life...playing in my car, my kitchen, my iPod. Spreading to my kids, my friends, people who have never watched the show.

But today, I am on a 101 kick, again. So yeah, First Kiss.

Can you explain the difference between the first and third questions? I take the first one to be asking which song matches the scene best in general. And what a song adds to the scene or the development of the story or the characterization *would* be those things to me...so it feels like basically the same question.

If that's the case, then I'll just pick the same song for both questions, but if you mean something really different, I might have to rethink my choice.

Question 1 makes you pick only one... the BEST. Question three lets you pick all the ones that you feel that way about, even if it was all five. :)

I always liked "You look so fine" by Garbage. It's from 120, the first time Justin really pushes back and Brian realizes the puppy has teeth after all.

Especially these lines are symbolic for Justin making a statement :
Knocked down
Cried out
Been down just to find out
I'm through
Bleeding for you

When Brian walks down those stairs and watches Justin with that trick, you see a vulnerability on his face that gets to me every time. These lines come to mind :
I want to break your heart
And give you mine
You're taking me over

It's so insane
You've got me tethered and chained
I hear your name
And I'm falling over
It's starting to dawn on Brian that no matter what he does, or how hard he tries to push him away, somehow Justin managed to find his way to Brian's heart.

You know how sometimes when you take an online quiz or something, you check the box that you WISH was your real answer, but its not always your most honestest (like that word?) answer? After I filled this out, I realized that I was totally subjective (is that the right one?) and just LOVE LOVE LOVE the reunion scene so much, that I couldnt like... choose anything else! So, yeah....sorry if I messed up your poll :-)

I remember loving the song (don't remember now) they used in the first time they have sex on the floor after Justin says he'll marry him in the pre-air episode. Later in the aired one, they changed it for another i liked much less.

Oooh, there's also first dance together at Babylon, I love let's hear it for the boy!

Annnd... Chiquitita as first, uh, dance together after the bashing? Would that work?

And of course, as said in comments, you look so fine is one of my very favorites.

Everytime I watch QaF, I am in awe all over again because of the musics. Of course, they don't put any subtitles for the lyrics, so more often than not I start translating them out of the blue to the friends I'm watching it with, so that they can get the awesomeness, too, and be happy with me.
They think I'm a geek. And that I should be looked up.
I don't care, I'll keep on spreading the QaF-Music!love. Heh.

Totally off-topic, but as I'm posting, Tweak says "I'll be here when you get back"

Aw.

Another first time scene for me is Brian and Justin's first dance, with Let's Hear It For The Boy - I love everything about this scene, how it shows characterization, how beautiful visually it is, and how well the song was chosen.

"From the Inside" by Gioia Bruno - 307
[info]circadia
2009-02-04 09:54 pm UTC (link)
Another first that just came to mind, too:
The first time Brian sees Justin in the back room of Babylon after Justin and Ethan have broken up - that much-discussed scene at the end of 307 with "From the Inside" by Gioia Bruno where Justin basically announces the breakup to Brian. (For me, it's also the first scene where I think they both realize they'll end up back together)
The scene has no dialogue, and while their eyes and facial expressions say so much, I think the song does a lot for the scene too.

I want you
I wanna feel you from the inside
But I want you
I wanna feel you from the inside
I don´t need no one, to push me around
I don´t need no one (oh yeah), holding me down

Would you release yourself
Step into my parlour
I could please myself

But I want you
To make me feel alive
Make me feel alive

But I want you
I wanna feel you from the inside (oh yeah)

Close you´re mouth, baby hush
Again till my eyes like you read your mind (oh yeah)
I feel you rise

Would you release yourself
Step into my parlour
I could please myself

But I want you
To make me feel alive
To make me feel alive
To make me feel alive
To make me feel alive

But I want you
I wanna feel you from the inside

But I want you
I wanna feel you from the inside
I wanna feel you from the inside

Episode 202
[info]silent_seas
2009-02-04 09:57 pm UTC (link)
asdhajfdhfa, no one is talking about the end of episode 202. (First time after Justin's bashing, with Sigur Ros' song Svefn-g-Englar) That's the one I think of when you ask about a scene with a 'first' and music that enhances the storylines/characterizations/drama.

Incidentally, that song is my favorite over those in the poll, so perhaps I'm biased. Although the 'first' from 202 is probably my favorite as well, even without the music....
