*Marathons Gone Wild, 509*

Thanks, [info]qafmaniac for our awesome banner and icons!

TGIF! We've made it through a week of *tough* marathoning...and now there's light at the end of the tunnel. In today's episode, things don't really get better, but 510 and the "I Love You" heard 'round the world is close at hand.

One thing that I've noticed about this episode is how everyone is very coupled in this episode...Ben and Michael are close again after the stress of losing Hunter, Mel and Linds fight and fuck all at the same time, we see Jenn with Tucker for the first time, Em and Drew are stepping out into the gay world together, Deb and Carl are happy and even Ted's got the Jewish doctor, momentarily.

And then there's Brian and Justin. *sobs*

I'm ready to start...hopefully you can join us. If not, come by anytime or go back and visit another post from this week. We'd LOVE to have you.

Brian and Emmett *and* Ted look *GREAT* in this scene.

I love how she alludes to Vic here...that was such a HUGE thing for her.

I also like that, despite the fact that Debbie tries really hard to intervene, Michael stands firm. I don't *like* that he and Brian are estranged, but I like that Michael is sticking to his convictions.

Debbie is such a picture of contrasts. In S1, she wanted Brian to give up Michael so he could find love and live his life realized. Now she's taken a 180 and is trying to patch things up. However, I think Michael is being rather mean and bitter to his oldest friend. Sure, you can disagree, be polite, but this is a bit extreme. This is when I really started disliking Michael. Maybe I'm a Brianite, though. :)

I enjoy this...nice little conversations. Very QaF-esque to me.

Oh, and that sweet little old man. And Jenn and Justin are so thrown off they don't even try to talk to the daughter!

The door-to-door was a good idea in theory, but I'm never convinced of anything by someone showing up at my door unexpectedly. It doesn't look too successful here either.

[info]noteverything

It's genius? I'm not really buying it (pun fully intended).

Ted looking for a husband.
Brian: Why don't you ask Justin? Rumor has it he's hot for a hubby.
Sheesh, that's low, even on the Brian Kinney scale of scathing comments.

Jenn's coat is *fabulous* in that scene where Tucker comes to get her on the motorcycle. I covet that coat.

Deb and Brian Get High, Part Deaux
[info]noteverything
2009-07-31 02:03 pm UTC (link)
We've progressed to Deb supplying the food *and* the pot.

Brian looks just as good as he did in S3, though. Those zip sweaters he's sporting this season suit him, imo.

Deb: A normal home.
Brian: laughs
Love that!

And then the crux of the matter, Michael left Brian. He did, but I think Deb's point is extremely valid. Different choices don't mean they have to give up a friendship.

That's something I will never stop loving about Queer as Folk. That in-your-face, who gives a fuck what you think attitude. Especially now, in the face of Prop 14. Love it.

The Art Show
[info]noteverything
2009-07-31 02:14 pm UTC (link)
Brian looks like shit. Justin is an ass to the critic and to Linds and to Tucker.

I'm pretty sure that's not a popular assessment of this scene, but I really find him abhorrent in this scene.

"Have you fucked her?"

Seriously. I would like to slap him.

The Art Show, continued
[info]noteverything

I think that Brian really did make an effort. He did apologize, didn't he? I think he needed to actually *say* I'm sorry, but it was still heart-felt. Or am I just letting my Brianite take over for rationality?

"Just because we've been friends our whole lives, doesn't mean we have to stay friends."

Ouch.

Again, seriously?

Final Scene at Babylon
[info]noteverything
2009-07-31 02:38 pm UTC (link)
Brian: "Surprised to see you here."
Michael: "Why'd you apologize?"
Brian: "I guess I miss you."
Michael: "Still love me?"
Brian: "Always have, always will."

But it's just an illusion.
:-(

Ted: "Thanks Bri."
Brian: "Anything. For a friend."

*sobs*

I think there's a lot to think about in those words. First...in Brian's mind, he *did* apologize and although it's so heartbreaking to me that Michael isn't really there, I love that in Brian's personal thoughts, he still loves Michael. That gives me hope that they'll work things out. I know he feels the exact same way about Justin.

And then you have Ted, not a substitute or a replacement for what Brian's lost, but a *real* friend. I wish I could be more eloquent, but I can't.

It's a very touching scene and it's extremely well-done.
