My melty heart ...

I can't believe I've only posted like 3 times this month (not including posts in the asylums). I don't think this has ever happened before except for when I first started a journal.

Champ continues to improve. His last test results were so much better and so much closer to the normal range that I cried a little on the way home. Plus, in one week, he gained 13 ounces. So, I've decided to go ahead with my vacation plans (which I sorely need at this point). My sister is planning something special for my 40th and a dear friend is coming into town. After that, we're heading out on a road trip ending in a spa for a couple of days in Vermont. From there, we'll part company and I'll continue on to my sister's for Reason's first birthday. I'll be a few days early, but we're going to celebrate anyway.

I can finally get excited because I found someone to stay with Charger and Champ on top of my sis checking in on them.

I also decided not to cook dinner this year for Thanksgiving. I cheated and bought everything pre-made and I'm so happy about it. I'll have time to do the things I want to do. Happy sigh.

On a fandom note, I want to know something. Tell me a scene that makes you melt. It has to be a scene that causes your heart to skip a beat every single time you watch it. Post about it in your journal...or here in comments. I can't wait to see what you've got for me. :D

Marathon - Friday night
I'm going to be home alone friday night and think I'd like to watch a few episodes.

Anybody want to join me?? I was thinking of doing 101, 102, 512 and 513. I like the idea of doing the beginning and the end back to back. I would probably start at 8pm EST.

:D Please let me know if there is any interest in this.

Loud noises in middle of the night
Last night I was awoken by by a loud noise that sounded like something fell in the kitchen. Then a few minutes later I smelled what to me smelled like electronics burning. I woke Ray up from a dead sleep and we went exploring. It was then that I noticed the monitor button on my monitor flashing off and on. And the odor was really strong by the computer.

We unplugged it immediately and Ray took it to work today. We are hoping that it is just the power supply. All my graphic programs are on that computer, along with screen caps. I have screen caps saved on external hard drives and on Megaupload but that doesn't help me without the programs to work with them. Right now I am using my daughters laptop, and she has told me that I can download GIMP onto it, but I know nothing about that program.

If the problem with the computer is the motherboard It won't be until after Christmas, means that I will be limited in what I can do graphically for a while. Which sucks because I have the Friends and Lovers challenge over at [info]qaf_challenges to do still. Unfortunately I might have to back out of that one. I will know more tonight.

If you are waiting for graphics from me, please be patient, I will get to them I promise, it just might take me a while.

Edited for Update: Ray just called and said that the computer is fixed. The power supply was the problem. He will be bringing it home later today. I would of went crazy without my graphics programs

Yay! I have an extra shift! It's only five and a half hours, but still. Extra shift! *happy dance*

Alas, because I'm lazy, this means tomorrow or tonight I'll be cleaning house. Because it's past due to clean and the floor in the kitchen for some reason is sticky. And really...I don't want to be cleaning tomorrow--mainly because then my mum will say something about cleaning on the holiday.

So work today and cleaning house. Yay? Maybe?

Mid-week Hilarity
While attempting to avoid actually doing work, as per usual, I found two particularly wonderful YouTube videos. The first is by far my favorite. Hal Sparks is the officiant for a faux lesbian wedding in CA. It was a launch for a new equality clothing line, "All Love is Equal". It is very well done. And the brides even exchange rings...or more hoops (hula hoops).

Hal Sparks as a Priest )

The second one I found was the decade in 7 minutes. Its brilliantly done and hilarious. Although it is really scary to think that the decade is all but over...

In case you missed it )

Okay so my fellow QAF fans...we all know what happened at the latest award ceremony and Adam Lambert? Right?

Am I the only one who keeps thinking about when Emmett was the "Channel 5 Queer Guy?" and Brian told him that the only reason Emmett was so loved was because he was safe, that he was non-threatening?

I cannot be the only one!

So I was only scheduled for three days this week (curse you black Friday!). When I was looking at the schedule, I found out that some one had forgotten to schedule a cashier for tomorrow night. Which is bad because even though there will be associates tomorrow night who are cross-trained to use a register, everyone has to make sure everything is ready on the floor for the cursed Black Friday. So I left a note and told the manager who is going to be working tomorrow night that I'm only 5 to 10 minutes away and would be willing to work tomorrow night.

We'll see if that follows through. It'd be awesome if it did because I could always use the hours. It'd be only about a five hour shift (or maybe more now that I think about it...), but it's money.

Also...I think I'm funny...because when I'm at home, I do not look forward to going to work. But then I'm there and it's fun. I love this job. It isn't too busy, my co-workers are awesome, and if I've done what I've supposed to, I can indeed just stand there or even read the newspaper if it's left there. And I love fixing ratchets. It's fun.

There's been a slight change to the thanksgiving menu--my mum instead of biscuits wants cornbread. So I've got corn meal and a cast iron pan to use...so I'm making cornbread. Yay!

Lastly, because I was feeling craft-y and because I had the extra money, I got some ribbon for a dress that I bought too big. It was an online purchase and waited too long to return it so I ended up keeping it. So I thought, why not get some ribbon? I've also got extra fabric so what the plan is...is to make loops on the side of the dress where I want the ribbon to go and thread the ribbon through the loops. Shouldn't be too difficult. Maybe I'll even add a pocket...

Also, I found this cheap ($1.20 for 6 inches) fabric that's cotton and a mellow-y yellow color. It has a nice almost unnoticable flower pattern on it. So I'm going to cut it up into rectangles and sew the edges back to keep fraying away to make napkins ^^ I'll post pictures when it's done.

I forgot how much fun it is to be craft-y. Soon I shall have enough to get a few canvases to paint and then maybe I'll look into doing panting on a wood piece...

I did it!
*does a happy dance*

I have finally finished part one of my Grad School application. I needed to create a "writing sample", basically proving that I can write semi-intelligently. It is 14 pages long (if someone would like to tear it apart read/edit it for me, I would more than appreciate having another set of eyes looking at it) and talking about nostalgia for the former East Germany, in particular two films that came out about 10 years ago.

Now I just need to write my personal statement, outlining what I want to do and why, and exactly why I'm awesome, amazing, and wonderful a good candidate, so they will give me lots of money to go there! I have to fill out 6 applications and remind my recommendation letter writers to get them done and submit them. But I'm very excited because the hardest part is done, well besides fixing it.

I'm also hoping to have time to write my idea for [info]_alicesprings Friends and Lovers Challenge. We'll see, sadly applying for Grad school has to come first. I am completely stumped for my Christmas Xchange present, I understand what my person wants but I can't find a logical situation to get it there. Can I bounce ideas off of anyone?

Spammy again
Sorry. Just a lot to post. And I wanted to keep the posts separate because...well...just because.

Well, actually, I wanted to make sure the post about the HDS Beltane fest wasn't lost amidst other things.

Anyway...

I have $5....how? The stage manager at the theatre is one of the ones who, on the last show, gives little gifts to the crew. So she got me some starburst and nut clusters--I can't eat nut clusters because of an allergy. I felt bad and ended up telling her so she took the nut clusters and gave me the $5 instead. And wasn't upset or mad. Yay!

My mum bought me a new shirt. She had a $10 card from Kohl's that the store had sent her so she took me with her to see if I could find something if she couldn't. Turns out they still had a lot of summer shirts on sale. So I managed to find a nice black shirt that I can wear to work. It was only $7.20 and made by Mudd. It's also only a large which is happiness because that's the smallest I've been since middle school. *happy dance*

I should be getting my first pay check on Wednesday. I'm hoping anyway. Which is good because then I can set up something with the credit card people and give some to Sallie Mae and shut them up. I can also go looking for some new underwear and black jeans (for work). Maybe another work shirt or two and vests. [info]graylor offered to buy me socks so I don't have to worry about picking those up (but hon, I can so if you really can't, let me know! I'll feel bad if I haven't at least said something about being able to pick up socks come this weekend!)

So I forgot one letter on an LJ url and this error_page ) popped up. xD Made my day.

Christmas will soon be here!! Depending on a few things, I'm considering buying some more string lights (I honestly don't think my mum has more than what we need for the tree), maybe some garland...and maybe a second tree with ornaments. The second tree is a maybe and only so I can get it now while the bills are still low and I'll have one for my own place. If I do get the second tree, I'm going to go with a Victorian gothic kind of look. That would be awesome xD

How are all of you? Well I hope!! Plans for the holidays? Wishing you didn't have to work Black Friday? Tell me--please?!

Yay! Thanksgiving menu figured out!

Isn't that the cutest butternut squash ever?? It's also the perfect size because I'm the only one eating it.

Anyway, this year I had a small challenge set for me because not only am I doing my first meatless holiday, but I wanted to make it healthier. The family usually will make white potatoes, gravy, corn, turkey, and biscuits.

Now, I will be the only one eating my awesome healthy menu, but it will be awesome ^^

Breakfast:

french toast
cinnamon biscuits from scratch (maybe...not sure yet if I will make these)

Munchies:

hummus
crackers
sharp cheddar cheese
applesauce

The actual meal:

yams mixed in with white potatoes (my mum is making the white potatoes)
corn (my mum will be making this)
breaded Parmesan butternut squash recipe here
steamed asparagus with fresh spinach tossed with quinoa, olive oil, and Parmesan cheese
cranberry jellied sauce (organic because the non-organic stuff had corn syrup in it)
biscuits from scratch

Desert:

apple crisp with whipped cream
my cranberry-lemon seltzer-passion fruit mojito drink (I've yet to come up with a name for it)

If anyone wants recipes, let me know!
