Brian feels an overwhelming sense of what the fuck. He can't believe Justin left so that he could pick up a trick. Moreover, he can't believe he's not interested in picking up said trick.

As much as he's loathe to admit it, Pride is special. At least this year. At least for them. After all they've been through, Brian can't imagine spending tonight with anyone but Justin. Because Pride is about showing those fuckers that they're survivors. And while damaged, he and Justin are still here, still queer.

"Hey, stud." Brian places a hand on Sunshine's shoulder. "You wanna dance?"

"I'm tired, so go back to fucking bed," Brian mumbles into his pillow.

"Would you stop being an ass for just one minute?"

Justin's tone—anxious and desperate—has Brian begrudgingly rolling over, his arm wrapping around Justin's slender waist. Sunshine brings his finger to Brian's lips, traces their outline and sighs.

"What if I can't do it? I don't have my strength back in my hand yet and classes are—"

"Do you want to do it?"

Blue eyes closing, Justin says, "you know I do."

"Then the way I see it you only have one choice."

When he gets home, Brian finds a present on the bed.

"Sunshine? What's this?"

Justin pads out of the bathroom. "Daph and I were out today, and I found the perfect Christmas gift for you."

"You know it's only October, right?"

"Yeah, but things happen. I wanted to give it to you now."

Things happen? Like bats to the head? No, they're not fucking doing this, not going to live their lives this way—worried that tomorrow they might end up dead.

"You can give it to me on Christmas Eve at Deb's like we talked about."

And that's that.

He'll never tell Justin, but Brian is really fucking proud of how far Sunshine has come. So much so that he goes to Utrecht with Lindsay the day before Justin starts classes to pick up a ton of top-of-the-line art supplies.

When Justin comes home, he's horny as fuck, and it takes Brian a solid ten minutes to get Sunshine to stop so that he can open his gifts.

"Oh my god, Brian, what is this?"

Sunshine opens the first box, and his eyes light up like a kid on Christmas morning when he sees the Holbein pastels and oils.
