The 37 Days of Gusmas, for The Trevor Project
The 37 Days of Gusmas 2010
A Queer as Folk Fundraising Drabble-athon to Benefit The Trevor Project,
An Organization to Support LGBT and Questioning Youth Who Are Being Bullied or Are Contemplating Suicide
In the spirit of the Gusmas Season, the Queer as Folk fandom is raising money for this worthy cause. The Trevor Project is an organization that runs a free, 24 hour hotline to help queer and questioning youth and help stop the epidemic of bullying and youth suicide plaguing the LGBT community. It is the organization that the "It Gets Better" campaign was organized to refer teens to for help.
Here's how it works:
1. We're posting a prompt for every day from Thanksgiving Day to New Year's Day... 37 prompts in all. Some of the prompts are words -- song lyrics, quotations, single words -- and others are images.
2. For each qualifying drabble posted, xie_xie_xie will donate $1 to The Trevor Project. (There are additional ways to earn donation money, which are listed in the next section.)
3. All the prompts are included at the end of this post -- there is no wait before you can start start writing or posting. :)
4. You can choose to be inspired by a prompt in any way, and you don't need to include the word in the drabble -- but there does need to be a connection between the prompt and your work.
5. You can post a drabble for a prompt anytime -- you're not tied to the date of the prompt. And yes, that means you can post a New Year's Eve drabble on Thanksgiving and vice versa, or post drabbles for all 37 prompts in one day. Ask anyone -- we're easy!
6. You can post any number of drabbles for any number of prompts (including one!), and you can also post multi-drabble stories of any length. You can let a single prompt inspire the whole story, or use multiple prompts for one story.
7. Post qualifying drabbles any time from Nov. 25 up until 11:59 PM Eastern (New York) time on January 1, 2011.
8. For the purposes of this challenge, a drabble is exactly 100 words; if there's a question raised as to length, the Microsoft Word "word count" will be used to judge.
9. Drabbles must be about the characters from Queer as Folk. All canonical pairings, friendship, gang, and ensemble fics are fine. AUs are fine. Humor, satire and crack are fine. Crossovers are fine. No MPREG, no Michael/Brian, no RPS/RPF. Must warn for major character death and put behind a cut.
10. If you have more than one drabble, please use a cut.
11. For each drabble, include the following:
Title:
Author:
Prompt(s):
Notes (optional, but if you include multiple drabbles, please say how many you did):
12. Tag each post with the "Gusmas 2010" tag. Any untagged post may not be counted for purposes of awarding prizes, although we'll do our best to tag any that get missed. But please, if you don't know how to tag, ask, and if you forget, please go back and add the tag.
AND THERE'S MORE!
In addition to the $1 which will be donated to The Trevor Project for each qualifying drabble:
1. There will be a bonus donation of $25 for anyone who posts a drabble for each prompt. (You can post more than one per prompt, but each prompt needs to have at least one.)
2.For each person who posts a coherent 37-drabble story using every prompt, in order, one drabble per prompt and no more, there will be an additional $50 donation.
3. masnds2 has pledged $50 to inspire writers and commenters! Yay!
4. not_yet_defined has pledged one dollar for every prompt I write for, and if I write one for all 37, she'll "make it an even $40." YAY!!!
5. sarahj2222 will donate $50 for the first posted story of five drabbles. WOW!!!!
6. brianswalk will donate $50 if I hit all 37 prompts -- YES!!!! UPDATE: brianswalk will also donate $1 (up to $50) for every prompt in which the LJ community drabylon is mentioned in the notes -- c'mon, LJ drabblers!
7. UPDATE 2: noteverything will donate $1 for every drabble written for prompts #15 ("Baby, It's Cold Outside") and #17 ("What have you done today to make you feel proud?")!
8. UPDATE 3: blasty will donate $1 for every prompt that has a drabble written for it by anyone! So if there is at least one drabble written for every prompt, that's another $37!
9. UPDATE 4: blasty has upped her donation to $50 if someone will write a fun and schmoopy drabble with Gus in it for the Dec. 9 prompt, "Shopping."
10. UPDATE 5: wren_kt7oz is meeting my challenge of a dollar for every drabble submitted! Thank you for your amazing generosity!
Thank you to those who pledged additional challenge donations, and if anyone else wants to raise the stakes, please comment below and I'll update!
