Title: If It Weren't for Bad Luck
Notes: No beta, all mistakes are mine. Go Brian!! (I accidentally posted this at my own journal earlier, so sorry if you're having to see it twice)
And the condom goes to: Brian Kinney.

Brian was tired. And hungry. Working on New Year’s Day was ridiculous. He was ready for takeout, a bottle of whiskey and a hot, hot shower, preferably with a hot, hot blond.

Instead, he walked into the smell of something horribly burned, pots and pans littering the kitchen and Justin standing in the middle of it all, sucking furiously at his thumb.

Brian raised an eyebrow in question.

“I was making black-eyed peas for New Year’s. You know, for good luck?” Justin began. “But I burned them and then I burned my thumb.”

Brian began laughing and couldn’t stop.

LOL, loved this.

We cook lentils for good luck, and wear yellow underwears too. ;)

Yay! I'm glad you did.

And I'd wear yellow underwear in honor of you if I had them. I have some lime green panties...think that's close enough?

Maybe I'll eat lentils instead of black-eyed peas this year...

*snickers along with Brian*
I can only imagine what burned black eyed peas smell like...

(and just as good the second time!)

Now I'm laughing, too :D (Black-eyed peas are good luck at New Year's? So this is something new I've learned...)

(re-commented for posterity, and b/c I want to use my Happy New Year icons :D)

It's definitely a Southern tradition. I didn't know what they did in PA, so I took some liberties.

And Yay! for New Year icons...there are some *good* ones this year, aren't there?

Transference...I burned my hand earlier this week.

Do you do the black-eyed pea thing too? When I first got married, my mom would always check to make sure we had our peas on New Year's Day. Guess she didn't want to take any chances!

Yes!

I just this second realized that my brother in law always has them and we have them at my sister's house at their New Year's day pajama brunch. They have it every year. Then I just realized that they aren't having it this year. (She's having a baby in two weeks.)

Either that, or we didn't get invited. Shit.

Black-eyed peas for New Year's? Is that a Texan thing? Pork & sauerkraut is the good luck tradition here. :D

Poor, poor Justin. He'll need some extra special care from Brian tonight!

It's a southern thing...but we *definitely* do it in Texas. I was too lazy to try to figure out what they do in PA...I should have just check with you.

Yeah, poor Justin. Brian's going to have to really make up for all his bad luck. Wonder what he'll come up with?

Oh, I didn't mean you got it wrong, I didn't even think about that! I was just curious about the black-eyed peas thing. I find traditions in different parts of the country interesting. :D

There is no way on earth Justin would ever make sauerkraut for Brian. He'd hate the smell!

Black-eye peas, hamhocks and cabbage...nothing like southern New Year side dishes.

Very cute!

Thanks Book!

I didn't eat any black-eyed peas this year. I wonder what will happen...
