Title: Finding a Reason Author: jule1122 Author's Note: Since the drabble I wrote for this prompt won't be posted until the end of the week, I wanted to write one more before I leave. Pssst-look I'm using my icon from the wonderful brianslave68! Condom: Justin
Despite everything going on, Debbie had insisted they all come for Sunday dinner, and when she used that tone no one was brave enough to defy her. Even Ted showed up although neither he nor Emmett were smiling.
Instead of the usual mismatched plates and pasta, they found an elaborately set table and a feast of Italian delights.
“Hey, Deb you do know Stockwell is still kicking our ass in the polls?” Brian asked as he sat down.
“Oh honey,” Debbie gently rebuked as she passed him the wine, “haven’t you learned by now that every day is worth celebrating?” |

Thank you to tweedygal for being the best beta, friend, and partner in crime, and to brainslave68 for the gorgeous banner.
Challenge #16: In the Diner
The More Things Change The booths were purple now, but the menu hadn’t changed. The customers were still rude, and the tips still sucked. But the shifts felt longer, and the trays were harder to lift. Carl was after her to retire again, and the unfamiliar faces in the post-Babylon crowd made retirement look good.
But then a scared young boy would come in, and Debbie thought of Sunshine and Jason Kemp. So she did what she did best. She made him laugh and gave him a hot meal on the house. Then she hoped he’d come again, ready to listen to her advice.

Thank you *so* much to my beta and drabble buddy, jule1122, to besamislabios for keeping me sane (sort of) and to brianslave68 for the lovely banner *AND* icons.
16. In the Diner Clarity Brian swatted angrily at the fake cobwebs festooning the diner.
"Christ, Deb. It's barely October. Can't you spare us the tacky decor a little longer?"
"Put a sock in it, Scrooge." Deb said as she breezed past.
"Wrong holiday. And if you put up Christmas decorations before December, I'm never coming back."
"Promises, promises," Deb groused.
Brian grimaced as he tasted his coffee and wondered again why he kept coming back to the diner.
Just then, Justin emerged from the back, tying his apron. He walked by Brian's booth and flashed him a smile.
Brian's coffee suddenly tasted much better.
