ATTENTION IJ QAF_DRABBLES MEMBERS
You may be noticing that all of the old LJ qaf_drabbles community entries suddenly appeared on your IJ Flist. This is because qaf_drabbles entries were just migrated from LJ to IJ. Sorry, but there was no way around the Flist spammage. If you want to get rid of it, follow these steps:

1. From the IJ menu bar, select “My Friends” and then select “Edit Friends”.
2. Under the Your Friends section, find qaf_drabbles and check the “Delete” box. (You are removing the comm. from your Flist, NOT leaving the comm.)
3. Click the “Save Changes” button.
4. Return to your Flist and you should see that all of the migrated qaf_drabbles entries no longer show.
5. In a few days, or whenever you’ve had a chance to go through your IJ friends list and are done viewing recent entries, you can re-friend qaf_drabbles so that new entries start appearing on your flist.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please let me know if you have any questions.

~Ellen

Not a problem for me. Qaf_drabbles is my happy place and I don't mind having them all on my FL!

I'm confused.

Does this mean that all the LJ comms will be totally closed on LJ? Couldn't they just be taken over by people willing to let them be open on LJ if the old mods don't want to do it anymore? Or are both the LJ and the IJ comms to exist next to each other? What am I missing?

Yes, they'll be closed on LJ and I'm perfectly willing to continue to maintain the communities, they'll simply be hosted through a different server.

Yeah, I get that. And I didn't want to imply you weren't willing to keep maintaining them, I was just wondering. It's such a pity to just leave eighteen months of work and fun in the comments behind. Especially since there are lots of people on LJ who are not really willing to just change journals. Couldn't there be a way to have both? At least with the comms that are less high maintenance? Coffeeclub doesn't really need anything besides deleting off-topic posts, does it? And I'm sure there would be people willing to take over drabbles at LJ, too. (I understand that you don't want it to be me, but still. And if people post fic to their journals, and bjfc and bjficnet, most of them would probably be fine to post their drabbles at both LJ and IJ...)

It just seems so sad to abandon it all *shrug*

We're not deleting the LJ comms. They are still there, and all the posts and the comments will still be accessible to everyone who is a member.

And I'm sure there would be people willing to take over drabbles at LJ,

Umm, with all due respect, how would you feel if someone told you you should hand over maintainership of your communities?

We don't want to do that. We are perfectly happy to keep maintaining them. All we are doing is moving them to a different server - a server which allows us to not have to keep them flocked.

On LJ you MUST have a journal and become a member of the communities. Here, you don't have to have one at all, you can comment anonymously. I think that's actually much fairer. We're not telling anyone to change journals. In fact, we are open to everyone here, journal or not.

We don't want to do that. Fair enough. And I wasn't exactly telling you to hand it over, I was asking if your concentrating on IJ while still leaving the LJ comms open was an option (especially since most of your comms had more maintainers than bunny and you anyway, so it wouldn't have to be like you were giving them away to strangers). But I get it that you are attached to them, of course you are. The two of you came up with the ideas and you certainly invested more time and work into them than anybody else. And I do appreciate that very much, even if you won't believe it.

One last question before I shut up: are you sure the anonymous comments are enabled automatically for this comm? Because I tried it earlier and it wouldn't let me (just for the record, I was too lazy to log in, not too chicken to want to post anonymously). Of course, it could just be my techtardness, or my not being familiar with IJ, but it was still waiting for a login. *shrug* If it really works though, you're right, that would be an advantage to LJ.

We ARE still leaving the LJ comms open. Open in terms of they're there and you can still access them if you're a member. If you mean open in terms of open to new posting, no. That's not an option. It would be too confusing.

As for our co-maintainers, they were all consulted and asked for their opinion before any of this stuff changed over. Bunny and I aren't dictators.

Yes, you can comment anonymously at retread, coffeeclub etc. If you couldn't do it at drabbles that's probably because it's not set up and ready to go yet. We will make an announcement when that happens.

Everyone on Lj can still follow along with all of these comms from LJ. Bunny has left simple instructions for adding them to your flist. We couldn't have made it any easier. You don't even need to come to IJ to see the comm's posts. It's so not a big deal unless people make it one.

And I must add, of course, that I'm only speaking on behalf of the comms I mod with Bunny. I have no idea what she and Faile are doing with drabbles, or the other comms I don't mod.

Hi there :)

I just found this over here and was trying to check out the memories for the old challenges, but when I clicked on my entry it said I wasn't authorized to do that. Is that a temporary thing or are they meant to be only seen by members or friends of the community? Because I'm neither so far. Just wondering ;)

WELCOME! If you want to check out the old drabbles, you need to join to be a member (I don't think there's a way to unlock them unless we go in and do each one by hand) BUT on the plus side, none of our new drabbles will be locked!

So, if you just click to join on the profile pade, you'll be all set. :)
