I didn't know about the QaF fandom, InsaneJournal, or even LiveJournal until a week ago. I found you because I was searching for QaF forums, having just started watching the series again and having no one to talk to about it. I first started watching from the pilot in 2002 on SBS tv here in Australia. Believe it or not I haven't seen season 5 or quite a bit of 4. So I have a lot to look forward to!

I posted in my journal about what it was like discovering QaF for the first time. I have also been posting in the Gusmas drabble challenge and having an absolute ball. This is such a wonderful place to be, I really have come home.

I'm a mum of a 1 year old and a 6 year old. I also study part time, but the semester's finished, which is why it was time to indulge in the warmth and colour of my darling boys and girls who I'd missed all these years.

Today I just finished watching season 1 for the 2nd time in my life. It was weird watching the last episode again. I couldn't look forward to prom because I knew what would happen. When I saw it the first time I was truly a mess (I was pregnant too, and it was like I was walking around with a few layers of skin missing, emotionally speaking). I couldn't stop crying. The way they played it, I thought Justin had died. Then I had to wait for ages until they screened the next season. It's so different coming to it knowing how it turns out. Less upsetting, but also less deep an experience.

Anyway, it's a joy to meet you all. Another lengthy post! Thank God for the constraints imposed by drabbles ^_^~

I am a new fan of Queer as Folk, just finished watching the show about two months ago. (I watched it in less than two weeks.) I had heard about it before, of course, but paid it no mind. I caught the UK version on hulu which made me want to watch the US version. Luckily my friend had the first two seasons on dvd. And well, once I started watching, I couldn't stop until I finished it all. I am so glad the fandom for this show is still so huge and vibrant, for newcomers like me!
Like most people I'm a long time user of livejournal, but came here because all of the amazing qaf resoucres. This is the first fandom I have gotten into fanfic with, and I've become addicted to it! I'm really looking forward to being involved in this fandom as I've been a lurker most of the time, but I am trying to change that!

Hi guys! *Waves*

Well. Like most people, I've been a long time LJ-er while I only joined IJ yesterday. I've only been a fan of the show for a couple of months but I'm very dedicated to it. I actually joined for Queer as Folk when I noticed most of the comms had moved over here and therefore my IJ is decidated only to QAF, I'm glad to have a nice space where I can just put all my love (obsessive of course) for B/J without scaring anybody. It was also easier for me to track IJ posts if I had one myself. So I would appreciate any help or guidance the lovely qaf_comingout members have for me.

About my person? I'm 20 years old, I'm from London, England and a soon to be English Literature student (lifetime goal of teacherdom.) I have a dog call Jack and way too much interest in slash.

The thing I love about Queer as Folk is how normal it is. It's just life as it is but just with gay men and women. I'm fond of saying love is love. There isn't another word for it. One of my more brilliant thoughts I'd admit but the sentiment is the same. Brian and Justin, Ben and Michael, all the characters, have these great relationships I'm so glad to see many of the writers are still portraying now as I'm just starting out. (I'm a writer and graphics maker.)

So, yeah. I'm just really glad to be here. :)

Officially Delurking!

Hi everyone!

My name’s Rachel. I’ve been lurking around insanejournal for a while, and I finally decided to get involved. *throws confetti*

I’ve been a Queer As Folk fan since December 2006. I found the show at random through a clip of Brian and Justin on YouTube. I can even tell you what clip it was. It was from episode 213 (which I can't find a clip of on YouTube. -_-) where they're driving down the road, discussing Justin's tuition, and Brian offers to pay, but Justin refuses. There was something about their chemistry that hooked me and made me want to know more about their story. I found the series online and within a month I had watched every episode.

Little did I know when I saw that first clip that I would end up loving every single character in the show, relating to each of them in a different way. The show’s themes and characters resonated with me so profoundly. It came at a very good time, as I had just moved away from home and had no friends, no family, and was feeling very lonely and depressed. The show inspired me in so many ways, especially in the way I live my life. Emmett’s constant positive attitude really helped me to look in the bright side of life. Brian inspired me to live my life with no apologies, and to not make excuses for doing what I think is right. Justin influenced me to follow my dreams regardless of what others say or think about it (I definitely took his example when I decided on my major in college. My dad is not exactly thrilled with my choice, let me tell you). And Ted has one of my favorite quotes in the entire series, possibly my favorite of all time:

“Since God is Love and God doesn’t make mistakes, then you must be exactly the way He wants you to be. The way He intended you to be. And that goes for every person, every planet, every mountain, every grain of sand, every song, every tear… and every faggot. We’re all His. And He loves us all.”

I'm a spiritual person, and that definitely describes my beliefs perfectly.

So, I haven’t been particularly involved in the fandom until now (aside from reading lots of fic), but I really want that to change! There are so many awesome people in the QAF fandom, and I really want to get to know you all! I am also an amateur writer, and I would like to try my hand at fan fiction. I make some icons occasionally, and I definitely want to try to do more. Eventually I may try making fan videos as well. I’m also going to start going crazy with the commenting. Basically I want to do a little bit of everything! No more lurking for me!

Thanks for reading my rambling mess of a post, and thanks for being so awesome. ;D I love friends, so please feel free to add me! And if you have any tips or suggestions for someone not new to the show, but new to the fandom, I would love to hear them.

I've been around 6 months so I probably don't get to clain newby status, so I'll just have to claim ignorant status.

I know that some of you have 5000 available userpics. I have even seen an icon about it(digging the irony of an icon about having icons :D). But, how does one get 5000 userpics?

I am starting to freak out a little, cause I have almost filled my 500 userpics available and I haven't even started to upload the Clusterf*ck goodies!!! I really don't want to have to delete any of my wonderful, tiny bits o'love!

So, if you have them and/or know how I can get them, please let me know! Thanks as always for any help!

Coming out the closet

Hello everyone! Ive only just joined IJ..i know *shockhorror* but ive been over at LJ for about 5 years and never really looked at IJ before..until i got into the QAF fandom and then there was just no way i could be involved and not be here!!So here i am..

Well i should start with how long ive been in the fandom huh? I would say its been about..4-5 long, plentyful and fantastic...weeks LOL. Yes i got into the fandom very late. But never fear there is a reason for this. What's the reason you ask? Well. Im English. LOL. Yes, i was raised on a diet of Stuart and Vince and Nathan, not in fact our dear Brian, Micheal and Justin. I started watching the UK version when i was about...12 i think LOL..My mother is a very open parent and she always let me watch just about anything mainly because she wanted me to know the truth about things rather than thinking something compleatly stupid and untrue. But yes, fabulous Pittsburgh was Magical Manchester for me until not long ago..although i have actully been to Cannal street where they filmed the english version and its nice..they really have a cannal with a boat and everything lol..

Anyway, how i really got into the REAL version (as i like to call it) of QAF is not that brilliant lol. I was in HMV and looking through the sale DVD'S when i spotted the title 'Queer as folk'. Remembering mine and my mothers love of the tv show i picked it up and came face to face with the beauty that is Brian Kinney and Justin Taylor. And were they ever beautiful. I debated for a while whether i should buy the set but really i was already sold. They were just too HOT. So i brought them back home and started my pleasureable viewing. Drooled over Brian half naked and dripping wet. Was fasinated by teh sexing between Brian and Justin, got pissed off at alot of people, smiled and squeed like a good fangirl when Justin and Brian dance, cried when Justin was hurt. Felt my heart crack over Brian screaming over Justin. Felt my heart compleatly shatter at Brain covered in blood and crying....typical reaction to the first season then LOL.

After that it was the second season, then i had to have the third season and i went through much the same thing with those as well. Strangely enough even though the show finished 4 years ago about we only just got season 4 on dvd and season 5 isn't out till September..trust me im dying inside LOL.

Anyway this is getting kind of long so ill end with ICONS!!! I just posted a few over at my journal...I decided to make some 'Tweak says' icons because..well because that thing is awsome and there is a hell of a lot of QAF love up there! Please feel free to take them...and also feel free to freind me! Im brand new here and i dont have any freinds lol, im a loner all on my tod! So i would appreciate the company!!

Time to Celebrate July Anniversaries!!

It was four years ago we all fell in love with talking cars, first admired handcuff adaptable art tables and had a sudden craving for candied walnuts. Yes, on July 6th 2005, the icon inspiring fandom classic, Framed by Plumsuede was posted. Hmmm...think it's time to read that again.

On July 6th 2006 qaf_challenges was started. It's still going strong bringing us great challenges such as the Icon Challenge and the Challenge in Two Parts, just to name a couple. I can hardly wait for this month's Clusterfuck Challenge. *happy squee*

And last year, qaf_icons had the brilliantly inspired theme "Bare Chests." Don't we all need more bare chested icons? *grin*

Setting up a header in your journal

maxymama asked in her journal how to set up a header, and outlander hinted that it would make a good post for this community.
So I'll just try and give the explanation a shot with my profound half-knowledge.

Beware: the following instructions are from the perspective of a free account user. But there are probably one or two things that will work the same in paid accounts.

- Go to your user info page -> choose "Customize journal"

- on the "Basics" tab choose "S2"

- go to the "Custom options" tab

- in the "Margin size on the top of the content area" box you put the height of your header in pixels, for example "300px" (without the quotation marks)
--> this should shift your journal content down so the background picture is visible at the top

- put the URL of your image in the "Background image URL" box

- choose "Don't repeat" in the "Background image repeat"

- put the "Background image scrolling" on "Fixed"

- Save changes (at the bottom of the site)

There could be a problem with the visibility of the background picture if you use the navigation strip. It may cover the top of your picture.

To avoid that you can just forget everything I said before and instead put the following in the
custom stylesheet box at the end of the page:

body {
margin-top: 300px !important;
background-image: url("http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/example.png") !important;
background-repeat: no-repeat !important;
background-position: center 46px !important;
}

Explanation:
margin-top: use the height of the header pic in pixels
background-position: defines the position of the background picture; you can use "left" or "right" or "center"; the number is used to shift the picture down, so it won't be covered by the navigation strip.

Hope this was in any way helpful and didn't just manage to confuse everyone. lol

I just wanted to say hello in this community and to IJ in general. I'm an old fandom fan I guess you could say. I joined in June of '03 and I haven't really stopped since then. I remember hearing all about Qaf when it first came out but I was watching so much TV at the time I couldn't keep up. Not to mention, I was in high school so I had a lot of homework and that's where my concentration was going.

So, when I graduated from high school in the summer of '03, the first thing I did was marathon Qaf and I was immediately hooked. Like I said, I've never really let go. As far as my online life is concerned, it revolves around 2003-2005. Sure, I'm interested in other television shows now, catching up on old ones that I've never seen, and involved in other side projects. But nothing is going to mean more to me than the Queer as Folk community.

I remember during what I like to call "The Great Schism" when people separated from LJ to IJ, I stayed with LJ because that's where my fandom friends were. I've known them since '03 and though they had moved on and I hadn't, I still liked being part of their lives in that type of a forum. I hadn't participated in fandom in a major way then. I had written and done some icons but I hadn't fought with anyone or had disagreements with anyone. I just wanted to stay somewhere I felt comfortable and that is and always will be LJ for me.

That said, I'm probably more involved now in fandom more than I have ever been which is strange since the show ended four years ago this August. I write, I icon, I travel, I go to events, etc. and it'd be nice to know people who are still interested in those things. That's why I'm over here now and writing this already ridiculously long introduction (apologies).

just can't get enough

Hello, all you QAF fans.

I've been around since 2003. I first heard about QAF from one of my assistant managers. She tried to pursuade me for a year to watch. Kicking and screaming she sat me down on a weekend with part of season one. By the end of the weekend I was through the first season and hell bent on seeing season two. From there I subscribed to Showtime so I could get my fix. Season three had started.

OMG - then I googled Queer As Folk for fun and found fan fic. My world turned upside down. I've been an avid reader since that time. I joined Live Journal in 03 and was hooked on the BJ/LJ. Of course, I've been hooked ever since.

I've found the reasons are different for everyone. Mine is I just fell in love with the idea of Brian and Justin. I loved them together. No, I didn't personally want to DO either of them. However, I certainly loved them doing each other. That is my kink. LOVE them.

For me, I loved them both. There is a soft spot in my heart for them. I can't seem to shake it.

LJ doesn't seem to fuel my fire anymore. People have moved on. Me, apparently not. The lovely alicesprings tells me I will be welcome here. *crosses fingers*

I'm not a writer. I do love graphics. I knew nothing about photoshop before this fandom. Ah, what it's given to me is priceless.

Now, I'll shut up.

Mood Theme don't showing

I have a problem.
I downloaded the Qaf Mood Theme with the animated pics yesterday.
It's the Mood Theme firehead30 uses.
I followed all the steps to install it, but the stupid pics don't show, just empty squares. I checked it four times, but I can't find the problem.
I asked paddies, she thinks that maybe something with the html could be wrong.
I have no fucking clue. Is anybody able to help me?

You know that bar some people's layouts have at the top of the page?

It shows an icon and buttons for logging out or going to your friends page?
I think it says Powered by Insane Journal.

Anywho...How do you add that to your layout?
Heck, is it something you can add to your layout?

Keep in mind, this is me. So any instructions would have to be in short sentences with tiny little words. Stick drawings on cocktail napkins may help. Techno isn't always my friend.

It's like finding the show all over again!

Hello everyone!

I just found my way here today, and after only a few hours of "lurking," have decided to just say hi. It seems like a friendly bunch - not to mention so, so talented! I've really enjoyed all the icons and fiction and everything else I've found here so far.

A few things about me (most are QaF-related):
-I found QaF on TV in season 5, through one of my coworkers.
-Now, I've seen all the episodes about 4,000 times each!
-I am a high school English teacher.
-I love to beta. I've done it in another fandom, and I truly enjoy it.
-I am Canadian.
-I am a Justin-lover.

I'm sure there's a lot more, but I don't want to bore anyone! If you have any questions, just ask. I'm going to start working on friending people; Everyone should feel free to friend me, as well!

On June 24th of 2001 episode 122 aired for the first time. Ack! Imagine the stress of watching the Prom episode and then having to wait all those months for more...

On June 5th of 2006 this fandom got hooked with no hope of rehabilitation over at qaf_crackfic.

In 2006 xie_xie_xie posted the first chapter of Plans which would later become the first story in her Only Time series. Now is a great time for a reread ~~(you must be living under a rock if you haven't read this one yet)~~ because rumor has it that she is going to post a new chapter soon!

In 2007 youbetterwiseup posted this popular discussion over at qaf_coffeeclub. When qaf_coffeeclub made the move over to IJ the wonderful testdog65 took the time to move all the old discussions over... but they haven't gotten much love here. Lets all breath some new life into this old conversation!

HI! So I *finally* decided to de-lurk, after bumming around on here for quite a while.

I was first introduced to QAF in 2005; with episodes 113 and 114, so that was interesting. I've been reading fic and everything else on here and BJFic for a few months. I have also started to try to write some fic.

Outing myself further: I’m an analytical control freak like Brian, with big bold painterly splashes of Justin’s wide‑open heart.

After several comments that people couldn’t access my IJ, I changed the setting to “registered users.” That was a big step for me, having come from MySpace and the eternal spammage.

I’ve been exploring the QAF Fandom since I created my IJ on May 8. I recognized a lot of the same people all over the fandom which made me more comfortable, but it took a lot of time and I have a bunch of other interests. So, how does everyone manage to participate in fandom and still maintain balance?

I noticed that a lot of QAF communities cross over, which is confusing as hell! It’s hard to figure out what to post where. And there’s all these rules. *doing the Ted vibrating head thing from episode 118*

“Friending” in fandom is radically different than friends on MySpace. There, I have a tiny handful of friends I keep up with at least weekly and we are connected by personal interests, not fandom. What exactly is involved in mutually “friending” someone here? I noticed in my explorations that some people have 50 or more mutual friends!

What’s the protocol/etiquette for responding to comments to something you’ve posted? It seems rude to me not to respond to each person; it’s like someone at work saying “hello” to you in the hall and ignoring them. However, I don’t usually have 20 people at work say hello to me every day! Do you know what I mean? *feels silly*

I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by this QAF fandom stuff. I really do want to keep this fun, as I’ve been advised by several people.

I'm as breathless and excited as Justin and Brian on the night they met under the streetlamp.

I am one of those women who discovered QAF after the show ended.

Over a year ago, I connected with my Friend at MySpace and we've been discussing QAF ever since. I've never discussed QAF with anyone else until now, although my Friend's been encouraging me to do so. My Friend no longer has a reliable Internet connection because of financial reasons. I'm just now wading into the deep waters of QAF fandom.

My Friend introduced me to QAF fanfic. First, fanfic dating back to writers who experienced QAF as it was happening. Then, to writers who (like me) experienced QAF after the series ended. There's such an amazing difference!

Anyhow, I don't have "hate" for any of The Folk. I love all of them, but they all get on my nerves at times! Just like RL.

For me, the QAF family is the closest thing I've ever seen to my RL.

Lj vs IJ username and comm name coding update

LJ has changed the url for the little icons that come before the usernames.

This change made the little trick for coding LJ vs IJ usernames that I had posted here no longer work correctly. However, I have now updated that post, correcting the codes to a default way that accounts for the newer urls, and should continue to work well even if they make other small changes in the future.

Long story short, if you want to know how to make LJ usernames appear as LJ usernames on IJ and vice versa, or how to use a nickname but have it direct properly, you can learn how in this post.

So, if you saved that page in the past for later use, you'll need to resave it now that it's been corrected if you want to have the functional code. And if you've already used it, older posts need to be edited accordingly in order to appear properly.

Because we live to celebrate the love, we're starting a new tradition of Anniversary Posts here at qaf_comingout!

Every month we will celebrate members of our fandom who came out to play with us in that month. Or at least the anniversaries of those who tell us theirs. *grin* We'll also be reminding you of some of the other wonderful fandom history that took place in that month.

On the 17th of May flamencanyc is celebrating her QaF Fandom 4 year anniversary!

Be sure to take a minute to tell her how happy we are she came out to play!

In 2005 LJ's triciaqaf posted her story Painting. The first chapter went up on May 3rd and she spent the rest of the month posting continuations... but you don't have to wait all month, you can read it now! Yum!

In 2006 qaf_bunnies was created over at LJ and then later moved over here to IJ. Who wants to tackle the first bunny ever posted in the community? On May 18th happier_bunny posted this: I want Brian and Justin to have nasty neighbors who are mean to Brian and Justin has to comfort him. (comfort should probably = blowjob and shower sex). It's never too late to write for a bunny!

In 2007 bj_action held a challenge for the theme Frottage with Hair Play. The fics went up on May 26th, check out the results HERE!

In 2008 flamencanyc opened qaf_alumsnnews. May is a busy month for flamencanyc!

Also in 2008 xie_xie_xie took to qaf_coffeeclub to discuss The big beautiful dick of Brian Kinney. You can't miss this one!
