THE DISAPPEARANCE OF BRIAN'S COWRY SHELL BRACELET
I’ve watched Ep. 304 a gazillion times (especially the end), read a gazillion “old” and “new” discussions of same and I still don’t get it.

The MySpace Friend I made several years ago said Brian untied the bracelet and flung it across the loft, but I don’t see it.

Maybe the bracelet was contaminated by Brian’s nephew, but why would same nephew find the bracelet in a box?

I just don’t get it.

huh? He didn't find it in a box. He found it on the nightstand while Brian was taking a shower.

Regardless, WHY did the bracelet disappear after this episode? What was the significance?

As mentioned by others, it was likely a producer/cast decision, but from an IC point of view, I would think having your molestation-accusing nephew walking around wearing your most treasured piece of jewelry would seriously taint it.

I don't think it was seen again after the end of 304.

After Justin walks away, Brian removes the bracelet and as he swings his arm forward at the very end (almost out of frame) he tosses the bracelet.

Adios Cowry Shell Bracelet!

Which arm do you think he tosses it with? His right hand looks empty, but he is swinging both and it is hard to see if his left hand is empty.

That's exactly what My Friend said, but I don't see it. Regardless, WHY did the bracelet disappear after this episode? What was the significance?

I don't think Brian untied the bracelet. Why would he? He just touched it and then walked away swinging his arms.

That's what I see, but the bracelet disappeared after this episode. Why would he indeed?

I had never heard the "untying the bracelet and throwing it" theory until your post. I thought, like _alicesprings, that Brian was just fiddling with it and then swung his arms. I just rewatched those last frames three times and can't tell. I can see that Brian is fiddling with it for quite a long time, though since it is shown in slow-motion, that might not actually be true. Using NFL replay rules, if there isn't clear and definite evidence, the ruling on the field stands, so I have to go with my initial assessment that Brian didn't untie and then throw away his bracelet.

I am not sure why Brian stopped wearing it. One theory I've read, but discounted, is that it was Gale's own bracelet and when fans started copying him, he stopped wearing it.

I head that it was Gale's bracelet, and when it started showing up for sale, he stopped. Didn't we just discuss this like a couple weeks ago? I need to find that post.

Someone else said they thought he took it off and tossed it. I think we need someone to cap it and zoom in.

I read that it was Gale's bracelet and the producers liked it, so he wore it as Brian. But then by season 2/3 a lot of the extras (such as in Babylon scenes) were wearing similar bracelets on set, and that wasn't good so they either got rid of it or Gale did. I think it was probably Gale who decided to stop wearing it after everyone else started to.

I am not sure why Brian stopped wearing it.

Me, either! That's why I started this discussion.

Well, I could be mistaken (it wouldn't be the first time-lol) but when he swings his right arm back like 3 seconds before the scene cuts out, I really think there is something dangling from his right hand. Does he toss it? Hard to tell, but I'm pretty sure he did remove it, and I'd swear it's never seen again.

Why?? I'm not sure and I'd only be guessing at this point. The obvious, bad memories from the whole John nightmare, how could he enjoy it anymore after that mess?? Pure speculation, Justin returning it to him and tying it on his wrist symbolizes some sort of committment thing to him that's not real since Justin is still with Ian, so Brian rejects it. More likely, it means nothing and it was Gale's bracelet and he stopped wearing it, end of story. IDK.

Ditto.

Also, like, can you imagine Brian saying, No, Justin. Don't put it on me. I am not going to wear it again, b/c it reminds me of somehting bad. No. It's private. But I explain what I think the purpose of the moment was for the audience down below.

He unties it -- though I never see him toss it. The significance of that: it shows the audience he had no intention of wearing it again after the horrific incident it would become symbolic of, yet he let Justin tie it onto him. This is a way to convey his feelings for Justin and to establish the momentum of them coming back together.

How did you form the opinion Brian unties the bracelet? (That question is worded oddly so I could be clear in my meaning.) His back is to the camera, so we can't really tell what he is doing.

This is a way to convey his feelings for Justin and to establish the momentum of them coming back together.

I like this thought.
