Why A Jeep?
Hello! I am brand new here on IJ and to this community. I didn't know I could join this community right away and now I'm nervous but also excited! If I do things wrong, please have patience and any advice will be appreciated.

I've been reading fanfic at http://morpheusqaf.com and it has a lot of Brian's history. It describes how he came to love designer clothes and furnishings and other fine things.

But I don't understand why Brian would choose the black Jeep as his car! I have one Friend I have discussed this with, but I'd really love to hear what other people think.

Thank you for having this community for people to talk!

I don't know if that was ever explained, but Brian's tall, and Jeep Wranglers are a bit up off the ground, depending on the year. Plus, it's American made, and IIRC, C/L stated that Brian would want an American car, especially a muscle car, which explains the hideously fugly Corvette. there was a scene in 109, I think, when Brian went to the ealership to get a new Jeep, and the dealer told him that he didn't want that, that "fags drive them." Which explains him driving it through the showroom window.

OMG!! You did not...er...not just call the fuckmobile fugly!!! (okay, technically you said hideously fugly, but...WTF!!!)

That has got to be the baddest, hottest, teh shit-iest car EVER!!!

I hate Corvettes. They're rolling pieces of shit. When I was a kid, the motto was "Wrap your ass in fiberglass, buy a Vette today!"

The only good model was the 1958/59 model.

I see Brian in not a American car, but a foreign sports car, like a Ferrari or Lamboghini.

"Wrap your ass in fiberglass, buy a Vette today!" ROFLMAO That is freaking hilarious!

See, I had an uncle who was like "Joe Cool" and he had a Corvette, must have been a late sixties/early seventies, looked exactly like Brian's and my cousins, brother, and me all thought it was the tuffest thing we had ever seen. It's still the epitomy of cool for me. I freaking orgasmicly LOVE Brian's vette, but I have to admit that with his love of Italian food, furniture and clothes, I am kinda surprised that Brian doesn't have an Italian car, too!

With Brian's dad being tight with the union guys, I imagine "buy American," at least for cars, is because of his upbringing.

That was an awesome scene! I have often wondered if the fact that Brian Kinney, stud of Liberty Avenue, had one was the reason that it was known that fags drove them.

The first comment to my first post ever and I just got distracted from my original post. I also think the Vette was hideously fugly! Not the car itself, but the colors.

I prefer a classic Camaro myself.

I didn't know what it meant either, so thanks for asking! Also... I should probably have known what it meant since apparently I included it in the QAF Acronym Dictionary... I just went to add it and it was already there :P

There is a jeep mentioned in the original Highschool Musical, the song that was rewritten for QAF for Justin's dance routine. I always wondered if the producers had that song in their minds even before the show. I doubt it, but it would be cool, huh?

Lol! Cute misspeak.

The original was "High School Confidential," a classic lesbian lust tune, and the car in the song was a 'candy pink Cadillac' not a Jeep.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsJHtzdvfKg

The Jeep was only mentioned in the version written for QaF.

LOL at Highschool Musical. Doh to the lyrics. I remember it was about a girl, from another girl's perspective, but I thought she had a jeep. Boo to my brain.

I've heard Gale say in interviews that he thought Brian should have been driving a cooler car than a Jeep.

You should also check out [info]qaf_comingout, the comm that directs new members of the fandom to all the good QaF stuff on IJ and helps with IJ logistics.

I really liked the Jeep! My thought (which I should have put in my original post) is that Brian bought the Jeep for cheap shortly after he graduated college.

Thank you for guiding me to qaf_comingout. I think I'm going to have a busy night.

Yeah, Brian is not the great outdoorsman one normally pictures hitting the open roads in a Jeep. But, didn't he say in Ep 101 that it was a company car? Maybe he didn't have a choice.

Anyway, Hi! Nice to meet you! If you're really into the fanfics, check out [info]qaf_retread for the best of the best. [info]happier_bunny is always recommending great stuff and the archive there is just chock full of awesomeness!

Tx! Nice to meet you, too! Oh, shit, I'll be up all night checking out your recommendations.

Brian did say it was a company car, but I just never bought that. I've been working for big corporations for over 25 years and they never give you a Jeep. I always thought Brian was just being a smart-ass about the "company car" thingee.

Hi and welcome! I think the jeep is another borrowing from the UK series. Stuart drove a jeep, and the scene at the dealership is very close to the scene in the UK original. I've been trying to find the interview where Gale says he doesn't think Brian would drive a jeep. I know I've heard it before.

Jeep-like cars for urban gay men and lesbians who would never set a toe or a tire "off road" were a real fad for a while... they were (and actually, still are) ubiquitous all over San Francisco's gay neighborhoods. I am fairly sure Brian was just getting the best, top of the line version of what was coolest for his crowd... and then later, he chose something quirky and less stereotypical, because he was growing up. :)

Then why'd he get that POS, Xie??? WHY???? It hurts my sensibilities!!!!

I didn't know that about the Jeep, though. When the dealer says that, I was like, "I like it, and I'm not gay!"

Srly, he should have gotten a 58 Vette. They're worth more, and are real collector's cars. I've never seen that particular Vette (71, right?) in a Road & Track Classic Car Calendar, and I used to get those every year.

Oh, splain the lesbian/pickup truck thing, will you? Also makes no sense.

I never think of Brian as doing anything to "go along with the crowd." If anything, I think of him giving the finger to all convention--gay and straight.

Yes, that's his image, and one he cultivates, but the key to his depth as a character is that he's more, and other, than his image much of the time.

I can't say anything about the Jeep or the Corvette. I don't know which car would fit Brian.

But what do you think about Mickey's metallic-gold ridiculous, ugly car?? This thing looks like a Barbie car.
It looks like something a spoiled, rich, bored girl would get for her sweet 16'th birthday from daddy.

Hi and welcome! I just read your profile and if this is true - I'm just hoping to connect with other people who endlessly love QAF and never tire of watching it and discussing it - then you've certainly come to the right place!

I recommend checking out QAF Coming Out first as it'll give you some information about the QAF fandom here on IJ as well as some info on how IJ works.

It would take forever for me to type them all up here, but if you click on my username and look at the left side of my journal you can see a list of a whole bunch of the IJ asylums that we play in. Join one, join ten, join them all!

You'll probably find the QAF Acronym Dictionary helpful too.

Again, welcome! Don't be scared :)

PS - I just tried to post this comment on your first entry in your journal, but IJ told me I couldn't because you've got it set up so only friends can leave comments. I highly recommend changing the setting. Chatting back and forth in comments is the best way to get to know everyone!

Hi and welcome!

I always wondered about Brian's jeep too. Down here in the dirty south, jeeps are pretty commonplace as far as SUV-type vehicles go. In fact, I always associate jeeps with girls because so many of my girl friends have them!

But reading these comments, I guess it was cool to the writers. *shrugs*

You can friend me if you want. No worries if you're not comfortable with that.
