No Good (fic)
An attempt to channel some of this...fucking crying that started and I can't stop.
It was no good being a fucking hanyou if you couldn't even save someone. He didn't care to hear that he was still young, still small. He was strong, and skilled, even his brother admitted it. He was fast and he had learned not to let pain bar his way.
But when the fight was over, he sobbed with the broken body in his arms. He barely knew the kid. But he'd liked him, he'd liked his frank way of speaking, and his honest eyes. He'd liked the way he helped his blind aunt and the way he treated his younger siblings. He'd liked the way he worked hard with a smile on his face.
He'd sure liked the way he kissed.
He cursed the gift of his father's fang. It was supposed to protect humans, slay demons. His brother was a hundred miles away, too far to come with his fang and resurrect the boy. It would be too late by the time Sesshoumaru arrived. Sure, his sword could kill demons...but the attackers had been human.
If he couldn't save one small human...just one...what good was he?
He could feel Daddy's warmth against his back but he wasn't ready to let go of the body just yet. There were others dead...they had left the village before the bandit attack, and returned when they both felt something very wrong behind them. Others needed his father's services, his father's skills. The living needed tending as well as the dead. But Daddy would not even look at them until his child was okay.
He was being selfish. But he couldn't stop the tears, or the howl in his chest.
"It's not fair. It's not FAIR!!" He clutched the body to him and turned his face into his father's neck. Strong arms cradled him, cradled the broken, bleeding body in his own arms unflinchingly.
"I know Baby. I know."
