1. All players must be 17 or older due to the nature of some of the posts and plots. There will be some NC-17 content, and we don't want to get in trouble.
2. Please, respect the other players and their characters. This should go without saying. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but please use tact. If there's an OOC issue that you and another mun cannot seem to figure out, please contact the mods.
3. The game started in the first weeks of October, 1998. This is over a year after the Final Battle took place. The year will be 1998 starting on October 5, 2008. The calender will be in real time, which means anything posted on (for example) October 5, 2008 will be dated in game as October 1, 1998.
4. (a) Please use canon characters (lesser known ones are fine so long as they have been mentioned somewhere in canon), unless you decide that your character has a child (which should be mod approved before being brought into the game). On that note, pregnancy is allowed, but be aware that pregnancy will last the entire nine months. This means that you must think it through before deciding on a child.
(b) NPCs are allowed at this time, so long as they are children or 'supporting players' (ie. there are no huge plotlines involving them). Family members or co-workers who come in on occasion are fine; but anyone who would take part in several major plots, please discuss the possibility of making them a regular character with the mods.
(c) Characters who are 'dead' in canon up through DH, but have a plausible way of actually being alive, are allowed with mod approval. Sirius Black is an example of this. The only ones we will not consider is Bellatrix Lestrange. Sorry, Bellatrix fans. We hate her that much. Also, the Potters. We think they deserve to be gone, but not forgotten.
(d) Please stay IC with your character! Despite what fanon slashers say, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy are not in love! While we encourage character development, please take time with it.
(e) Mary Sue/Gary Stu pups, or any pups with no canon ties, are not allowed.
5. Any major storylines should be approved by the mods, and please don't bring another player's characters into a plot without their permission.
6. Please post in some capacity (thread, owl and/or journal) as often as possible. Once every two weeks would be good, but if you can post more, please do. We know that life can get hectic (trust us on that!), so if you need more time, let the mods know and we'll work with you. The purpose of this is to keep the game and its plots moving, and to not tie up any characters that are not being played that someone else may want. If your pup is just not 'speaking' to you for whatever reason for an extended period of time, contact the mods so that we can again try and work with you. If we haven't heard from you for at least a month (even just dropping us an email or OOC post saying that you're still around but are busy), the mods will contact you. If we don't hear back from you within 72 hours, your character(s) may be made available for others to play.
7. Any journal entry your character makes that isn't marked "private" can be read by anyone. If the entry is for someone specific, please mark it as "private to (name(s) of character(s) the entry is meant for)".
8. Please, try and use lj-cuts whenever possible.
9. All threads and owls are to be posted at the main community, journal entries in your character's personal journal, and out of character posts in the OOC community. All threads will be written in the third person, owls and journals in first person.
10. Please, no net speak. Use proper grammar and punctuation, and spell check your posts if necessary.
11. Threads should be marked as follows:
Who: (What characters are in the thread)
Where: (where the thread takes place)
When: (the date and time that the thread is happening)
Rating: (based on what happens in the thread. Any warnings should be posted here as well, so those who may be squicked by certain activities (examples include incest, bdsm, fetishes etc.) can avoid the thread if necessary. Please make sure warnings are posted on any threads that may contain such things.)
12. F-lock every single time you post, whether it's in one of the asylums or in your journal.
13. This game is both slash and het friendly. If you are not a fan of one of those genres, please use discretion in what posts you read. We are also pretty open minded about quite a few things as well. Again, if something posted is not your cup of tea, please skip over it. This is why we ask that warnings be put on threads that need them.
14. You can NPC a canon family member who is not currently being played in the game, but please keep that to a minimum and only when necessary. This way, if the character is applied for in the future, they won't have to tailor how they play their pup to any pre-set standards.
For example, let's say that nobody is currently playing Ron Weasley. If your character says he was present during a thread taking place at a family gathering at the Burrow and Ron interacts through light conversation at the dinner table, that is fine. However, giving Ron a specific career, girlfriend etc. is not allowed.
Also, no "god modding" (ad libbing) other's characters, unless you and the other character's mun have plotted and agreed to something very specific regarding a current in game plot.
16. At the moment, there is no limit on how many characters you can play, but only if you feel you can honestly handle the number you have and are taking on.
17. Right now, the game focuses on the post-war reconstruction efforts, rebuilding Diagon Alley, characters recovering from injuries and starting their lives over. Remember that this game is for character development. There will, however, be plots that the mods will post, i.e. someone "accidentally" messes up a spell or potion that will effect certain characters, or will effect the entire game. We will never force plot on you. When we are planning a plot out, we will make a post and will give you the opportunity to take place in it. If you would rather not, you are not obligated.
So-called 'lighter' threads where your pups let loose and have fun, or spend quality time with their friends, family and significant others, are not only part of the game, but absolutely encouraged.
However, if you have a plot idea that would fit into the game, by all means let us know so we can discuss it and possibly get something going! We would love to have your input.
18. When you join the game, please make an introductory post in the OOC community. Also, if you take on a second (or third, or more) character, make an OOC post for that character as well.
The friends button will be updated by the mods each time a new character is introduced, so please make sure you pups have updated friends lists as well.
19. Excessive drama will not be tolerated. If this happens, you will first get a warning from the mods. If it persists, you will be asked to leave the game. Yes, sometimes there are issues, but we are all adults here and we all should be able to figure things out without resorting to that kind of behaviour. The reason for this rule is because we're all here to play and have fun, not to be stressed out over the game.
20. Interact! Please! Even if you don't think you'd like a character, give it a go anyway and see what happens. Just have fun. This isn't a serious thing, RPing, so don't take it too seriously. Remember, this is happy fun time! Not stressful, I want to break a face time.
