Who: “Team” 3. Junpei, Haruto, Shigeo, Yori, Hideaki, Eri
What: The first night in Yggdrassil
When: Beginning around 9:00 pm on April 2, 2011
Where: Unknown location among the branches of Yggdrassil
The arcade had been a fine diversion from his worries. Weird shared dreams about that little long-nosed creep, a whole senior year of high school coming up all over again, a new dorm and only one person in the whole town he knew...throwing in some coins and blasting some digital bad guys to kingdom come was just the kind of distraction Junpei needed.
Unfortunately, it had proven entirely TOO good a distraction, and now he found himself sprinting down the sidewalk toward the dorm. The last thing he needed was to get caught violating curfew on his first night here! Man, it's a good thing they close at nine...I can still make it back if I really book!
The arcade wasn't too far from the high school dorms, so he knew which way to go to get there, even without having to glance at his map. He could already see the building in the distance, so all he had to do was keep his eyes on it...
...unfortunately this meant taking his eyes off his surroundings. He didn't notice the tree in his path until the last possible moment, and he only had a fleeting moment to be thankful nobody would be around to see him slam face-first into it--
Yggdrassil
--only...he didn't. Suddenly there was simply no ground beneath his feet, and Junpei found himself spinning, tumbling through the air, end-over-end, centrifugal force the only thing keeping his hat on before he had the presence of mind to slap a hand over it. That saved his hat from tumbling over the edge of the giant tree branch at lea--
Giant tree branch?!
Pushing himself up on his hands and knees, from his rather rough face-first landing, Junpei's wide eyes darted this way and that. Giant tree. Leaves, foliage, a few twigs that looked like smaller trees lining what was almost a perfectly neat road-like path toward the center...
"What...the...hell." There was a familiar prickling at the back of his neck, too. A feeling that sent a shiver up his spine, a feeling he hadn't experienced in...
In over a year, now. His hand darted inside his jacket and closed around the grip of his Evoker, which shored up his spine and his resolve. "Maaan...sometimes I really hate it when Yukari is right. Well...time to bust up some Shadows, then. Nowhere to go but forward, I guess." Talking as much to hear a familiar voice, to bolster his own confidence, as anything, Junpei slid the Evoker out of its hidden holster and started walking toward the distant foliage that seemed to mark the tree's heart.
