Who: Osamu, open What: Convenience Store Where: Convenience Store, the dodgy end of town. When: April 2nd, a little after 2pm. Why: ???
Osamu tried, as he always did with varying success, not to pay attention to the scorch marks on the outer wall near the covered window (why did they even replace the glass when they had the window covered to keep the contents of the store hidden from the street?) as he left his questionable workplace. It wasn't like he could afford to quit right now anyway. The other place wouldn't take him on fulltime while he was studying. Maybe it wouldn't happen again. The boss had paid up this time, at least. It'd be okay for at least another month. Saturday's morning shift wasn't so bad, at least. It was the night shifts that got him scared.
It was kind of unfair that the rest of the town got to dream about midgets with noses and he had to have nightmares about being burned alive in a porn store. He missed feeling safe.
It had taken him a year but he was starting to notice the judgemental stares of others that happenned every time he left work. As if they somehow didn't expect a boy in his early 20s to be there. It was upsetting, frustrating. There weren't even words for it and even when there were words for it he could never remember them. The whole city's existance was pretty regrettable.
But he was here because he chose to be and that made all the difference. And now he had a friend, or at least something like that. And every time he slept in or drank that 22nd cup of coffee to get through Mimimi season one in one sitting or tried to eat cup ramen without a fork and failed and scorched himself with the soup was a choice he was making for himself. And that made it all worth it.
Somewhere amoung all that useless introspection he'd found himself at the convenience store. He entered through the automatic doors, ignoring the things that would involve real cooking and checking to see if cup ramen was on sale here. If not it was... saturday? He could only remember the days of the week recently by what job he'd been to but he was pretty sure. So probably still early enough to make a trip to Junes, they usually had it cheap and it might still be early enough to get free samples.
