After the Battle (Prompt #21)
Title: After the Battle
Fandom: Dragonball Z
Characters/Pairing: Bardock/Toma
Rating: PG-13 for character death and implications of sex
Word Count: 171
Challenge/Prompt: #21 - scar
Summary: The deepest scar wasn't on his face, it was in his heart. Spoilers for the special.

He could have taken the scar on his face without much trouble, and in fact, it had graced his face for some time. However, the scar was deeper than a flesh scar this time; shaking hands gingerly reached for the dead man on the ground. Toma, who had been there for him since they were whelps. Toma, with whom he'd shared many a wild night in a cave away from the battlefield. Toma, who died in his arms and had told him with his dying words that Freeza had been the one to set this whole massacre up.

"Forgive me, for I was too late." Bardock gave a soft, pained apology, running the thumb of his left hand across the scar on his jaw and the thumb of his right hand across one of the wounds on Toma's face.

He wanted to cry, but held back the tears. A warrior never cries, not even when his heart is shattered by the gripping reality and pain of death. Nay. He gets revenge.
