Like A Circle (Murder by Numbers, PG-13, prompt 47) Title: Like a Circle Fandom:Murder by Numbers Characters/Pairing: Cassie Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 179 Challenge/Prompt: 47 - spiral Summary: There's the stairs and then the running and then the falling
There's the stairs and then the running and then the falling. Cassie's dreams are entirely predictable, she finds, and it irritates her, sometimes even in the dream, through her fear, that the same thing happens. Over and over.
The voices, and then the sound of the ocean and then the laughter. Cassie freezes with terror, and she can't see his face but she can see the knife, see the glint and flex of the light reflecting on the blade.
The blood, and then the pain and the stairs, the hard edges knocking against her knees, bruising, as she crawls, upward and around and around and around, clutching the wound on her chest, her fingers sticky and dark.
She can hear his boots, his footsteps, following behind her, mocking and sneering and she can't stand up, she's too weak, she can't.
In real life, in the daylight, she fought, she never let go, she survived.
In the dream, at night, she jumps, she falls. Sweet relief, an end to all hurt and she always wakes up smiling.
