008 • Tis the Season

Hey Everyone!

The holiday spirit is picking up in Papillon. It's snowing more, and there's ice as well. It's getting to the point where it may inconvenience some characters or even be dangerous in some instances. Decorations and holiday music are becoming more prevalent and there are Santas (and their equivalents from non-human cultures) in various stores. Some of the decorations are not as harmless as others though. Mistletoe will make people feel compelled to kiss, even if they don't particularly like one another. The effect is short-lived, but lasts long enough to potentially create some awkwardness. Please expect more effects in the coming days.

Thank you.

006 • Collaborative plotting

Hello all! The mods here, with a few quick announcements and a question!

• First up is the current gamewide plot taking place. It will be ending tonight at midnight EST, so if you have any last minute amnesia-fueled shennanigans you want to do, now's the time to get them up! Of course, if you're working on a thread/log or simply haven't had a chance to get one up yet, you can always post one of those later with a note it's backdated. However as per the network goes, and 'real time' in the game, all characters will regain their memories tonight at the stroke of midnight.

• Secondly, in lieu of this week being Thanksgiving, we have decided not to start up a new plot until next weekend. We haven't decided on exactly which plot we're going to do yet (more on that in a minute) but whatever happens, it won't start until Saturday, November 26th so as to allow those of us who are going to visit family, etc. to enjoy the holiday without worrying about missing out on fun new plot stuff.

• And finally, a question! While we can certainly be creative and come up with plots for the game, we also know that you guys are fantastic and equally creative. So! We would like to hear your ideas for what sort of plots you'd like to see in the future here at Project Papillon. Big or small, heavy-handed/dramatic or lighthearted, even crack!tastic, we're looking for whatever ideas you can come up with. We aren't promising we'll use all of them except that there's every chance we possibly will but we would definitely love to do a bit of brainstorming/idea swapping with the game as a whole and see what happens.

So, if you would respond to this post with any ideas you might have, we would love to hear from you. Also, if others respond with ideas you really like or can think of ways to expand on, feel free to reply to those as well. Basically consider this a big, giant brainstorming type of post that we'll use as a sort of one-stop shop for future gamewide plots. Or something.

We hope to hear from you all!

002 • Work, Work, Work

Hey Everyone!

So the Mods here with a quick note about employment in the city of Papillon. Characters do not choose their starting occupations in the city, though you as players will obviously decide where your characters work. Instead the beings in charge of Papillon decide for the them. This afternoon, characters will get a message on their PDAs giving them their assigned occupations and telling them that they start work on Monday. Eventually, they can change their job if they so choose, and they do not actually have to go to work if they choose not to, but keep in mind everything in this city (minus housing and education) costs money. Though they have five hundred dollars to start, and might be able to stretch that long enough to find a different job, it would eventually run out.

If you still need to choose an occupation for your characters, please do so here. If you want your character to work in a category we don't have listed, just let us know so we can get it added.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing how the characters react to this.

001 • Welcome to [info]projectpapillon!

Hello, everyone!

Welcome to Project Papillon. As many of you know, this game has existed in some form or another since early 2010. We created Papillon as a place for people to play AU versions of characters. Everyone has seen characters on shows or in books or in movies, and thought of ways their lives could have gone differently. Papillon is an opportunity to explore those ideas.

The game is now officially open, so characters can now post in the network and threading comms. All characters will wake up in a white room with a note waiting for them. Feel free to have your characters be confused, as these aren't exactly normal, everyday circumstances (unless they are, in which case we guess they'd probably be pretty chill). We'll be introducing the first plot shortly, but we are going to give you guys a few days just to get your characters settled in the city.
