Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Nathan Petrelli and Carol Danvers
WHERE: A restaurant and then somewhere else.
WHEN: 6th December 2008
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In progress

Nathan was uncharacteristically nervous, but he wasn’t letting it show. Dinner had gone extremely well, he had taken Carol to a little restaurant that they had first gone to on their second or third date, but it had become a regular haunt of theirs since then. He poured the last bit of wine into her glass and smiled. He had talked to his children about this, and then swore them all to secrecy about it; if he was honest he was actually rather surprised that the three of them had managed it. Now he just had to pull it off.

Proposals like this should be special, but they should also be private just in case they turned you down. Not that he was expecting Carol to turn him down, Nathan was just aware of the possibility. He planned to wine and dine her a little first before going somewhere a little more private to actually pop the question. At least, that’s the plan.

“What would you like for dessert?” He asked, smiling charmingly.

Carol was always impressed by how charming Nathan could be. When they'd first met, she'd noticed it and put it off as a politician playing a part, but she'd found that he genuinely was that charming. With her anyway. She smiled as he refilled her wine and took a sip, considering his question. It was nice to get out for the evening, just the two of them. They were both so busy with their respective jobs that they didn't get out as often as they might have liked. But she wasn't bothered. She understood demanding jobs.

"Why don't we split something," she suggested after a moment, glancing over the dessert menu. She doubted she could finish a whole dessert, and every so often she liked stereotypical coupley things. It made her feel just a bit more normal. And normal was good.

"That sounds like a good idea," Nathan smiled. He divided his time between Washington and New York, which meant that he didn't see Carol, or the rest of his family, as much as he would have liked. He knew that it was unlikely to change, but he still wanted to make their relationship something a little more permanent and solid. "You can pick whatever you want."

"Alright," Carol smiled, waiting until the waiter came over and ordering tiramisu and coffee. "So," she said, conversationally, "how are things in Washington? I imagine it's hectic with everyone in transition." She didn't spend nearly as much time there as she used to, now that she was working for Torchwood, but she was still there at least once a week. She tried to time it for when Nathan was there, so that they had a little more time together.

"It's a little insane at the moment," Nathan said. "Especially with the current economic situation and there were the attacks in Mumbai that caused a bit of a stir." Regardless of all the problems that went along with transition, Nathan was actually looking forward to working with the new presidential administration and with the new members of Congress.

"How's your work?"

"I can only imagine," Carol said, shaking her head. "The world is a bit of a mess right now." That was an understatement, no question, but it was really the only way to put it. Unless you were Tony, in which case quite a few four letter words might have been used.

"Work is keeping me busy," she admitted. "Homeland Security moreso than Torchwood right now, but that's to be expected. Of course, Torchwood is the more interesting work." What with alien invasions and the like.
