Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:barbara gordon, bruce wayne, richard grayson, the joker

WHO: The Joker, Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon (and starring Bruce Wayne as THE GODDAMN BATMAN)
WHERE: Gingerbread Bakery...>_>
WHEN: Monday Afternoon...let's go with that
RATING: TBD
STATUS: incomplete

Barbara Gordon was only slightly nervous about the events of the day. True she had a bit of a safety net with her, tucked safely in her ear, but that didn't mean that she was safe. She was trying to make a deal with a psycho after all.

"What's taking him so long," she said softly, pacing around the bakery and peering out the front window every so often. "This is...maddening," she added, sighing a bit too loudly without thinking about the mic she was wired up to. Bruce was going to have a fit when he got an ear full of that.

But madness was simply what The Joker did best.

Time had been slow while he had been holed up with Helena, and he was beginning to wonder why it was each of them had been going along with the exact patterns he believed they would. Each one was simply too predictable. One after the other, all they did was panic. And when one person panics, it starts to spread- like a sickly sweet cancer eating the worry-warts from the inside-out.

Joker wasn't a worry-wart. No, not by a long shot. When Dick had shown up for the aforementioned task of "shopping", he knew this night would be simple, cut-short, and if anything: hilarious. The Batman was always nothing short of a hilarity, but when he had friends, the joke was certainly an obvious one.

The bell jingled as he pushed open the door. With a tilt of his head, he watched the girl curiously. He had seen her on more than one occasion. But all those gun-shots, all those idiots at the end- they all just had a tendency to blur together.

"I'm looking for a pie..."

Dick didn't want to be doing this, the minute he saw her through the window. This wasn't what he'd signed up for, as far as he knew. He hadn't been expecting to have to see Barbara face to face, like this . . . This wasn't what he had been expecting. Swallowing heavily, Dick contemplated backing out, but he knew that would never be allowed. He sighed and pulled the hood of his black hoodie up, obscuring his in hopes of hiding behind it. That was the only hope he really had right then, of keeping his identity secret. He couldn't let them know.

Not like this.

Batman was high on a rooftop two blocks away, high-powered bat-binoculars zoomed in on the bakery. He had the earpiece that connected to the mic Barbara was wearing inserted into his ear beneath his cowl, and he could hear her perfectly. He was just getting ready to tell her to calm down when she suddenly sighed loudly, right in his ear.

He let out a hiss and tried to slap the earpiece out of his ear but, of course, the cowl prevented him from doing that. He might've let out a string of curses that he'd picked up during his time spent training with R'as Al Ghul. "Just. . .be careful." he growled lowly.

He didn't like the looks of that hooded figure following Joker into the bakery. Since when did the Clown have a partner?

Babs made a mental note at his warning--both that he was right, and way too overprotective. But her attention turned quickly when she saw Joker walk into the shop. She cocked her eyebrow at him, letting her arms slowly cross over her chest. "Funny, I thought this was a private affair," she said slowly, trying hard to mask the annoyance in her voice. Well...at least she had the upper hand here, having an ace up her sleeve.

She studied the pair quickly, scanning them for weapons the best she could without physically touching them. Ugh, she didn't trust him one damn bit, why had she agreed to this. "Let's get down to business, shall we?"

"See, the way I recall it, you were the one that was asked to come alone, Red. I on the other hand, have brought my new friend along for the ride. He could learn a thing or two from the head of the class," He whispered his last statement harshly, flipping a nearby stand that once held a colorful array of cookies shaped like little gingerbread people, on its back. It landed with a loud clatter onto the opposing side of the counter-top as he glanced back over to Barbara.

He wet his lips impatiently, cocking his head ever-so slightly. "Straight to the point. I like that in a girl. But first-" The Joker took a brief sidestep, pulling on Dick's arm. "I want you two to get acquainted! Y'see, I can never go into these things without knowing who it is we're all dealing with. So, why don't you two say hello!"

As much as Dick didn't want to admit it, Joker had a point there. She'd been the one who had been specified to be alone . . . And even then, she had to have known that the Joker wasn't stupid enough to follow the rules. Though he'd only been in the other man's presence for a short while, he had definitely learned that much. There was no such thing as playing by the rules, when it came to the Joker, and he doubted there ever would be, unless those rules were his own. The harsh statement brought a scowl to Dick's hidden face, less than amused at the antics. So apparently he was being taught a lesson? Was that why he was here now?

The hand on his arm brought him out of his annoyed reverie, and without a thought he tried to pull back, removing his arm from the Joker's hold. Oh no, no way was he being pulled into this now . . . What was the fucker trying to do, get him exposed?

Batman frowned deeply, watching the scene unfold through his binoculars. He was keeping an eye on the Joker, but most of his attention was focused on the hooded accomplice. It seemed as though the accomplice was trying to resist the Joker, which was an odd gesture. Apparently the accomplice didn't want to reveal his identity, and that just made Batman even more nervous.

"Something's not right." he muttered into the microphone, keeping his voice low. "I don't like this."

Barbara sighed impatiently, trying to be a bit quieter about it this time around. "I don't--" she was about to say she didn't have time to waste on going through the motions with him, but...his rules. Right. She turned to the hooded figure and gave one of the most fake smiles she'd ever managed. "Hello, so nice to meet you." Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she looked back over at the Joker. "Happy?"
